Chapter 24: Invitation to Go Home
The holidays were coming up. Students had the option of going home or staying on campus. Most students chose to go home to spend time with their families and enjoy the coming festivities there, with only a few staying, ensuring campus was as empty as when he had first arrived in Goixi Academy.
His roommates, Ai and Ao were packing up their belongings, preparing for the trip back home. They lived closer to the academy, so they could take the trip by foot, arriving at their destinations within a few days. As for Zen, a journey on foot across a whole province, was unimaginable to him.
There was a knock on their door, “Hey, I’m looking for a Wang Zen.”
Ai and Ao looked at Zen. “I’m Wang Zen.”
“I have a letter for you,” the courier gave Zen a sealed envelope that he opened.
“A letter, you almost never get any letters,” Ai said.
Zen ignored him, reading the letter in excitement. Shibi mimicked his excitement, hopping around on the bed while he opened the letter. Zen understood why Shibi was so excited. For the past five months, the courier had come, bringing Mana Well Pills. Twice in those five months, Zen had grown so annoyed with his progress that he angrily gave them to Shibi, who seemed to love the pills. So to Shibi, the courier represented the chance that it would get more pills but to Zen, he represented a letter that would tell him when the carriage to take him home would arrive.
“Are you alright?” Ao asked.
“Who’s the letter from?” Ai asked.
“My father,” Zen said, crumbling the document up. “He says the family is busy, so I should stay here for the rest of the year.”

“Tough luck, man.” Ai said.
“Yeah, sorry.” Ao said.
Zen ignored them, deciding to gaze up at the ceiling while Shibi rested on his chest. Eventually his roommates left, saying their goodbyes to Zen, who was too sad and angry to acknowledge them.

Zen went into the city, which was still lively, unlike the academy. Shibi sat close to his shoulder, not yet used to the city as they spent most of their times in the academy campus. He was walking leisurely, wondering what he would spend his money on. While walking, he caught a flash of red, that instantly called to him.
Someone was walking through the streets, wearing a long red and black coat with the insignia of a dragon at the back. Zen followed the man, while everyone around him parted, giving him the right of way. The boy tried to get a read on the older man and was taken back by his power. He had to stop for a moment as he was stronger than even the head of the guard back home, Yin Bhiki.
Zen shook the fear from himself and continued to follow the man. The man was heading deeper into the city, towards an area Zen had only heard about, Down Town. While looking for thieves, he followed the man but even here, the man in the red and blue coat and hat was sufficiently feared.
“Of course,” Zen said under his breath. “Bloody Red Dragon Sect.”
Zen made it deeper into the town. He stopped, noticing a familiar face.
“Jun Nee?”
The girl stiffened at the call of her name. She looked up, gasping quietly when she saw Zen before dashing into an alley.
“Jun Nee!” he called. His head kept turning, to the man from the Red Dragon Sect to the alleyway Jun Nee had taken unsure what to do and who to follow. “Shibi, can you follow the man?”

Shibi leapt off his shoulder, moving along the gutters towards the man in red and blue.
“Good Shibi,” he said before following Jun Nee.
She caught him, running in the alleyway.
“Jun Nee!” He called out.
Jun Nee looked back at him, her eyes widening in shock. Qi rose from her, surrounding her body and making her move faster and pull away from Zen. He was shocked at her sudden gain in speed but he let his qi flow from his dantian, and circulating it through his meridians. He made his body speed up by saturating his legs with qi, it was raw and basic method not like Jun Nee’s more sophisticated technique, but it allowed the speed at which she got ahead of him less.
Zen was starting to fear that he would lose her with how much faster she was moving. “Everyones’ faster than me,” Zen said bitterly, “even Jun Nee.”
Zen became aware of someone following him. He could hear sounds behind him, sounds he was not making. He was too afraid to look back, in case he lost sight of Jun Nee. He wondered if the one behind him was the man he had been following but he later thought different. He would know if someone that powerful was following him.
Jun Nee finally sped from his sight, taking a corner. He took the corner and found no one there, unsure if he should carry on or not. He was behind a building with a single door offering as an alternative entrance. He went to inspect it but heard a sound that reminded him he was being followed. Circulating his qi, he prepared to face his pursuer. They got closer and closer and closer…
Until…
Shibi leapt out at him.
“Shibi!” Zen said. “You’re suppose to be following the Red Dragon Sect guy, not me!”
Shibi made unintelligible sounds as answer as it went to his shoulder.
Zen looked at the door. He slowly walked to it, reaching his hand out and grabbing the handle. He turned it and he and Shibi was blasted away. He coughed where he had landed on the ground.
“Shibi, you okay?” Shibi climbed back on his shoulder as he returned to his feet. “I wonder what is so important that they have to put such a powerful protection block on this door.” Zen looked at the front of the building where some people entered. “How about we find out?”

Blood Demon's Retirement
Civil War had raged on the Al-Shan Archipelago for the past four decades, only recently coming to an end with the enthronement of the new Emperor. This is not his story. The Blood Demon, renowned general of said civil war, was tired of all the fighting and politicking that had described the last four decades of her existence. All she really wanted to do now is to go out into the world and see the many lands from her father's stories. Thus she retired, and went and did exactly what she wanted. This is the story of what happens when you toss a (retired) war machine with somewhat lacking common sense into an unsuspecting world at peace. Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. First time posting a story on Royal Road here, hoping you folks will enjoy. Expect: -slow going slice of life with occassional faster paced action -world building -detailed anecdotes on the world, its races, the magic system, and whatnot every now and then Do not expect: -romance, other than maybe some passing mentions -politics, again, barring passing mentions Any comments, reviews, and criticism will be much appreciated. And thank you for reading. ---------------------------- Disclaimer: This story is my original work and only posted on the Royal Road and Scribblehub websites. Hey, what would you do after you got isekai-ed? Me? Look! A cockroach villain has appeared. Let's kill him before he messes things up. Too cruel? That kind of character is always introduced to be killed by the protagonist anyway so I'm doing the world a favor here. Less CO2 emission. It's time to "Go Green" guys, even in another world. See over there, that's a trash young master type right there. What do I do? Endure the initial insults and provocation then dispose of him when no one sees of course. Why make things difficult? Hmm, a pretty girl in peril. Potential love interest there… but no, I have enough problems as it is. At the very least, I won't help her just 'cause she's a female. Same goes for males. What? I support gender equality. Hey, I know the clichés, what did you think I was going to do? Simply let it run its course? Well duh, I'll twist it to my benefit. ************************************************ -This is a power fantasy story. Weak to strong, strong to stronger. -The MC is very genre savvy and a hardcore internet citizen.-English is not my first language, apologies for the imperfections. Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.

A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!

Unknown Fate's End
The ancient's believed that a man's fate or destiny is written already, and that only God or maybe the Gods could change it. If they did change it, it was believed it was for a purpose unknown to that man or for maybe for the ammusement of those higher beings. However, whether that is true or not, one thing is for certain. Changing a man's fate will create a ripple of changes. Join our hero, who whether by luck, by some divine intervention, or by his own choice, separated from the fate that he shared with his fellow earthlings. Watch him struggle in his new world. Watch him grow. Watch him learn. Watch him walk a path oustside what destiny has for him. FYI: The magic concept in this story is high fantasy with involvement of polytheistic religions and demons. There will be a mix of GameLit style writing mixed with traditional magic novel style writing. The plot developement will be slow in the first volume, as I will focus on world building and character building. The main character will not be OP immediately and will develop into one in his own way over time. This series is built less like modern Japanese, Korean, and Chinese webnovels and more like the old school fanstasy novels like DND and Forgotten Realms.
