“Hey Zane, you guys wouldn’t happen to know a good, yet cheap contract lawyer, would you?” Zoe asked smiling sweetly at the nurse after he came to check on her.
“Sonya will be here in a little bit to help you take a bath,” Zane said before looking up from the readouts. “Why is your hair wet?”
“I had the NurseBot help me take a bath a few minutes ago. I don’t trust it to touch my hair and towel drying only gets out most of the moisture,” Zoe answered.
“Oh. Yeah, that makes sense. I’ll let Sonya know,” Zane said.
“Now, about the lawyer?”
“Yeah, Claire has one on retainer we use. I’ll send you their contact information if you need it,” Zane replied arching an eyebrow in question. He was clearly fishing for information. Zoe explained about the call from CyberBionic. He sent her the contact info. “Yeah. You’ll want an attorney to look over any contract they send you.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. The attorney isn’t cheap and will probably charge 1000 credits to look over the contract,” Zane said.
“Figures,” Zoe said shaking her head. “I wonder if I could get the attorney to get their fee added to my deal.”
“That would be smart if you could,” Zane replied. “Need anything else?”
“No…wait,” Zoe replied. She had just thought of something very important. “Actually, there is.”
“Ok?”
“Do you know what happened to my Triple Black?” Zoe asked.
“Your baby is dead. Garbage truck ran over her and totaled your GT4,” Zane answered.
“Oh no!”
“On the positive side, I found out for you that Knight’s insurance program will pay for a new bike,” Zane said as Zoe’s eyes had started to tear up.
“That’s great!”
“Just one other bad bit of news. You can’t get another Triple Black,” Zane said.

Zoe frowned. “I had heard that Knight only made a limited run of them.”
“Still, you can get a regular GT4 or one of their others,” Zane said. “The Triple Black is nice, but as I told you before, I prefer some chrome on my bikes.”
“Thanks for finding that out for me. I’ll look into it further once I’m on the road to recovery,” Zoe said.
“Kristine Simpson told me she’ll be waiting for your call.”
“Thanks again.”
“You’re welcome. Sonya will be along to bring you dinner when it’s ready,” Zane said before stepping out of the room.
“I wonder if Jimmy or Henri know a cheaper lawyer,” Zoe said to herself. “Only one way to find out.”
*
Jimmy didn’t know any attorneys and suggested Zoe ask Tony or Nucky. She politely declined. Zoe had no intention of getting further involved with the mob except for making courier runs when needed and paying off her debt.
Mitchell Stevens, Doc Brown’s attorney, had a solid reputation and his office was located on the 30th floor of one of Manhattan’s high rises. She imagined the lawyer’s office had a good view which explained why his assistant did say they wanted 1000 credits to check out the contract and offer suggestions. Zoe had replied she would get back to them but wanted to explore other options first. So, she called Henri.
“Hey Henri,” Zoe said greeting her boss after he answered the call.
“Hey Zoe. How are you feeling?” Henri replied.
“Good except for not being able to walk or feel my legs.”
“Doctor Brown told me that was temporary and that you’d be up and about once the new spinal implant is installed,” Henri replied. Zoe could hear the concern in her boss’ voice. “Has something changed?”
“No, nothing has changed. Hopefully, I’ll be back to work between six weeks and two months,” Zoe said. “Will I still have a job to come back to?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t fire someone for getting into such a severe wreck even if it was due to their stupidity,” Henri replied.
“Hey!”
“It’s the truth,” Henri said.
“Yeah…” Zoe conceded. Henri just smiled.
“Going to get your bike fixed?” Henri asked changing the subject slightly.
“Afraid not. My baby is totaled.”
“Insurance?”
“Knight’s is paying for a new bike. I’ll have to get a regular GT4 or another bike. Knight doesn’t make the Triple Black anymore,” Zoe answered.
“If your insurance wasn’t through your bike’s manufacturer, I would suggest getting a cheaper bike and pocketing the rest of the credits, but I doubt Knight lets you do that,” Henri said.
“Me either,” Zoe agreed. They talked for a while longer and Zoe finally got around to asking about a contract attorney.
“I use Katz Sipser PLLC. It’s a partnership that a couple of friends of my father’s formed years ago. Their office is located on the 30th floor of the Chrysler Building.”
“How expensive are they?” Zoe asked. She knew the Chrysler Building was a historic site and thought it would be expensive to have offices there. She explained to Henri about her deal with CyberBionic and wanting the lawyer’s fees added to it.
“Katherine Katz handles most of my business these days since Michael, her father, retired. Kenneth Sipser is the primary partner now and is close to retiring himself. Katherine charges 500 credits an hour and would be happy to include her fees in your deal. She just did the same for me on the Bowery deal,” Henri explained. “And in case you’re wondering, we don’t do runs for Katz Sipser since the company, and I are clients. That whole conflict of interest thing.”
“What deal?” Zoe asked ignoring the reason why Cartier Transport didn’t run for the law firm.
“Mr Bowery was so pleased with our professionalism over the last two jobs we did for him that he has signed awarded us an exclusive contract for all his personal courier needs for the next two years,” Henri answered happily. He sent Katherine Katz a message explaining what Zoe wanted and to expect her call.
“Congratulations!”
“You helped make it possible with that first run.”
“Yeah. I hate that I missed out on the second party invites though.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to deliver invitations for him,” Henri said. “Mr Bowery hosts parties once a month and dinners every other week. I’ve also been told we can expect some more work from EcoFoods as well.”
“Wow! Things are looking up after the harassment from Hayabasa,” Zoe said.
“Oui. That’s behind us by the way and nothing more to worry about,” Henri said.
“That’s good.”
“Oui. Chloe and the others want to take you out to watch a street race.”
“I think I’ve had enough of street racing for one lifetime,” Zoe laughed.
“It’s part of courier life,” Henri pointed out. “We’ve just been easing you in.”
“Ah,” Zoe replied a little dumbfounded. Though it did make sense since the job was literally racing from one location to another delivering data.
“We can wheel you around in a wheelchair,” Henri said.
“No thanks. Doc Brown has loaned me a NurseBot,” Zoe replied.
“Then you don’t have an excuse to refuse,” Henri said teasing her. “But I agree with you. Street racing can wait until you’re back in action.”
They chatted a while longer until Henri had to take other calls.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
