Lambent (adjective): softly bright or radiant

The soft and glowing tentacles of the anemone reached again for the water’s surface, swaying with the currents but never touching the top. It waved and waved in a dream-like trance, as if waiting for someone.

It would seem like that someone was here again today.

A young girl with lovely pigtails appeared before the surface. The cherry-shaped clips in her hair looked distorted from underneath the water, but the wide grin on her face was unmistakable.

Strange yet excited syllables ran from her mouth, a youthful tone only an innocent child would have.

The anemone simply waved.

The little girl continued chatting but plopped herself down on the wooden deck. Some ripples fluttered away as her toes tipped into the water.

The anemone still waved, almost reaching further with its beautiful tentacles along the smooth current.

She stopped talking.

She bent down.

With her face much closer to the water, she began to talk again, more softly this time. Through the rippling water, her eyes seemed sad. It almost looked as if she wanted to take the anemone out of the water with her.

Without a warning, she slipped forward.

Sploosh!

As soon as the little girl fell splashing into the water, the anemone wrapped its tentacles around her in a loving embrace.
