《Nova: Omega》Mixed Signals

The desert was still a brief moment, before the wind carried the subtle notes of a high pitched whine across the yellow sand. Far away from any sign of civilization, a helicopter slowly whirled to life in a recessed flat atop a mesa. Around the edges of this indent was a stone overhang, carved from the rock and supported by concealed beams. The aircraft sat on a wide sled, itself affixed to camouflaged rails leading into an adjacent cave.
Reaper and Virgil stood inside a nearby alcove, sealed from the noise and gathering storm of dust. Reaper stared out a small window, but not focused on the helicopter beyond.
“We really ought to build a second bay,” Reaper said. A muffled sigh escaped their mask.
“Too late for oughts,” Virgil said. “Nothing to do but choose, even if we pick the wrong destination, we can always check the other later and look for clues.”
“That’s fair, but doesn’t tell me which to pick first. I mean, should we go to Eastern, because it was the first signal, or Central, because the signal was much stronger? What do you think, Virgil?”
He was silent for a moment. “We… well, you might say, I have two minds on the question,” Virgil said with a grin. Reaper gave him a flat look. “But I think Central’s our best bet.”
Reaper peered into his eyes. “Are you worried he might be there?” They shifted focus to the rest of his face. “Or are you hoping he will be?”
Virgil laughed. “I don’t think the odds are good either way. We’re not talking about her after all. He’s done a good job staying under the radar.”
“Why is it you always disagree when it’s difficult?” Reaper sighed. “In any case, I was also leaning towards Central. We’ve gotten anomalous readings from Wychwood before, and there was that strange spider you told us about. Tell the crew to plot a course, I’ll brief the team.”
Reaper left the room through a door that lead away from the helicopter. Virgil stepped towards the exit, pausing a moment to look out the window himself. His eyes were equally unfocused.
“I’m sure he’s fine. You worry too much.”

Star wars: Selfish virtue.
''He's broken, are you sure this is a good idea?'' ''It's gonna be alright, it'll become a different timeline. I will supply the power for it myself, won't cost you anything and you can watch it play out with me.'' ''If you're sure dear, the last time we did this it didn't turn out so good for the world though.'' ''It's gonna be fine! ...Probably.'' A man yanked out of our world is put into another one on the whims of beings out of his comprehension or knowledge. Journey with him as he tries for the things that were ever out of his reach in his last life, enjoyment, fulfillment, happiness... and maybe even love. This is my first time writing anything. I'll be taking it as a learning experience, though obviously, I'd hope that people enjoy it. When you find something to criticize, and you will. I at least hope you'll word it in a constructive way so I could remedy and/or learn from it. Enjoy.

Three Hundred Years After The End Of The World
Three hundred years after the end of the world as humanity knew it, the gears of an old plan slowly begin to move again, as a group of self-imposed reincarnators, along with their equally unlikely companions, gather once again to set things right... but does the world they plan to restore need, or even want, their help? Follow the misadventures of an eclectic bunch of genius misfits as they attempt to assemble and fix the world they accidentally devastated in the past. ~~~ Author's note: This is actually the first volume of a novel I wrote nearly a decade ago for the VNDB discussion boards, taking inspiration from the random off-topic ramblings that characterized the golden age of the community. After sevear years and countless rewrites, it is pretty much unrecognizable, but while it is not fit for professional publishing (due to the fact that several fragments and older versions are still out there on various forums and blogs), I decided it is a waste to just let it sit idly on my hard drive forever. As such, I decided to share it somewhere where people could maybe appreciate it, so here it is.
