《Potestera- Race for Power》Ch 21 Of Combat Classes
Advertisement
I come from Volunterra and so naturally I abide by the Ideal of the “Power of the Will”.
I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I find it a bit annoying that this was my best and only option. I would’ve liked to dabble with Magic, Science, or Divine Powers, but as I said before, it wasn’t meant to be.
I'm not even really sure if a true “Path of Willpower” even exists, and I'm not alone in my scepticism. Many in the world, and even many in Volunterra itself, make fun of the fact that most of the world’s “Warrior class” experts come from here.
The Warrior Combat Class was one of the many known Combat Classes a person would be labeled as by either they themselves, an Organization, the Government, or the Seeier himself.
Your Combat Class was determined by your “Primary Combat Essence”, or the main way you exert combat force and power in battle and war.
Of course only the Seeier is the only one known, to be truly capable of accurately sensing the nature of someone’s combat essence, but many outside the Ranker world found out about the system with which the Seeier labels Experts and started copying and imitating it themselves.
And so nowadays the Seeiers Combat Class System is common knowledge, and has become the universal standard by which experts are labeled.
Although I don't consider myself an expert as of yet, if i tried to join any organization or faction, or use some sort of expert facility, I would probably have to identify myself as a Warrior.
The nature of the “Combat Essence” of a Warrior was that they primarily use the brute and physical force of their bodies, either through a physical combat art, a weapon, or special physical skill or technique.
Even though there are many Legendary Warriors in Potesteras history, it is by far considered one of the weakest and lowest potential Combat Classes.
It was a known fact that the majority of the Warriors in Potestera had no hope of even rising to become an F Rank Ranker. Its qualities and characteristics were just much too inferior to most other combat classes.
Still the Path of the Warrior was the only choice many people had, if to, at the very least, protect themselves in this unforgiving world.
Specially for Volunterras humans known for being of common strength and potential like myself.
To gain the qualifications of being recognized as any other Combat Class was easier said than done, it either took generations of culture or inheritance, insane birth talent, or the fortune to have the resources to have what you want.

It was no coincidence that many Combat Classes were more common in some areas than others.
For a nation obsessed with Magic it is not surprising that most of Potesteras “Magon class” experts, practitioners of the Magic Arts, to come from the United Kingdom of Manafort.
Same goes for Scienimo, they worship science as the end all be all, and so they have the highest concentration of the “Scientist class”, those who pursue knowledge and combat through use of the Scientific Method.
A nation that has always revered Gods and their powers, Mightos, is almost uniquely inhabited by either the “Divine Follower” or “Divine Apostle” class.
I'm not sure what Combat Classes Dominate Enomiles, or the Witherin Empire but i'm sure they have their favorites as well.
Well it is what it is i'm a basic Warrior, but now that i have resigned myself to that I must choose a Path I wish to take, and with which to grow.
Although Combat Classes were the label the masses and most organizations used to recognize experts, to truly start on the road of a Ranker one had to choose a specific path.
Mostly all Combat Classes had a set of many individuals paths one could choose, these were usually called “Job Classes”, they are what dictated your profession and true combat abilities.
For example the “Warrior Class” was no different, it had innumerable roads one could take to reach the peak of the “Warrior Path”. You could be a Knight, a Soldier, a Swordsman, an Archer, a Rider, or a Marksman, and many many more.
I personally had mulled over this subject quite a lot, ever since I tried to join the military. My first choice was to be a Soldier, but now that that’s obviously not an option, i've definitely settled on becoming a Martial Artist.
That was my ultimate goal when I tried to join the defense force, but I had no means to achieve it before. Now though, I have money, this will definitely help push me forward on my path to becoming a Ranker.
Even though with my Sling I could also work on being a Marksman, is that even viable in the long run, I put much more value on hand to hand combat capabilities, at most maybe i'll make it my secondary class.
Yeah the path of a Martial Artist is tough, but as far as Warriors are concerned, it is them and Swordsman who have the best reputation in the Expert world.

