《Buried City》Chapter 31

The culinary arts could be considered to be almost as old as humanity itself, some say, this does mean that there were quite a few weird dishes and meals created all along the history of mankind… What I am seeing right now probably trumps all of it.
Gorger has been making food, a lot of food, food of all kinds. He has an open air kitchen right outside my dungeon entrance to the greenhouse. I have created kitchen utensils for him to use and also supplied a lot of ingredients, and by ingredients I mean a lot of corpses. Right now just as Merlin had a large assortment of lessons for him, so does Gorger have a large number of tests, lizards and crabs are all arrayed around and in various states of cooking and in various cuts. Right now Gorger is putting imp dust on three hearts skewered in a long piece of wood, the lizard hearts have a weird shrively and red color in between the three hearts are two lizard vertebrae, they were also cooked using imp fire.
Gorger sets the hearts in a bone plate, completing a set of three heart skewers. Next to it are a few more dishes made by him, one is a lot of fat fried intestines with small crab pincers artistically put around it, making a circle. The most normal dish is the blood cake he made, though they all have a topping of crab and lizard eyes.
So yeah… Lots of inventive dishes all around, Gorger seems happy, he is drooling just thinking about eating it, he’s also not the only one. All around him are Ghouls, all of them are a variation of zombie passed Level 10, and all of them are staring at the large feast, made by Gorger to himself. He slowly starts to eat the meal, savoring each bite with clear happiness and then one of the zombies screams.
The zombie jumps and dives to one of the plates, Gorger, moving faster than I thought he was able to, opens his palm in the direction of the zombie and shoots his tongue at them, stopping their momentum dead. The zombie then bites Gorger’s tongue… doing nothing at all, his tongue being simply too strong for the teeth and jaw of a simple zombie to really do anything Gorger seems to find this amusing.

The zombie quickly realizes the futility of trying to eat the tongue and tries another go at the dishes, and again they are stopped dead by Gorger, who is now wondering if he can get away with killing the zombie… Which he cannot, no way I am giving him permission for that.
Gorger gets up, walks up to the zombie and throws them towards the small zombie horde, the thrown zombie then stands up, grabs another zombie and repays Gorger in kind, who simply swats the thrown bystander zombie to the side then shoots his tongues towards the horde wanting to scatter them, which works, he slowly advances towards them making them rung even farther.
While all the zombies are running away from Gorger he forgets something. The swatted zombie, laying quietly on the ground, so easily forgotten, crawls slowly towards the bone table with the dishes, they get up and stretch their hands towards the nearest one, a plate full of roasted lizard tails, just as the rotten hands touch the food the zombies feels a weird slithering in their stomach, they look down and see the familiar pink appendage of Gorger who yanks them away from the table, the zombie however is not done, they sink their fingers and nails deep in the table before they are pulled, making the table flip and all the dishes fall unto the ground.
There is a single second of silence, none of the undead here care at all about the fact that the dishe’s fell onto the dirt, if anything Gorger might see that as seasoning, but for some reason seeing the food on the ground makes the zombies see it as free game. All of the zombies start running towards the food, before Gorger can do anything I tell him that I will not accept grievous injuries on them, if any of them are too hurt he will pay… in food. Gorger actually lets out a deranged and weirdly haunted gurgle before using his tongues to sweep the zombies off their feet.
This goes on for a few minutes, the zombies desperately trying to steal food and Gorger stopping them. This little circus attracts the attention of the nearby undead; they all stop to watch it… until one of them breaks from the crowd.

Stinger approaches and grabs a steamed pincer in her bony digits, Goger and the zombies stop moving for a second and I can feel their thoughts running like trains through their heads. The zombies are mostly wondering if all other skeletons will also try to steal food, Gorger is getting worried for his future meals, he shoots a tongue at Stinger, she dodges, makes eye contact and then eats the pincer in one bite, she turns and grabs another one before dodging another tongue strike. Again she eats it whole and Gorger increases his tongue attacks, she just keeps dodging and eating in between, soon all the pincers are gone, digested by her necrotic energy, the zombies are all staring at her completely spellbound, Gorger is spitting made, literally, he is actually making weird noises with his mouth and spitting droplets of acid around. Stinger starts grabbing the other pieces of food, this causes a three way ‘battle’ with the zombies trying to steal any piece of food they can, Stinger doing the same and Gorger trying to stop all of them. One the zombies lunges at her, she slaps him across the face and for a second I imagine the zombie's head flying off, or exploding, instead the zombie spins like he’s a clock hand his head spins down clockwise while his feet go up in the air before they crumple on the ground confused at what just happened.
The food fight goes on, Stinger wins while the supply dwindles the dishes Gorger made disappear into Stinger’s nonexistent stomach and I feel a thought run through the zombies, suddenly they realize that if this keeps up there will be no food at all for any of them, they realize that maybe, if they work together they may eat something. All of them suddenly start to pull mana into their bodies, without realizing it. I watch as they advance and start to change.
The group separates, a few of them going towards Stinger and others forming a wall in Gorger’s direction to protect from the tongues. The ones charging Stinger separate further into two groups, one advances and splits again, intending to surround her, she lets them. They all jump trying to pile on her, she jumps upwards easily out of their reach when one of the zombies from the second group leaps towards her aerial self, just as it seems they will tag her she raises her foot and stomps down sending the leaping zombie down… right into the tangle of zombies bellow who all rise upwards and push them right back, she is not impressed and just kicks them again, but this time uses the kick to push herself away.
Just as she lands all of them break off and start running away towards the dungeon entrance. Gorger and Stinger both watch as they run away, towards the entrance… where a single zombie is waiting with an arm full of stolen food, food it got while the other two were busy with the concentrated zombie attack. Gorger stands still for a moment, before running towards them while Stinger seems satisfied with her workout and loses interest in the zombies. The zombies all share their spoils with gusto, savoring each bite I feel the necrotic mana of the entrance drain towards them, and then it happens, all of them suddenly start changing, their skin becomes thicker and greyer their bones start to become denser and their posture changes so they are slightly hunched. All of them evolve from zombies to Pack Ghouls, and they even gain a skill, {Pack Tactics}.
Cult Initiate to Exuberant Feast Cultist
All of them suddenly became Feast cultists? Huh,wait, I can feel something in Gorger too.
Exuberant Feast Cultist to Neophyte Warlock of Feast
He became a warlock?
The Devil Schjaarl Latst Cerise has rewarded Gorger for his meritorious deeds!
Devil? Wasn’t this guy a demon the last time?
A book materializes in a ball of flames right in front of Gorger, through his eyes I see it is a beautiful larger book, the cover is made from a bronze metal and… wait is this?
Gorger open this book!
He obeys my command and I see the contents of the bronze book.
Wow it really is a spellbook! Nice. I suddenly feel a thought from Gorger, wondering if he can ea— No! No you cannot eat this book… I think. Well, we will discover together.

Find out this and much more in the first book of the Fat Boy Hero Series. -History of FBH- Fat Boy Hero is a story long in the making. The idea came from my love of hero stories, but the lack of relatable heroes. By that i mean there were no, or few heroes that dealt with weight gain. Something I have and am dealing with after leaving the Marine Corps. So Fat Boy Hero was born. Check out the link below to listen to an episode of The Round Table Podcast where I brainstormed the idea with the hosts and special guest Michael underwood. http://www.roundtablepodcast.com/2013/03/workshop-episode-53-guest-host-michael-r-underwood/ This book is a side project and will be updated as time permits. I hope you do not find this too off-putting.
