Rei’s POV!
Today was one of the most memorable days of my life.
After years of putting in a lot of effort, I was finally accepted into one of the greatest schools in the world.
'Sakuru,' an entire continent where humanity have evolved into one of the world's safest and most advanced nations.
My parents were overjoyed and supportive when they learned that I had been accepted to that institution. They were also fine about me living alone.
It was something new, but I was excited about the new life I was about to start on.
My dream was to become a well known nurse where I could cure any kind of disease or injuries.
Despite the fact that this may appear unrealistic, it was my dream that I was trying to accomplish.
That was my dream until... someone confessed to me.
It was a tall boy that was in the same classroom as me. While he had the features of what could be considered handsome between the other girls. To me, I didn't really feel any attachment towards him.
While most of my friends already had a relationship, I didn't really feel like having one just yet. That's why I turned him down.
For as long as I could develop my abilities to cure people in need, I was fine with being the only one without a boyfriend.
That was what I thought until one day… he appeared in front of me.
It was just another normal day at school while I was on my way to return some of the books I had borrowed.
But as I was on my way there, I bumped into someone without noticing and fell over him.
“Ouch!”
I wasn't sure at that time, but I felt a warm feeling on my chest while trying to understand what just happened to me.
“Uhhh... are you ok?”
Suddenly, I heard the voice of a guy who was trying to get up.
And since I didn't want to stay in that embarrassing position any longer, I immediately got up and tried picking up my books.

“Ah yes I'm sorry for bumping into yo...” I tried apologizing as I was trying to pick up my books.
I wasn't sure why… but the moment I laid my eyes to the boy in front of me… I was speechless.
It was a brown haired boy that I had never seen before around this school. His face looked really awkward and he didn't seem that confident in the way he talked.
But what is this feeling inside me when I look at him?
Even though I have never met him before… I felt like my heart was about to burst.
“It's okay,... this is also my fault for not paying attention to where I was going.” After noticing how I was looking at his face, he responded.
“Ah r-right” Since I didn't want to make things awkward between us, I decided to pick up the fallen books, only to notice that the boy was helping me as well.
“Thanks.”
I didn't know how else I should respond to him.
Maybe I should ask for his name?
“I don't mind...
By the way I'm Hatsuko”
But before I could ask for his name, he already introduced himself.
“Oh, my name is Rei.”
“Nice to meet you Rei.” He responded with a gentle smile on his face while continuing to look at me.
Why is he staring at me like that? Did I perhaps say something weird?!
I hope that I’m not dirty anywhere. That would be really embarrassing.
“Um, is something wrong?” I asked as he didn't seem to be budging his eyes away from me.
“Ah n-no, nothing!” He panicky responded as he wryly smiled.
But now that I am looking closely at the bags that he had, he must be a transfer student.
“The bags you have there, you must be a new student here?”
I wasn't sure if I was acting too friendly with him, but if he’s a new student here. Then I would love to show him around the whole school.
Maybe I’ll get to know him that way.
“Yes, I was actually lost trying to find my way to the principal.”

“This place is really big, so how about I help you? I know where the place you want to go is.”
“I'll take up your offer then.”
Even though I was just showing his way to the principal, I felt really happy that I got the chance to spend some time with him. I couldn't help but smile that he accepted my help.
I showed a few places and where things were while we were heading to the principal's office. But since this was the first day he had arrived, I wanted him to get a bit more comfortable.
I'm sure that he must be tired from the trip.
“Here is the door to the principal”
I hadn't noticed it, but while I was showing around, but time had passed really quick by the time we were at the principal.
“Oh right, thank you very much for helping me.”
“Well… I need to go take these books somewhere so, I'll see you around... Hatsuko.”
I felt a little sad that I couldn't manage to spend a little more time with him, but I was still happy with this much.
W-wait! Happy?
Why do I feel really happy when I am with him?
…
I kept thinking all night about Hatsuko…
I wasn't sure why, but I couldn't think of anything else other than him.
Maybe I might bump into him tomorrow as well. That would be really funny.
“Hehe”
But our second meeting wasn't as I had expected.
When I was walking down the hallway, I found him unconscious and beaten up on the floor.
What happened to him and why wasn't anyone helping him? Is this school taking care of its students properly?
How could this happen?
“....”
Since I didn't want to leave him like this, I tried healing all of his bruises while trying to wake him up.
“Hatsuko! W-wake up.”
He wasn't that badly injured, and while my ability was taking effect I noticed that he was waking up.
“Uh, Rei?” He called out my name as he was trying to get up.
“Ah thank goodness, you're finally awake.” I worriedly said after he was fully conscious.
“What happened to you?” I wasn't sure if it was my place to ask him, but I couldn't just leave him like that.
He was left on the floor like that and no one seemed to bother helping him. And this was only his first day in this school
“Someone tripped and beat me…” He answered me with a voice that seemed pitiful and troubled.
Someone beat him up?! Did he accept a duel or something because this doesn't make sense?
I don’t find Hatsuko to be the violent type, that's why I felt like something was wrong here.
“Please try not to move too much while I finish healing you!.”
“Oh th-thanks…”
“....”
“....”
“....”
“You can move now.” I let out a relieved sigh when I saw him get up just fine. “I found you lying on the floor unconscious, and your face was beaten up really badly.”
But what confused me a bit was how he avoided this conversation.
“What time is it?”
“3rd period is about to begin.”
I wanted to respect his privacy, that's why I didn't try to pry any further of what happened here.
“I... I see... I need to go now, I have ‘ability practice’ class right now. I'm really sorry you had to help out someone like me.”
He thinks so low of himself…
“No no, it wasn't a waste of time at all, I'm glad I could help you.”
“Thank you very much........Rei”
While he was running away from here, I kept looking at his back.
I didn't know why, but I felt like I had to help him somehow. There must have been a reason why he got himself in trouble on the first day of school.
No, I must do this! Even though I can heal him anytime with my powers, I would rather not see people get hurt like that.
I have to do something!

Remorse
I have killed many people over my long life. Men, women, children. None have escaped the shadows that I control. It was only one tiny mistake that I made that changed my life forever. I underestimated her, and I would pay for my hubris. “For every death you have given, you will feel their pain.” What? “For every person you have killed, you will feel regret.” Wait, wait… “For every murder you have commited, you will know what you have done.” I don’t think this is going to be pretty. The power leaves her voice as she continues in a softer tone. “I will give you back what you have lost, you will feel empathy again.” Her power releases me and I fall to the ground. Diana. That was her name. I will remember it. ******** This story starts out somewhat dark, but it will lighten up after the first chapter. I tend to not enjoy the psychological tag too much since stories with the tag tend to be a little insane for my liking, but I feel that I would be remiss not putting it on this story, since a lot of it is about the psychology of the main character. All the content warnings are checked since I want to leave my options open to me for the future. I hope you enjoy.
