Moonbow (noun): rainbow caused by refraction or reflection of the moon

There was a heavenly archway hanging over the city tonight.

Under the unsettlingly strong glows of the soft moon, an angelic mist reflected and refracted the lunar light. The nighttime moonbow was much fainter than its counterpart, the sunny rainbow, but it retained every shade of beauty nonetheless.

However, there was no one to behold this sight.

As soon as the first ray of moonlight shone upon the seraphic water droplets, life on earth began to disappear.

First, the gentle buzzing of insects vanished from the city shrubs. The deafening silence only amplified when small birds, squirrels, and racoons faded away as well. As if a cosmic power swept an otherworldly hand through the land, mankind ceased to exist, too.

The lively atmosphere in the city was gone. In its place, was the moonbow’s divine shine, bathing the entire earth in its faint light.

Then, the plants dissipated. From the city’s streets to the nearby forest, the disappearance of bushes and shrubs and trees and grass left enormous, lifeless holes in the now-empty dirt.

The hauntingly beautiful glow of the moon’s celestial masterpiece lingered for a few moments longer, before it too vanished into nothingness.

And the city returned, as if nothing ever happened.
