"Yes, sir, we should reach the homeworld in 121 days," replied the ship's AI Navigation system.

Joseph sat down next to his daughter, Sarah.

"Papa, what's that asteroid belt?"

"Oh, it surrounds the entire old homeworld's solar system because of The Great Destruction."

"The Great Destruction?"

"Yes, Sarah, didn't you learn this in history class?"

"Um, I sort of wasn't paying attention." She blushed.

"Uh-huh." Joseph shook his head." So anyways, ages ago, there was a notorious Martian-based leader who used powerful weapons to attack other colonies on different planets, so all the people united to stop him."

"But no one can live there anymore?"

"Well, yes, as his final maneuver, he triggered a superweapon."

"Why, Papa?"

"Because, to him, his ideology was more important than life itself."

"But why did he trigger the superweapon?"

"Oh, that's because he exhausted all his other weapons. So he had nothing to lose."

"One person with so much power?"

"Indeed. It's why we no longer choose one political leader—to prevent autocracy. Now, we always elect a diverse council of many."
