《What the Green Bird Sees》March 6th - Seatherny

Seatherny (noun): the serenity you feel when listening to the birds chirp

Another few days have passed.

The little green bird felt particularly lazy today, so it didn’t budge from its perch on the back of a bench. Other than a peaceful old lady resting nearby, not many people were in the park on this sunny weekday.

A chorus of mellifluous chirps danced from above.

Through the bobbing of the tree branches in the soft breeze, the little green bird could see the bouncing bodies of several other birds. They were the songbirds, lovely singers that graced the presence of spring with their voices.

It couldn’t help but try and squeak a few notes.

The sound that emerged from the green bird’s throat was quite awkward, almost as timid as a newborn first crying into the world.

It heard someone chuckle.

Turning around, the little bird spotted the quiet old woman smiling widely at it. The numerous lines of age on her face creased as she spoke.

“Don’t worry, I like your singing.”

Oh, goodness! The little green bird almost fluffed up to twice its size. It usually didn’t pay attention to humans, even when they directly commented on the peculiar hues of its viridescent feathers, but the small compliment sent the bird head over claws with joy.

Confident and grateful, the green bird sang to her for a little while longer.
