《The Chiefess》Chapter 45 – Rivals

Ourupadia’s head slammed against the ground. Staring at her body, it happened at such a speed that it took Charlie a few seconds to realise what had happened. Casually, the Chiefess knelt on one leg by the side of Ourupadia. Placing a knife to the woman’s neck, she readied to open her neck. Throwing himself forward, Charlie gripped the hand which held the knife.
Staring up at him, Charlie could see the blank look across her face. His hands shook, his grip loosened as the Chiefess’s eyes fixed on his.
“Move,” she said, releasing the hand she used to grip the hair of Ourupadia to gently stroke his hand off hers.
“Please,” he murmured to her, his voice shaking.
“Move,” she said, trying to press the knife against Ourupadia. Ourupadia’s eyes were almost glazed over as she tired her best to struggled against the Chiefess. Tightening his grip as much as he could, he kept his eyes locked on that of the Chiefess’s.
“Please, she has done nothing wrong, she was just trying to make sure I didn’t over work myself. She wasn’t trying to hurt me,” Charlie pled as he continued to stare.
“She touch, she die,” the Chiefess said, he cold, unsympathetic, uncaring glare fixed onto the knife.
“I slice neck, paint me in blood, but she no touch mine,” the Chiefess said, digging her knife into the side of Ourupadia’s neck. Without thinking of the consequences, Charlie wrapped his hand around the blade of the knife.
Stretching her face in one if pure confusion. Letting go of Ourupadia’s hair, and dropping her knife, she wrapped her hands around his bleeding fist.
“Idiot!” She said, quacking dragging him away from Ourupadia, but not forgetting to grab her knife.
“NOLKONOE!” the Chiefess screamed, not knowing a healing spell that wouldn’t make him pass out or make him ill.
Darting through the door, Nolkonoe’s eyes widened as she saw the blood pouring from Charlie’s hand.
“What happened? You said you were just going in to get Charlie!” Nolkonoe screeched in their native language as the teary eyes Chiefess as she backed away from Charlie.
“It was an accident! He just grabbed my knife!” the Chiefess said, trying to hold back her tears as she saw Charlie began to cry as Nolkonoe used some heavy healing magic on him. She wasn’t sure how deep the cut was, but to prevent any nerves or bones being broken she didn’t want to take any chances as she began to apply and even stronger healing magic.
Switching to English, Nolkonoe used her tail to lift Charlie’s face to make him look at her.
“What happened?” she questioned, not stopping as she continued to carefully heal his hand.
“She was going to hurt Ourupadia, so I grabbed her knife to stop her,” Charlie stared down at his reddening hand.
“I…I didn’t think it would do this,” he said, his voice cracking and straining as he began to bite his bottom lip to stop himself from crying.
“You are a fucking idiot! Why did you do that?” Nolkonoe said, looking to Ourupadia as she slowly dragged herself off the floor.
“Well, I’m not going to just let her kill Ourupadia!” Charlie yelled.

“Why didn’t you get me then! I always and will always look after you!”
“Well, I didn’t know you were an option!” Taking in a few deep breaths to calm herself, Nolkonoe began to bandage his hand with a few pieces of cloth from a leather bag that hung on her side. The wound was healed, but still she wanted to make sure there was no chance the small cut that now on his hand didn’t open again.
Taking her attention from Charlie, Nolkonoe fixed her eyes onto the Chiefess. Quietly she sat, staring at the crimson blood on the knife.
“Etasose, we need to talk outside,” Nolkonoe said in a harsh whisper. Getting up, she ran over to Ourupadia.
As Nolkonoe treated the injuries of Ourupadia, the Chiefess felt her heart race. Fixing her eyes onto Charlie, she began to stalk towards him. Out the corner of his eye, he saw her approach. Stumbling, he backed away from Etasose. Blood splattered up her arms from where she had cut him. Backing away, Charlie kept his eyes fixed onto her.
“Please,” he begged, tears gathering at the corners of his eyes. Pouncing, she pinned him. Wrapping her arms around him, she placed her lips to his ear.
“Sorry,” she said. Charlie wanted again to beg for her to leg him go, but he stayed quite as he felt tears begin to flow over his shoulder.
“Sorry, sorry, sorry,” she said, her voice cracking as she held him tighter. Looking over to Nolkonoe, he could see she was busy working on Ourupadia.
“Forgive,” she begged, crying more as she tucked her tail between her legs.
Charlie felt his body shake. He wanted to run. Escape and leave, yet his body was too tightly held by the blubbering Chiefess. A shadow fell over them, blocking the light of the fire. Looking up, he saw Ourupadia standing over the. Kneeling down by their side, Ourupadia placed a hand onto the head of the Chiefess. Jumping, she glared at Ourupadia. Pulling Charlie down against her chest, she snarled at Ourupadia.
“I don’t want him,” Ourupadia said, giving a gentle smile to the Chiefess. For a moment the Chiefess was silent.
“What?” she responded, not understanding how a women wouldn’t want her beloved pet.
“He is yours your majesty. I would never take him from you,” Ourupadia said, bowing her head onto the floor.
“Why? Who wouldn’t want him?” the Chiefess said, staring at the woman as she bowed her head lower, pressing it against the ground.
“All I ask is that you look after him. I would die to have him, but I would gladly die for you, your majesty. You are the last of a clan that I greatly admire, but I see you as a rivel. I wish to be stronger than you, better than you, and have Charlie love me more than you. But never once would I do something as low than steal him from under you. If I am to have him, I would dual you for him. So yes, I want him, and I will have him. Just wait until I am stronger my Chiefess, and I shall take him,” Ourupadia admitted, raising her head and locking eyes with a stunned Chiefess.

