《Dreamland》Chapter 103 – Daylight!

Getting out of the cavern was not as difficult as I thought. Except for a couple at the entry, I met no other werewolves on the way out, and after a bloody and short fight, I was finally out and saw the sky.

It was daylight. I fell to my knees, looking at the blue sky with white clouds. Two suns were hovering above me, one behind some clouds, the other a bit lower, bigger but closer to the horizon.

Oh fuck, yes, I am Andy, a dark elf who does not remember having seen the sky in her life. I remembered I should not look straight at the sun as it is terrible for my eyes. Where does that knowledge come from?

Interesting how this works. I know I am Cala playing Andy, and yet Andy's feelings were authentic; Andy's feelings were there in my chest.

For Andy, it was a miracle, a dream that came true, and I had to stay there for some time just to enjoy the view.

I had to calm my fast drumming heart and get used to the strong air, the different smells, the noise, and the broad, unrestricted view before I could finally make my first nervous steps inside the forest.

I breathed deep, in and out. This is a forest, like many others I went through as Cala, and yet it was the first time I was in one. To my displeasure, it did not take long until the first beast attacked me, a kind of cat and fox mixture.

I tried to run from it, but it followed me. I flew in a tree just to see with dismay how easily it was following me up there. When I first blasted it with a small firebolt, it screeched, unhappy about it but still continued to climb. I flew down using almost all my mana, and the beast followed me with a graceful jump, almost getting me.

I was able to fetch a spear from my inventory and keep the beast away from me for a while. That, until it made a couple of sudden movements, too fast for me to counter with the spear, and jumped towards my neck.

I just had enough mana for another bolt, and I blasted it directly to the face as it jumped, the bolt sending it flying back. Now, deadly wounded, it tried to run away, but I speared it through and battered it on and on with the spear as a baton. I screamed in anger:

"Fucking, fuck! Are you satisfied now!?"

It was long dead, but I did not stop until I heard some kind of sad meowls from a nearby bush. Another beast to attack me? The meowls ceased when I stopped to listen, but when I was about to leave started again. This did not sound like a big beast, but one can err. When I carefully approached the bush, I discovered three little meowling 'catfoxes' that could barely stand. Their eyes were still closed; they did not open their eyes yet!

Oh, fuck, looks like I just killed their mama.

I sighed, unhappy with the situation. Why did it chase me with that tenacity? Were those little kittens the reason why the beast attacked me? But even if they were her offspring... ok, they were her offspring; they looked too much alike.

Well, that's life. I decided to leave; however, I had to turn back after I made some hundred meters. I sighed again. Fuck me and my soft heart.

I found them fast as the meowls were now louder, and when I got closer, I saw the reason. On one side, a couple of rat-like beasts approached; on the other side, a giant snake.

I hurried up to avoid any further fights. I decided to pick the dead 'catfox' too, put it in my inventory bag, then I put the three kittens in a bag made out of a shirt and left, flying up, observing the approaching snake and rats.

What am I going to do with three kittens? Am I not burdened enough?

It made no sense, and yet I was happy carrying my precious little package with me, seeing the starting fight between the snake and the rats.