Those who have achieved the pinnacle of one these Paths, have become almost household names in Volunterra, and figures of respect in Potestera as a whole.
Marksman, Gunners, and Ballistic Experts are a close third, but many Experts call them cheap, or common foot Soldiers, who are limited by the strength of their weapons and so have a very tainted reputation.
I actually would not have cared about the reputation and would have become a Gunner in a heartbeat, but getting a viable and efficient combat gun was easier said than done.
Even Hunting Firearms the most accessible were insanely expensive, but unfortunately they were also not very battle efficient when it came to battling an Expert. That was common knowledge.
So Martial Artist it is!
The plan seems solid enough, i'm sure I can find a compatible martial arts and master at the Unyielding Will Dojo, not only that i’ll have competitors and rivals with whom I can compare and improve my skill with.
I'm not too familiar with too many “Martial Arts” or Martial Artists for that matter, but from what I have seen they are incredible.
They seem to make you better at fighting in almost every respect, even when it comes to weapon wielding.
The way I see it this all around improvement is the way to go. Maybe i can be like the Legendary “Splitting Hand”, a man who mastered the legendary “Sword Arm Martial Arts” to the peak, and was reputed to be able to destroy whole environments with his bare hands alone.
Now that's the stuff. I wonder what Rank he had. I mean he's still famous even though he's long gone, he must’ve not been weak.
In Potestera it appears those in charge of spreading and promoting certain Rankers even after their deaths, Is the Seeier Organization.
Most people think the Seeier doesn't really care after a Ranker dies, with certain exceptions, only immortalizing you as an Ex-Ranker, but the Seeier Organization, in collaboration with many Ranker Organizations, work with many governments to spread the legend, fame, and secrets of these experts, cementing a Legacy by which they can be remembered by.
No one knows why the Seeier Organization does it but I doubt its of kindness.
Up until I got the Seeier Organization File, I didn't know much about them, only rumors and hearsay. Like that there are ways to get their help in matters related to becoming a Ranker, and even a promoted Combat and Job Class label before you become one.
But I figured you probably had to be really talented to be chosen by them.
I also heard they handle many, some say even the majority, of Ranker item Vendor Stations and Trading Events.
The way I see it getting close to this Organization is definitely on my bucket list for this journey. They probably have way more things they have influence over, it's better to be in the know.
This is my first step to reach my dreams, I have to give it my all.
I don’t know what the “Path of Willpower” is, but the “Path of Guso” is what I know best.
I’ll definitely prove the world wrong. My Path is to defy the life this world wants me to live, and I’ll definitely accomplish it.

“Biras we’ve figured out where the kid lives should we go kill him?”
“No don’t be stupid, we’ll cause a commotion in town and attract unwanted attention, you said he was buying travel items, he’s probably setting off on a journey soon, probably tomorrow, we’ll just follow him, and get him on the Road tomorrow.”
“You ugly bignose are you sure he has a Platinum Coin, I still cant believe a weak looking brat like that could have his hands on such a precious item. Everyone else we robbed coins off of, was at least a semi descent adventurer or warrior.”
“You trash breath imbecile, how dare you question my nose, if said I smelled a Platinum coin on him, than he has a Platinum coin on him. He thought he was being sneaky but nothing can escape my sense of smell.”
“Enough Yose, Noug’s nose has yet to lead us astray, now more than ever we need to have our stuff together, after we take what is ours from this bum kid, that’s when we’ll have to face the real enemy’s Rankers. Only the weak argue amongst themselves now let’s get ready for tomorrow. The rise of our Clans is imminent.”
“Yes Biras!”

The Villain's Double Life
“The Villain’s Double Life as the Hero’s Mentor," “Demon Nobles Want to Live Too: A Hero-Raising Simulator for the Transmigrated Villain," “Just Because I’m a Villain Doesn’t Mean I Want the World to End!” Cyrus Calvide was the second son of an aristocratic lord; haughty, vain and power-hungry. One day, when his ancestral inheritance manifested, he discovered he was able to steal other’s powers and abilities using demonic magic. Taking this as a sign that he was destined to rule over others and become the new king of this land, he poisoned his father, killed his elder brother, and embarked on the path to greatness, taking advantage of a demonic invasion to consolidate power and harvest the abilities of others in a cruel and bloody fashion. Until he was summarily defeated by the Hero as a mid-game boss battle and executed for his crimes, of course. When a dedicated fan of the RPG “Next to Eden” awakened in the body of the cruelest future Count, four years before the beginning of the game, he pledged to live humbly. He would let his brother lead and support the Hero from the shadows to ensure the demon invasion would be defeated and he could enjoy life in peace. Rather, he would have, if he hadn’t gotten the Hero’s mentor killed in a freak monster attack before the Hero’s training could even begin. How was he supposed to live a life of peace and luxury if the Hero couldn’t stop the end of the world!? Donning a mask, Cyrus took up mentoring the Hero himself; how hard could it possibly be? . . . Four years later, the kind jack-of-all-trades hero Leon had become a twisted powerhouse: alienating his party members, clearing enemy encounters in a single magical blast, and coldly ignoring the affections of the girl whose love would have allowed him to clear the final boss. He seemed to have plastered himself to his Master’s side, instead. Cyrus bit back his despair while the hero reached out to grasp his hand. “Please stop ignoring the saint, Leon; you can't beat the Demon King by grinding stats! You need the power of love, remember?” “Don’t worry, Master,” Leon smiled as he traced the lines of Cyrus’s palm gently, almost reverently. “I have all the love I need.” VDL is two parts plot and worldbuilding, one part slow-build gay romance, starring a man far too proud to admit he's in over his head and the hero who loves him. Should be updating weekly.
