《The Awakened World》Vol. 2, Ch. 59 : Be not afraid

With the exhaustion of all of today's events, and the knowledge that somebody can be a Remnant, then this man is either Abraham Lincoln, or maybe a lookalike? We do have a few of those here.

Alright, let's just go with the actual Abraham Lincoln.
"I feel like the President is missing something," Rose mutters. Yeah, I might have an idea, and it explains how the Colonel can have an American accent.
"How long have you been resurrected?" I ask to confirm my suspicions. If he's been around for a while, then he might have had enough time to acquire an accent that wouldn't sound suspicious. The only problem would be how fast he taught it to Claus.
He chuckles, "Too long." He sits down and sighs. "I'm a very old soul in a strange world—one only slightly similar to the one I knew. I have no place here, yet…here I am. Slave to another." He mutters the end with a darkening look. I guess being a Remnant that's under control would rub him the wrong way.
"So…did your accent rub off on the Colonel somehow?"
Rose, surprisingly, answers this time. "I would think it has to do something with that ring on his finger." A brass ring with a small crystal resides where she points.
"Ah, yes. That Graves mentioned this was a translator of sorts. Everyone had a noticeable accent, but I was quickly able to pick up others as well. It was…strange to say the least." Claus rubs the finger with a dark expression on his face.
A cough from behind the president grabs our attention to what I think are more Remnants. I don't recognize them, but I think Sophia does, judging by her expression.

"Robin Williams?!" I…don't recognize that name either.
"Who?" Rose asks, just as confused as me.
"He's one of the best actors of all time," Sophia gushes. "Though…he is from centuries past. You might not have heard of him."
"I don't keep up with actors," Rose states.
"Nor do I," I agree with Rose.
"Huh," he says while cracking his neck. "Ah, five hundred years will give you such a crick in the neck." He looks at us with a smile, and only Sophia seems to be in elation.
"I've been dead for longer," Abraham states with a shrug.
"Has it only been five hundred?" Rose inquires to the ceiling. And I just remain silent. This…has become kinda awkward. Really, really awkward.
While Sophia fangirls over Mr. Williams, we turned to the final Remnant: Colonel Sanders.
Well, he seems to uninterested in all of this. His contemplative, thousand-yard stare obviously gives that message anyway.
"He is…still in shock; it seems that this whole situation hit him harder than the rest of us," Abraham explains.
"Is- Are these the only Remnants we have on our side?" Rose asks.
"That Graves fellow did try to revive Jesus," says Robin as he finally sated Sophia's enthusiasm. "Jesus Christ, I mean. However, he got denied by that System of his."
"It's not his," I say. Well, it's not anybody's, I think. "Don't you guys have a System, or at least a version of it. Something that defines every aspect of whom you are?"
Everyone's stares are really piercing.
"Well…I don't know what you have, but mine just says my name, a level, species, and some skills," Claus explains with a resigned nod. His System sounds just like a degraded version of ours. A person brought people back to life, and they don't even get a valid evaluation.

"I'll just say, I'm glad we don't have to fight Jesus. That would be wrong on several levels." Cooper gives a thoughtful pause. "Would probably cause a ton of problems too, religiously, I mean."
So this is it—our allies. A few random Remnants are all we have to find Dr. Crime and Graves and maybe, if we have time, Hitler. I don't know how, but I feel like that mustachioed guy is here.

I didn't even deduce anything! Does this skill just give me passive hints?
"Now what?" I turn to my living allies. Cooper shrugs, but Rose has a thoughtful expression on her face. Her intense stare burns though the ground, and we all stay silent as she thinks.
"Claus," she says after a minute of silence, "are the Nazi forces still obsessed with immortality?" Claus, in turn, begins his silent pondering session, but this one is thankfully shorter.
"Sort of," he shrugs. "The Führer is still focused on such matters, but he still takes orders from Graves. It also doesn't help that we are all technically ageless now, too. He was greatly disappointed that Jesus couldn't be resurrected."
"Hmm, I might have an idea." Rose's statement got a sharp turn of the head from Sophia. Oh, boy! What shocking secret am I going to learn about my coworker today!?
————————————————————————————————————
We 'ran' back over to the main foyer where we came in. I say 'ran' because we tried our hardest at being sneaky, but only Sophia was really able to pull that off. The rest of us just kinda awkwardly shuffled our way back.
Rose gave us a plan. She and Sophia would cause a distraction. Well, they said it would be more of a bait to draw someone important to us; it could also serve as a distraction. If only she told us what they were going to do!
Jumping down from the ceiling where she crawled, Sophia asks, "Okay, Scarlet, at the top of the stairs?" With a nod, Sophia carries Rose back up the wall. The two scurry across the ceiling until Rose is right over the crossing point of two staircases.
Rose is then slowly lowered with thin silk that just glistens slightly. She visibly sighs before a soft light illuminates behind her. I didn't know she had a Light affinity.
At this point, everyone's attention is on her. With a loud rip, two ivory-white and golden laced, feathery wings sprout out of her back; her red eyes now have a white pupil.
"LISTEN TO MY CALL AND HEED MY WORDS, MORTALS!"
What. What? What?! Is this a skill, or like, uh, umm, is she half-angel? Her dad is a human, I think? I…I just don't know anymore…

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