Narrowing her eyes, the Chiefess nodded.
“I see. I apologise. But lets make this clear, touch him, and I’ll skin you. I only spear you tonight because we are friends. When you are stronger, find me, and we’ll duel,” the Chiefess said, wiping the tears from her eyes as she stood up, Charlie pressed against her chest.
“We are going to the feast,” the Chiefess declared, a confused and terrified Charlie pressed against her.
“Etasose, we need to talk,” Nolkonoe said strictly, standing and walking towards the Chiefess. Putting out a hand, the Chiefess halted her advance.
“No, we’ll talk about this later. I need to calm down, and I think my beautiful little thing here needs to as well,” the Chiefess said, quickly turning and leaving with Charlie.
“That was close,” Ourupadia sighed, collapsing to the floor, her hand running across her neck where the Chiefess had almost killed her.
“I understand you want what is best for him, but its best to leave him alone for the time being. The Chiefess is becoming more and more protective of him since the clan are aiming for him. Don’t touch him, don’t even look at him for the time being. Charlie or I may not be around next time to stop her. Your strong Ourupadia, but the Chiefess is the strongest,” Nolkonoe explained, staring at the doorway.
She could tell the Chiefess wanted to rip Ourupadia apart. The only reason why she didn’t was because rationality took over, and she understood that if she was to get Charlie to like her, she couldn’t just murder her competition Infront of him. Grimacing, Nolkonoe could only dread what the Chiefess had planned to do to Charlie. In all sense of the word, he was innocent, but she most likely saw this as some kind of betrayal.
“Good luck,” Nolkonoe muttered, hopping that somehow her words reached him.
Down the steps, the Chiefess silently carried Charlie. Shadow cast over her face, making it hard to see any expression. Carefully, Charlie peeked around her to see her tail. It lay slumped between her legs. A sign of sadness? Or anger? Charlie didn’t really want to find out as he felt the strong arms of the Chiefess compress around him.
“Mine,” she muttered harshly as they approached the final hundred steps of the temple.
“I’m yours,” Charlie said, leaning his head against her chest in a sign of submission by exposing the weakness of his neck to her.
They were wolves, they liked to often dominate their partners. Now wasn’t the time for him to be nervous or oppose her, if he wanted to survive, he would need to simply to what ever she commanded. Staring at the shadows that concealed her face, he could roughly make out her drooping ears. Momentarily light from a fire poured over the two, revealing to him a few tickles of tears moving down the sides of her face.
“I love you,” she said, lifting him higher as she rubbed her face against his hair.
“Give cuddles, give love,” she said quietly as they reached the lasts step.
“Okay, anything I can provide I will give,” Charlie said, nuzzling his head against her. Chuckling a little at his sudden adorableness, the Chiefess used her index and thumb to lift his head so that he would look at her.
“Mate?” she said, placing a kiss onto his lips. From her tone, she guessed it was a question. So, she was asking him for sex? Well at least that was something better.
“Later, first lets eat, drink, and watch the dancers,” Charlie said, looking to the ongoing party. At this, her ears pricked up. Perfect, now all he needed to do was keep her like this for the night and he as well as Ourupadia would be in the clear.
Joyfully, she skipped over to her throne. Sitting herself down onto the throne, she smiled as she watched Charlie trying to find a chair for him to sit on.
“Sit,” she said, patting her lap with a sly smile.
Charlie gulped and blushed as he saw women watching him. Again, the Chiefess angrily patted her lap. Feeling his heart thump, he walked slowly to the Chiefess’s side. Patting her lap, she had Charlie sit on her. Sitting down, he allowed her to run her hands through his hair. Grabbing his hair, she dragged him closer to herself. Once her breasts pressed against Charlie’s back, she began to lick and kiss his neck.
“Tonight, much sex,” she giggled into his ear as she began to nibble on his neck.
“Handsome,” she continued, her hands wondering over his body.
“You do bad, you get forgive when enter me,” she said, a hand wondering from his chest down to his crouch.
“Eat, drink, be happy,” she said, gesturing one of the servers to her side. Quickly she ordered some drinks and something to eat. Placing her order, she returned to pampering her pet with kisses and licks.
It wasn’t long before the drinks were brought to them. Infront of Charlie was placed a piece of Desert Crawler meat.
“Last bit, you have,” she said, offering the meat to him.
“Thank you,” Charlie said, taking the meat and beginning to carefully eat the juice packed meat.
The Chiefess happily ate some meat from another one of the desert animals. For the time being, she stopped her touching of him as she drank several large cups of a tropical drink. Once both had finished eating, the Chiefess stood up, placing Charlie onto her throne as she did so. Leaning closer, she placed her lips against his ear.
“Watch me,” running off, she disappeared into the crowd.
Charlie sat nervously in his chair for a while, but soon the Chiefess emerged. Drums roared in a strange crescendo and all dancers left the stage. Up the steps came none other than the Chiefess in dancing attire. Smiling, she locked eyes with him as she took centre stage. Carefully Charlie listened to the chattering of the audience. He couldn’t understand their words, but there were a few that he recognised, “mating dance.”

Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here. The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
