《I Died and Got Summoned to Another World as a WHAT?!?!》Ep. 349 Captain's Test Part 3

When I see some larger houses with fences around them I realize this must be where the nobles live. It is also where the various guilds have their buildings, which are two or three stories. Luckily there are only a few such buildings so the adventurer's guild is easy to find.
In total there are three, three story buildings, the blacksmith's guild, the merchant guild, and the adventurer's guild. The two story buildings belong to the other guilds of the town, but I don't pay them much attention. Instead once I identify the adventurer's guild I head straight for it, although the blacksmith's guild does somewhat interest me.
When I walk into the adventurer's guild all the noise instantly stops and I find hundreds of eyes focused on me. Looking around I feel more like I walked into a tavern in the wild west rather than a guild. In fact the main room is set up like a tavern and all the adventurers are the ones staring at me.
If I wasn't wearing a captain's armor and rank insignia I am fairly sure I would have already been attacked. There is a lot of hostility in the gazes directed at me, but that makes sense since adventurers hunt monsters. As I look around I meet all of the most hostile gazes and I do so without flinching.
The hostile adventurers seem surprised that I am not showing any fear of them. After another minute of staring at me they turn away and resume their conversations. Now that I am not the center of attention I look around again, seeing a reception desk I walk over.
Lily says "Welcome to the adventurer's guild! My name is Lily, how can I help you captain?"
"I would like to register to become an adventurer."

Lily says "Um, really? Excuse me, but I'm not sure if a non-human can join the guild. Please wait here, I will ask my superior!"
Lily quickly runs off, as she does I can hear a lot of comments from the adventurers who overheard our conversation. The fact that I want to join the guild quickly spreads through the room along with comments about my guts. There are also a lot of unflattering comments but I choose to ignore those, after about ten minutes Lily returns.
Lily says "So sorry for the wait! The decision has been made that if the army can accept you then so can we."
"Good! Then I would like to register right now if that's possible."
Lily says "Of course! Just fill out this form please."
Luckily the form is simple to fill out using the information I learned from the diary.
Lily says "Okay, with that done we just need to test your ability. Please place your hand on this crystal ball."
Placing my hand on the crystal she places on the counter I can't help but wonder how it is going to react. Considering it is a magic item I am careful not to let my sacred power leak out, who knows what that would do. As soon as I touch it a bright light bursts out of the crystal, blinding me for a second.
Lily says "Oh, wow! That's the strongest reaction I have ever seen! Normally a new adventurer starts at grade F, but with that reaction you will start as a grade C adventurer!"
"Okay, great! Anything else I need to do?"
Lily says "The only thing left to do is pay for your registration and membership. The total will be one gold."

Since one gold is the total money I started with in this world I am guessing that this was planned. I take out my money and place it on the counter before Lily, it is painful but necessary. After taking my money Lily hands me a badge with the adventurer logo on it and a big silver C.
Lily says "Let me officially welcome you to the adventurer's guild!"
"Thank you! Which way is the quest board?"
Lily says "The hall to your right is the quest hall. It contains both the quest boards and the redemption counter."
"Alright, thank you, Lily."
"My pleasure, Captain."
Turning to my right I head for the doorway Lily pointed out to me, walking in I find even more adventurers. Again when I walk in all eyes turn to me, to avoid trouble I pin the badge to my chest as everyone watches. After that everyone pretty much ignores me, so I turn to look at the quest boards.
One entire wall of the hall is lined with seven large boards, all of which have papers pinned up all over them. Each board also has a letter above it, the one closest to me is F and the rest proceed in order with the last one being S. Not wanting to waste any time I head for the C board to take a look at the available quests.
The quests can be separated into three types, kill, collect, and escort, although I instantly ignore the escort quests. Playing various games in my last life left me with a severe hatred of escort quests. Instead of reading the details of over fifty quests I simply glance over all of them until I find the one that pays the most.
Quest: Slay the Ogre. Reward 50 Gold.
I quickly grab the page and head over to the counter and hand the sheet to a very cute female half elf. When I tell her I would like to accept the quest she simply checks my badge and then hands me a new paper after taking the quest sheet. The new paper she hands me contains more details and a rough map showing where the ogre was spotted.
After confirming my acceptance of the quest I take a look at the map, then I head out of town and towards the north-west. As I am walking I glance at the details of the quest, and it turns out there is a bonus if I reclaim an item. Basically if I bring back the ogre's head I get 50 gold, if I also bring back a specific sword as well I get 75 gold.
That is a good start but I figure I will need several hundred gold at least to properly outfit my troops. So as not to waste time, as soon as I am out of sight of the city I take off running. It only takes me about thirty minutes to reach the area shown on the map, now I just have to find the ogre.
