《The Awakened World》Vol. 2, Ch. 28 : An Alternate Perspective: The Hyper Spider

I hang up after receiving the news of Alice's new magic type. I gaze over the now cleaned up lot of Faulken's Institute, a flat landscape that shows no sign of any past events, erased completely.
I head back to my penthouse where the rest of my family is. Thomas left already and abandoned me to deal with the cleanup crew. He avoided the responsibility by saying Nora and Aria needed something, but that's a complete lie.
I walk inside to see Nora and Thomas playing each other on some kart racing game. It's kind of funny to see their bodies sway.
"I got a call from Alice." I tell Thomas, he replies while keeping his eyes on the screen. "Lessons are still on tomorrow, or did she get radiation poisoning again?" I give a sigh. "Close. She figured out environmental meditation which somehow ended up with her unlocking Radiation Magic and getting Radiation Resistance to medium." This gets him to freeze up which leaves Nora to win. He ignores her victory dance and turns to me. "That's not good. Well, it's good and bad. We need to figure out a way to raise her resistance safely ‘cause that magic is powerful. And dangerous." He starts brooding. Nora has already exhausted herself, but she seems to be listening in. "Doesn't the sun do some kind of, uh, radish? She can just lay in the sun to become i-immune." She adorably tilts her head.
Thomas ruffles her hair and I sit down next to Nora with Thomas on the other side of her. Thomas speaks up saying, "Well, yes, but if she gets her Radiation Resistance acts as partial resistance to all types of radiation. Multiple types means multiple resistances which makes immunity harder. There's only one common type of sleep which means that a maximum resistance can evolve directly to immunity. But a maximum resistance to radiation is needed to gain a minimum radiation resistance of a specific type. So, the sun releases multiple types, but the one we need can't get to us, so she would end up with like Ultraviolet resistance. To get immunity would require maximum resistance to all." He keeps ranting, but I can tell by Nora's drool that he lost her long ago.

"Sweetie," I gently guide her head towards me, "It's like the ability to eat all pies, and then training to eat specific types of pie." My analogy gets through to her as she lights up. You see, this is why I work as a teacher in the school year. Oh. I should probably mention that to Alice sometime. Oh well. I'll just add it to the list of things I need to explain that she is obviously just brushing off.
Aria comes up behind us in her android body. "I'll put Nora to bed. You both have things you need to discuss." She takes Nora by the hand and leads her to the bathroom. "Okay. But, one thing. Aria, why are you wearing a maid uniform?" Thomas stares at the wall as he asks this. "Mmm, I think it suits me." She twirls a little. "I think it looks nice." I comment on the dress, and I do have to agree. It definitely suits her. "It's just seems strange that I agree so as well." Thomas keeps staring into space.
They both leave.
"Well, what now? Radiation seems to be getting everywhere we seem to go." I fill a mug with hot chocolate using portals. He gives a long sigh. "I'll continue with my lesson plans tomorrow on spells and the types. Uh, you should probably still do the patrol job for a while, stay out of the dungeon as we still need to clear the radioactive material." He shifts in his seat a little. "I…have an idea on where we can get large amounts of gamma radiation, but we'll need to portable med bay." I reply, "I think we'll need that no matter what. Even if she doesn't have basic healing magic yet, I don't think it can clear radiation until level ten, I think?"

"Yeah," he agrees, "Plus Aria and I are still working on our million other projects." I bundle myself in a blanket near the couch. "You both work yourselves too much." He gives a small chuckle. "Well, you piss off your boss too much." I chuckle as well.
We enjoy each other's company deep into the night. Though nothing sexual occurs.

Superworld
Matt Callaghan is in trouble. In a world where everyone has superpowers, he's got squat, and has spent the last five years faking being clairvoyant just to avoid getting caught. Unfortunately, Matt's lies have started to catch up to him, and when a desperate bluff backfires he'll need every ounce of cunning, conning and juvenile delinquency to stay undetected and alive. Jane Walker is trouble. In a world where everyone is powerful, Jane stands alone and apart, hated for her ability to copy abilities and atrocities far beyond her control. But fate is a fickle friend, and a chance encounter soon finds Jane hurtling towards her lifelong dream - or prejudice, humiliation and a violent, painful death. Unbeknownst to them, Matt and Jane’s paths are inextricably intertwined, and as each struggles to find their place an unseen force will draw them ever forward – closer and closer to a secret whose existence threatens not just their lives, but the fate of the entire world. A loving homage to and twist on the superhero genre, Superworld is a fun, subversive story about identity, empathy, connection and courage which has been called “very entertaining and creative” and “an absolute pleasure” by readers, and "completely unreadable" by the author's blind grandfather.

The Rocky Shore
This is a LitRPG series. Every story you read here takes place in the same virtual world, with the same rules and limitations. Characters will travel, explore vast and dangerous realms, overcome obstacles, meet one another, enter into conflicts with one another, forge alliances, make horrible mistakes, and occasionally just die. A technological singularity has been achieved, and humanity has been trapped in a virtual world by a super-intelligent, self-improving artificial intelligence. This program is not malicious at all. In fact, it desires nothing except the happiness and fulfillment of every human it has copied into itself. If its decisions seem strange to you, that's only because its reasoning is far beyond ours. It recognizes that humans cannot be happy without enemies to overcome and goals to achieve, as well as the possibility of failure and death. The world it has created may be heaven or hell, depending on the free choices of the people it contains. The non-player characters who live in this realm have no idea that they are part of a vast computer system. They seem real enough, but there is no way to tell if they are truly self-aware. Even the system that created them isn't certain. This is world in which all the things that humans are used to dealing with in the abstract: skills, talents, knowledge, reputation, social status, morality, even love, exist as readable statistics that players can see and interact with objectively. This has many curious and complex effects on how people perceive themselves and the world around them. A few quick notes on the system: -Death is permanent -The system interface can only be accessed at certain locations. -Magic of diverse kinds is available and useful, but is not a good substitute for skills, physicallity, or mental prowess. Non-magical characters are common and competitive. -There is no inventory system. Characters must physically carry everything they wish to have on their person. -Healing is slow and difficult. Magical Healing is all but unheard of. Protagonists: Raymond Garrison- A man in his late twenties who used to work as a forklift operator in Idaho. His path leads him to work as a mercenary, protecting a small community of humans and goblins from the Seelie Fae who wish to exterminate them. Patricia Chandler- A elderly British woman who arrives in this new world with her grandson Kyle and her granddaughter Elizabeth. Never having dealt with rpg game mechanics before, she is in for a rough time, but she is determined to keep her grandkids alive in a world full of danger and evil. Jamil Mesbah- An Egyptian woman who once worked as a technical writer. Her path leads into a vast and hostile forest, where she must master both her magical abilities and her survival skills in order to succeed. Enjoy your travels, friends.
