《Let's Play: Chronicles of Zurefgar》Intermission - Races

I used to play as an orc warrior, until I took an arrow to the knee….

Hmmph….

Jokes aside, I did literally take an arrow to the knee while helplessly watching my team being strangled by waves of crowd control abilities. It was not a fun experience, definitely a frustrating one.

Thus, I snatched the chance to restart my class as guardian paladin because avenger was far too edgy for me, shamans were definitely complicated, and boar mystic does not have such capabilities.

The thing is, guardian paladins are only available for humans or dwarves. Race specific classes is the feature that some people protested, though for me it might make a lot of sense lore wise. I mean… undead paladin would be kind of weird, right?

But if I think about it again, it does seem like a cool idea.

Anyway, putting classes aside, each race does offer their own perks. Orc’s perks have a lot to do with brute force or shamanistic magic for offence while the dwarves have a more defensive alignment using their bulk. Both rakhs and elves offer bonuses related to swiftness where rakhs offer a more offensive approach and elves towards elusiveness. Plagued ones bonuses revolved around them being undead thus had some magic affinity and resilience towards crowd control despite clearly lower growth in HP area. Meanwhile, we humans revolve around being adventurous and alive, giving faster recovery and higher intelligence growth.

Another thing that I realised regarding these races were apparent only after I started playing as a human. Bonuses were great, but body size does matter in VRMMORPG.

I never realised that being an orc means that I am a huge target. That works if I want to be the focus of opponent attacks. Naturally people would think that being a human or dwarven guardian paladin would be less effective since we are harder to spot. However, at least our relatively tinier size as a paladin means I can surprise people by sneaking here and there before countering their attacks. We lose some and we win some, fair enough.

However, size wise, I do not think that is a wise choice if you want to be an orcish wizard or warlock. You would be a large easy target for your opponents’ attacks

Talking about orcs, if not mistaken, they allow each orc to wield two handed axes regardless of class. Now, imagine playing as a rogue trying to backstab an orcish spellcaster just for them to smack you in the face using a two handed axe.
