《What the Green Bird Sees》March 2nd - Gadabout

Gadabout (noun): a person who moves aimlessly

The little boy scurried into the kitchen. Cold ceramic tiles greeted his feet but he held on tightly to the candle in his hand. Softly flickering, the little fire cast its light through his light body.

He checked the first cabinet. Nothing.

He opened the second. Nothing.

He looked through the third. The fourth. The fifth and sixth.

There was nothing in the cabinets.

The little boy paused, the candle still glowing bright in his small hands. What was he looking for again?

After several moments of hesitation, the little boy was back and looking through the wooden cabinets. Ancient blankets of thick dust draped over each compartment, yet they seemed undisturbed by his insistent checkups.

He paused. Why was he here? Where were the others?

Open, close. Open, close. The doors to each cabinet opened, closed. Neither motion made a single sound as the boy soundlessly checked the set of them again.

His hands stopped. The others? The hunger probably got to them already.

Once again, the little boy went through each and every cabinet in the kitchen, meticulously examining the empty contents that were inside. The ceramic tiles were still chilly on his little feet and the candle was still burning in his hands.

The candle was not shorter than before.

On and on, the little ghost boy repeated the last movements he performed before his death. Like all the other children of the abandoned orphanage, he tried his best to look for food in the lifeless void of a kitchen.

He paused. What was he looking for again?
