《dreadnaught: scifi apocalypses space marine》chapter 6: reload

“ Right, I just leveled up. I better get some type of support skill.”
After looking at the choices he chose personal item storage. It was no larger than a one-foot cube, but he could do something with that. With his physical skills taken care of, he once again switched back to abilities and noticed the list of things a lot larger than the active abilities. There were lists to bonuses to stats, to resistances, to attack buffs, and everything in between, and some things not.
“ Narrow list to those compatible with my soulbound weapons.”
The screen changed and surprised him by listing only four options.
[{ammo reload} (1 point) lvl 1: Automatic generation of ammunition of equipped weapon, using mana. Deals 1/10th the damage a crafted round does. Can be augmented with skills. 1 mana creates 5 rounds. No cooldown.] [{Mana Generator} (1 point) lvl 1: supplement the power supplies of soulbound equipment [Dreadnaught Power Armor V1] and [M134 minigun (energy based attack variant)] to have their own mana generators.]
[{Ammo Synthesize} (1 point) lvl 1: Use mana to create (poor) generic quality ammo for equipped weapons. Does not work on energy based weaponry. 1 mana creates 1 round. No cooldown.]
[{Ammo Depo}(Dreadnaught related skill, dimensional storage type skill required) (2 points) lvl 1: Use excessive regeneration of mana when capped to create an ammo type of choice (poor) in a new ammunition exclusive dimensional pocket. Instead of being a volume based it will be grid based and you can not create ammunition of unknown or mana created versions of known ammunition. 5 mana creates 1 round (1 mana per round if used actively). No cooldown.)]
Seeing the four choices David was originally going to get {Ammo Synthesize} and {Mana Generator, but seeing {Ammo Depo} he knew it was his pick. Not only will it do the job of {Ammo Synthesize} for himself but he could potentially make ammo for other people as well. Depending on how fast his mana regeneration is, he could potentially use his minigun endlessly without even thinking about it. And in the meantime, he could make other people ammo as well.

“ Learn {Ammo Depo}.”
[{Ammo Depo} learned.

After a second he saw the .500 tick up and twenty seconds later he got another one. Deciding to try it out David took the Stargazer from his hip and opened the cylinder. Automatically two freshly, if poorly made, magnum rounds appeared in his gun. Cycling to the first, he closed the cylinder and turned his attention back to Charles.
“ Open channel ‘Charles Roughnecks’”
“ Reinforce that right side. Those Jedi kids look like they want to rush us instead of talking... Tell me at least one of you monkeys chose a medic. If not then someone go ask the civs...”
Thinking he does not need to hear anymore, David closed the channel to look at Rick putting the cover back onto the M134 ammo exhaust port.
“ I got to tell you, John. Whatever happened does not make sense but I just knew that the mana focusing crystal where the laser pointer was must have been off sync. Seems our glorious leader is done as well.”
David chuckled at that and looked at his friends.
“ Still want a suit, Rick? I have a feeling we are going to be making more of them before too long.”
Rick chuckled at that a moment before rubbing the back of his head.
“ Maybe one day, but not right now. What about you John.”
John looked up from his laptop and smiled as he shook his head.
“ I am thinking the same. Now is not our time.”
“ Speaking of time, how good am I?”
“ Strange enough, whatever you did just force kicked up your usual numbers. Right now you are sitting at about 76% which would net you about twenty minutes and change. But my computer is showing two-plus hours now.”

“ Thanks, John for letting me know. Hey Rick, you think the M134 works like a real gun now?”
Rick gave a brief sharp laugh before grabbing the foregrip of the minigun and started handing it to David.
“ Oh, you know it. Even somehow works like a real M-134 now, if you got the ammo. Be warned, energy ammo is crap for damage at only one and it runs twenty rounds a second now instead of the ten we had it at before.”
David first grabs the base grip of the minigun with his right hand before taking the foregrip from Rick on the left. Turning around Rick quickly bolted the imaginary feed to David’s back. The moment it was secure David saw about a dozen rounds drop into the physical ammo reserve for his weapon. On a whim, he fully reloaded his revolver while he was at it. Fully ready to go he decided to give himself one final check over.

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
