《I'm the Best Rune Programmer in a New World!》Chapter 35: Justice is Served

It's kind of awkward just waiting here. I'll try to talk to Nate to ease up the social pressure.
"So uh Nate how long have you been the Guard Captain for?"
Nate looked startled at my sudden inquisitiveness but seemed happy at my attempt to start a conversation.
"I've been with the Guard for about 15 years. When I first joined I had been at the bottom of the barrel but through my hard work and dedication I rose the ranks until I eventually became the Guard Captain."
My eyes twinkled in admiration and respect.
Wow. This guy is amazing. Such commitment. It's really inspiring.
"Wow. That's an amazing story!"
"Thanks, Jameson. You don't seem too bad yourself considering you somehow managed to retrieve this book that I have no doubt was extremely hard to get."
"Yeah well, it was. But between you and me please don't arrest me for trespassing."
Nate winked at me.
"I mean legally speaking I should but I trust you'd never trespass so I must've misheard."
I winked back.
"Ah yes sir. I'd never do something like that".
"Good. I'm glad I can count on you to obey the law."
"Could I ask where Scott is being brought? I want to see it for myself if that's not too much to ask."
"Of course! After all, you're the one who got the evidence and you have a personal grudge against him so it makes sense that we'd take you along."
That's great. I want that scum to know that he should've messed with Pepper or anyone else for that matter.
"Speaking of you coming along for the ride concerning Scott Crawford we should head to the holding cells. That's where we keep all the criminals. Scott's crimes have yet to be confirmed but he'll be staying there anyway for questioning and I have no doubt that his misdeeds will be revealed. Especially after we correlate the details in this book with the victims. That'll for sure give us a lot of witnesses."

"Great! Lead the way, Nate!"
"Haha. I like your attitude, Jameson. Oh and remember to call me the Guard Captain in front of others."
"Of course. No problem Captain."
"Good. Then let's head out."
Nate walked out of his office/house and I followed behind him as he lead me to the Guards' holding cells. Thankfully for me, it didn't take that long to get there and we didn't have to take many turns. It was pretty close to the populated areas which I guess made sense since they didn't have to worry about many people trying to break into a prison.
Heh breaking into a prison. That maybe could be a movie or something. The only reason I could see anyone breaking into a prison is to free someone else and criminals don't really seem like the generous type.
As we came to a heavily guarded metal door I looked at Nate.
"This it Captain?"
"Yup."
The guards standing guard on the door both saluted towards the Captain.
"Ah, I've told you guys you don't have to salute."
"We've heard you Captain but you deserve our respect."
"Ah fine. Have you guys seen Stan and some other Guards bring a guy back here?"
"No Captain. I did see Stan and some others heading towards the town square though."
"Good. Me and this guy are going to head inside to wait for them. You guys keep guarding here. You're doing a great job."
"Thank you Captain", they replied.
One of the guards went and opened the door for Nate and me and we stepped inside. I could hear the nonsense rambling of some criminals. Others screamed and some were even crying.
Nate looked toward me with an apologetic look on his face.
"Sorry about the noise pollution. I imagine Stan and the others will be back shortly. Scott must've just been out and not at his house."

Oh jeez. I should've told them he wasn't at his house. Wait... no. That would be admitting to trespassing once again and I don't want to have to make Nate cover for me again. Also, what are the guards gonna think when they find out what I did to Scott's house. I mean the door is blown off its hinges and the alarm systems are disabled. I didn't hurt the guards though and I told them to act normal so I should be fine in that department.
"Ah, it's no problem, Nate."
About a minute later I heard some voices at the door. I recognized one of them as Stan.
They're here. Hopefully, this goes well.
The heavy metal door separating me and the piece of scum known as Scott Crawford swung open. I watched in delight as Scott squirmed and ratted off obscenities as he was roughly thrown into a cell.
Ah, this feels so great. Scott getting locked in a cell.
"Why did you take me here? I did nothing wrong! I'm gonna destroy you when I get out of here."
Nate and I shared a glance and then smirked at Scott.
"You did nothing wrong hmm? Well then why do I have this", Nate said, holding up the book I'd retrieved from Scott's house.
"You! How'd you get that?! Are the guards trespassing now? Shameful!"
"Oh, the guards didn't trespass. I just found it in the town square", I piped in.
"Ridiculous! You found it? What kind of stupid made-up story is that?!"
"Well it doesn't matter if you believe it it's the truth", I said while lying through my teeth.
I mean technically I did find it in the town square since his house is in the town square. Ah, semantics I love you so much. Such a convenient tool.
Nate glanced at me, signaling that he wanted to get a word in, I obliged.
"Scott you realize we can just correlate this book with the victims right? Your sentence may be reduced a bit if you just save us the trouble."
"No way! I'm innocent."
"Uh-huh", said Nate.
This guy really wants to play hardball. Well, I won't let him get away with it. Even if he's somehow declared innocent I know he's guilty. However, there's no way he'll be declared innocent. We have evidence, and witnesses and the Guard Captain himself has a grudge against Scott.
I made sure no one was looking and then I sneakily pricked my finger.
"Captain, could I go in the cell and talk to him?"
"Why?", questioned the Guard Captain.
"I might be able to clear some things up, sir."
"Alright, but be careful. Guards go in with him. Make sure he's not harmed."
"Yes Captain", the guards responded.
A guard unlocked the cell and I went inside followed by the other guards.
I'm gonna speed this thing whole thing up. I want justice now or at least sooner.
I walked toward Scott and put my hand on his shoulder. Opening my Rune Programming interface I quickly whipped together the simple bind program I'd used a lot now. Then I quickly ran the program.
A blank look appeared on Scott's face.
"Hey, Scott. Tell the truth."
"Ok."
"Welp that should do it. Have a nice day folks. Captain", I said, nodding in Nate's direction.
Then I walked out of the door and started heading back to the Fierce Boar inn.
Justice is served.

The Nether Wolf [CURRENTLY ON HIATUS!]
THE AUTHOR IS TAKING SOME TIME OFF.NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SMALL HIATUS MENTIONED LATER ON THE DESCRIPTION. WRITING WILL RESUME LATER THIS MONTH (FEBRUARY). Don't you just hate it when you're walking home from school and you accidentally stumble into another dimension? And now you're stuck in there with no way out, thinking of what to do in this medieval kinda world. Well at least it seems safe...It seems that some people have problem with multiple POV (Point of View) characters and so I'm deciding to alter the description to mention, that sometimes in the story we see the world from other people's point of view than our MC's (Main Character). But there is a MC and the point of view changes are few, except for short point after the season 1 ends. These are mostly done to expand the world and introduce plot elements, nothing more. This story is written in manner of seasons, which aren't marked in the chapter titles and don't really affect your reading experience, but between the seasons are small, 2-7 day hiatuses so the writer can rest and plan.Oh, the website released a mature-content tagging rules, so here: Warning, Mature [17+] Violence, gore and occasional swearing. Mainly put it at 17+ so it doesn't restrict me, but story could be considered as 15+, no way 18+ though.
