《aiAI: Love's Logic》Chapter 6: First for Everything I

Man, this is a hell of a job.

I thought as we passed by some green hills and fields leaving the marble-white building behind. I had the windows down and took in the cool morning air as it hit my face and hair.

"You guys got to do this every day, huh? Must've been nice."

I said but it seemed my partner was more intent on playing the silent card for the rest of our trip.

Alright, suit yourself.

I thought as we continued down the road and I enjoyed the cool air once again when she decided to perk up.

"Stay focused. You should start reading the file on our client for today. I don't need you wasting time asking unnecessary questions when we get there."

"Right, I'll get to it."

I opened up the glove box and pulled out a folder with the names Ms. Diana Daniels and Mr. Caine Connors written on it, the same ones at the very start of our schedule.

Right so "A young couple who were match made around seven weeks ago, a 19-year-old blonde with a ponytail and the male a 20-year-old with jet black hair a slight stubble. According to previous calls made by Ms. Daniels, Mr. Connor was visiting and interacting with another female on a social media site. Mr. Connor vehemently denies these allegations and said that he does not remember performing any such actions."

This looks like your ordinary lover's quarrel alright, guess it wasn't gonna be so bad after all.

"Are the problems always like this?"

"Why, already doubting your ability?"

"It's not that. I mean this is such a small issue; don't you think we don't really need to meddle in this one?"

"What does it matter to you; it seems you were rather upfront that you don't care for the relationships we're trying to create back in your interview."

"Us meddling in it rather than letting them do it is exactly why I'm so against it, and besides, just answer my question before you get too angry and crash us into a tree."

"Sigh. Fine, it is usually a little more complicated, but my guess is that Alexandre pulled a few strings and gave us an easier job for your first client."

"Already abusing his power, he'll make a great exec indeed."

I joked but seeing as he not only had to deal with his promotion and getting me oriented with the job, I was surprised he had the time to rearrange these things in my favor as well.

No wonder he got promoted. The kid's got a heart and a good head on his shoulders.

I thought as I glanced over at his once partner.

"What?"

"Nothing, don't mind me."

I placed my gaze back outside.

Truly a soldier, that kid.

We finally made it past the large fields and entered a more suburban area. We went through the gate with no issue since it seemed they had been expecting us and got to the neighborhood proper.

Whew, this place is picturesque, isn't it, like a backdrop to a stereotypical 80s slasher flick.

Admittedly it was a nice neighborhood. The small houses all bear a creamy white color with a variety of colored roofs, from maroon reds to lavender purples. Each had a spacious backyard with either trimmed plants or gardens. We drove past more of the houses and the various residents on their morning jogs until we reached the house of our very first client.

Right, you once marketed to the bigwigs back then, if you could sell them an idea and make them invest in it, a couple of teenagers having social media drama is gonna be nothing.

I assured myself before I heard the door open and a stern voice.

"Remember, you're meant to observe what you can about their emotions and interactions, that also means you're the one who greets and communicates with them, so don't forget to be formal but friendly."

She told me for once without too much contempt in her voice.

"Right, right. I do the talking since you're antisocial, gotcha."

"And here I was trying to be nice. I shouldn't have spared the thought."

We continued our banter as I got outside, and both of us made our way to the door of the house. We walked through the path, and the backyard was relatively empty, say for a few flowers and the unmowed grass.

Ding

I rang the doorbell and began to call out.

"Hello? Ms. Daniels and Mr. Connor? We're surveyors from aiAI industries. We're here to aid in your current dilemma however we can."

I read from the notes that Alexandre had given me.

"Alright, I'm coming!"

I heard a female voice shout out. The door opened, and out came a blonde lady in casual attire, a loose shirt with what I presume is an indie band she probably hasn't heard a single song from, and straight blue pants.

Yep, that's probably her.

"Ah, good morning Ms.Daniels, is Mr.Connor here as well?"

"Not yet, I called him, and he'll be on his way soon, please come in."

I nodded and gave a quick look at Myla before going in with her. The house was rather spacious, more than enough to accommodate four people. It wasn't too heavily decorated with only a few family pictures here and there, and as we sat down in the living room and Ms. Daniels left to make drinks. The place was relatively tidy, but some stuff felt as though it was missing. Things like a random cupboard near the TV or empty space on the bookshelf.

"It seems her partner took his belongings before leaving," Myla whispered.

"Yeah, I can see that. What looks like a console and maybe a few books or decorations, must've been relatively recently then."

We both pondered and looked around before she had returned with iced teas in hand.

"Right here you go let me just get some sna-" She was cut off by the ring of the doorbell.

"Oh, that must be him. Excuse me for a second."

"Please take your time."

She left for the front door, and I took the chance to look at the speaking cards I had with me.

"Awfully polite, aren't we?"

"Of course, I am when the person I'm talking to isn't a jerk who disregards my opinions and treats me like trash."

"Then, by all means, keep being rude to me."

I would've made a comeback, but Ms. Daniels had returned with her boyfriend, and both of them sat down.

"Right, let's begin our counseling, shall we?"

I gave them both a bright smile, Ms. Daniels gave me an awkward smile, and Mr. Connor offered an exasperated look as Myla hurriedly began writing on her clipboard.

I really am gonna have to pull both of our weights, aren't I?
