《The Awakened World》Vol. 2, Ch. 26 : Pointed Encounter on Public Transportation

I wake up in the familiar medical bay with an unfamiliar weight on me. I'm not wearing my costume anymore, and instead am wearingly usual clothes.
I look down at the weight resting on my chest only to find that Nora is sleeping. Not wanting to wake her, so I just accept my fate of being a pillow. That is, until an unknown amount of time later when she stirs awake.
Well, snorts awake. She sits up groggily. "Oh, you're awake. Mom told me to tell you that you're cleared of radi-rad-radia. What was it?" "Radiation?" I offer. "Yeah, that. Anyway, I wanna sleep more." She starts to lay back down on me again, but I sit up to stop her. "Aww. You're comfortable. And smell like chicken." I gently pick her up and set her to the side while ignoring that last statement. I leave the medical bay with a tail. Not my usual wolf tail either, a dragonewt one following me, who is the age for elementary school.
"Hey, do you go to school? You look like the age for it." I comment. "I do go! It's just summer vacation don't you know?" "Oh, what grade are you going to be in next year?" "6th grade!" She answers before bounding off to somewhere. "Aria, will she be alright just wandering around?" I call out to the air. "I make sure that all of the dangerous stuff is locked away while she's here." The speakers on the wall reply. "Mmm, alright. So what now?" "Mom and Dad have decided to give you a free day while they take care of any and all radioactive material, so they're out in the city performing cleanup."
Using the teleportation pad in the underwater base and a flash of blue light later and I appear back in Sophia and Thomas's kitchen.

"Guess I'll do whatever." Maybe I'll go visit Madison at work. I leave the apartment and head for the nearest subway station. I sit in the mustard smelling car and cross my arms and close my eyes.
…
…
…
I feel something. Who's sitting next to me? Why can I feel someone next to me? I open my eyes.
[ Through possession of skill: Danger Sense(Medium, Passive) you have unlocked skill: Presence Detection(Minimum, Passive) ]
[ Presence Detection - Allows the user to sense the presence of other entities. Range and type depend on skill proficiency. ]
That answers one question. I look over to see a girl with unusually long ears sticking out the side of her head. An obvious sign of an elf. Though the strange thing is the long blue hair she possesses with her porcelain white skin. She also seems to be in her teens. Though all of this observation is useless as she has EarPods in her ears and is distracted on her phone.
She's just so distracted that she sat next to me. In a seat next to another person, on a practically empty car. Though all the other occupied seats are filled so that she would have to sit between two guys or next to one guy. And all of them are leering at her. Hmm, this smells like a flag if I do say so myself.
Oh, she's nudging my arm ever so slightly. I look at her phone.
'Please help. They've been following me for 10 min.' She typed. Oh dear, I need to stop using the subway. You think I would've learned by now.
The tension in the car is stifling. But it soon slows. The doors open.
"Come on. Let's go see Madison. I'm sure she'll be surprised to see us at her job." I loudly say to the girl next to me as I pull her up. We slowly walk out the door as all of the other gentlemen stand up as well. We make it somewhat out of the door, but a hand grasps my shoulder.

"Run." I whisper to the girl before we make a mad dash for the stairs with a group of guys behind us. We make it up the stairs which thankfully has a few officers at the top. Now I just hope that they'll help.
"Excuse me, sirs. But there are some guys that are chasing us." I push the matter into their hands as they look behind us. "Hey stop!" One of the officers shouts. The guys falter a little at their words. "Uh. We were just walking, quickly, over here." One of them said while shuffling the others along.
Soon we were dismissed by the officers and we went our merry way. "Thank you." The elf mumbles to me. "It's fine. Just be safe." She nods and walks away.
I walk into the Museum of Natural History. Now, just where is she? I grab one of the public maps and methodically make my way through every exhibit. When I walk into a room with a large meteorite I spot her in the corner and walk over to her.
"Oh, you're not drowning yourself in alcohol. Glad to see you better. Especially after Space Weaver herself explained everything that happened, which was a lot." She comments with a raised eyebrows at my approach. Though the rest of her body language says she's happy to see me, such as the smile on her face and the approaching hug which I accept.
"Great to see you." I tell her. I'm glad that after all of the events she still cares for me, and it seems that Sophia explained some things to her which saves me the trouble of doing it myself.
We catch up a little. It seems that she's attempting the police academy again, but it's a slow process. I tell her that I have a new training regimen, but avoid the excessive amounts of radiation poisoning I've had in the last few days. A while later and the day ends, leaving tomorrow still undecided.

Points of Light - An Oral History of the Collapse
Humanity endures. The phrase is not only an informal slogan of the reformed United Nations, but a rallying cry the world over. Even in the face of extermination, we struggled, we fought, and we endured. But just how close did we actually come? In our darkest hour, how many steps separated our species from oblivion? And are we even safe now? Were the mistakes made by earlier generations really so obvious? Or are they only so blatent when we look back with the advantage of hindsight? If so, what horrors might be staring us in the face even now that no one has the foresight to prevent? Drawn from thousands of interviews, as well as uncorrupted contemporary recordings and source documentation dating back to the early 2000s; Points of Light is a definative look at the last half century of upheaval, prosperity and carnage. It tells the tale of what happened, how it happened, who was responsible and most importantly, what we might be able to do to prevent it from happening again. This is a rewrite of a previously started fiction under a pen-name. Chapters will be updated every two days at 6:00 EST.
