《Survival in another world is HARD》Chapter 19

《Used skill: 『Blood magic Lvl. 3』!》
As Kurushimi’s blood sprayed out, the blood blossomed beautifully and exploded out indiscriminately in many different directions. A multitude of the blood impaled the two pullumskāls. Their attack had forced them to get close to Kurushimi. Close enough to receive the brunt of her attack.
The large spikes of blood sank deep into the pullumskāl’s flesh. The holes that had been punctured into the pullumskāls bodies caused them to bleed heavily. Then after a moment of silence, the pullumskāl’s skin was suddenly ruptured again. The pullumskāls could only squeal in pain as their skin was ruthlessly ripped apart.
《Used skill: 『Blood magic Lvl. 3』!》
‘Blood magic’ was a bit of a double-edged sword. Its strength increased the more Kurushimi bled. This allowed her to produce some very powerful attacks such as this one. And the powerful attacks only caused her targets to bleed more, allowing her to follow up with even more ‘Blood magic’, creating a deadly combo. But the prerequisite was that Kurushimi needed to be gravely injured just like this.
Kurushimi coughed up blood as the claw was dislodged from her throat. The force of her ‘Blood magic’ pushing the pullumskāl away had caused the pullumskāl’s claw to actually separate from its body and remain lodged in her throat. Kurushimi hazenly looked up at the top-right of her peripherals.
《HP: 2/38》(Currently under ‘Heavy bleeding’ status effect. 1 HP will be lost every 2 seconds until the status effect is cleansed)
She didn’t have much time. 4 seconds to be precise. As the muscles in her neck and side contracted, she flinched in pain. It was still hard to endure even with the ‘Pain resistance’ skill. Regardless, she pressed on.
Letting the condensed blood disintegrate, Kurushimi caught one of the two pullumskāls as they were falling down. Its body had been dyed red with its own blood. Its eyes were dilated.
Before she came to this world, Kurushimi would probably be disgusted by the sight. Possibly scared, possibly even feeling bad for the poor thing. But right now, Kurushimi only felt hungry. Very hungry. Kurushimi firmly gripped onto the pullumskāl with both hands and proceeded to bite down.

《Used skill: 『Fangs Lvl. 2』!》
From the holes made by Kurushimi’s sharp fangs, Kurushimi gulped down its blood. She felt chills as the warm liquid ran down her neck and into her stomach. The wounds that laid upon her neck, stomach and arm healed at incredible speeds.
Haaaa~
《Used skill: 『What’s yours is mine Lvl. 2』!》
《Gained +5 HP, +5 STR, +5 END, +7 SP +7 AGI, +5 MP!》
《You have leveled up!》

Kurushimi’s teeth retracted away from the pullumskāl. Blood, both the pullumskāls and her own, remained on her two fangs and her lips. Her pale lips and porcelain-like skin created a stark contrast with the deep crimson.
Kurushimi sighed in relief, dropping the pullumskāl and stumbling back onto the ground for a moment of rest. She slowly raised her hand and felt the spot on her neck where she had previously been impaled by the pullumskāl’s claw.
It felt leathery and rough. It had seemingly been healed, but felt strange and different from her usual soft and delicate skin. Kurushimi looked up at her HP bar again, confirming it to have reached full HP after all.
This was the first time a wound hadn’t been fully healed after reaching full HP. If what Kurushimi had guessed, that she had gained a scar was true, then the injury must have been worse than she had originally thought.
Kurushimi then lifted her shirt up, looking down at her belly. As she expected, she had a rather large mark left on her side. Kurushimi stared down at it for a few seconds. She had never gained a scar before in her life, so she felt a little weird about it.
“Well, I’m not against it…? Scars do look cool in my opinion, but… Well I guess I should have expected to get some scars in this place.”
Accepting the situation, Kurushimi stood up. Just to check, Kurushimi rolled her sleeve up to look at the arm that had been slashed by one of the pullumskāls beforehand. There was no scar left there as it seemingly hadn’t been deep enough.

Kurushimi refocused her attention back to the pullumskāls. She slowly swept the field with her eyes. Before her were all the bodies of the pullumskāls. They had all died in the end, leaving her to be the final survivor.
Kurushimi went around the pullumskāls, sucking their blood and using her unique skill ‘What’s yours is mine’ to steal their stats. Finally, she arrived at the injured pullumskāl. But much to Kurushimi’s regret, the injured pullumskāl had also died in the meantime while she was fighting the other pullumskāls.
“Ahhh, I wanted to leave one alive to experiment with…”
Kurushimi’s cruel statement was because of her original reason for coming here. She wanted to find out the method for obtaining the ‘Camouflage’ skill. When she had tried to learn it earlier, she had been denied as she didn’t have the ‘requirement’.
But that ‘requirement’ was hidden and the system wouldn’t tell her. So her only lead on the skill was that the pullumskāls had it, so it should have something to do with them.
Kurushimi walked up to one of the more intact pullumskāl bodies. Although the majority of the bodies were far from ‘intact’. Kurushimi felt she really should have taken more care in at least preserving a body but at the same time, she could have very easily died and she very nearly did die. So she couldn’t afford to be picky.
“I’ve already killed and eaten a pullumskāl before… So those aren’t going to be the requirement.”
Kurushimi poked the pullumskāl, feeling its hard scales against her fingertip. She stared at the scales for a second until a voice suddenly spoke up.
“It seems that the ‘Camouflage skill’ would have something to do with their scales. I would suggest experimenting with the scales to find the hidden requirement.”
“Ah, that does make sense!”
Voice-san suggested that the ‘Camouflage’ skill could have something to do with its scales. Though they were hard, they weren’t really hard enough to work as armour or anything like that. So it would make sense for the reason being that the ‘Camouflage’ skill is from their scales. But Kurushimi didn’t really know what to do with the scales…
Kurushimi slowly peeled a scale off the pullumskāls skin. It had a shiny and beautiful reflective surface.
“I have an idea…”
“What is it?”
“I eat it!”
“Wha- There’s no way that will work!”
As Voice-san shouted in disbelief at Kurushimi’s absurd idea, Kurushimi held the scale above her with her mouth wide open. Without an ounce of hesitation, she let go of the scale and dropped it into her mouth.
Kurushimi had already eaten the pullumskāl before and ruled out the possibility that eating it was the requirement. But when Kurushimi ate the pullumskāl, she had not eaten its scales. So the first thing Kurushimi thought of was to eat it. Without chewing it, Kurushimi swallowed the scale whole.
“...There’s no way that will be it.”
Kurushimi didn’t talk for a few seconds after she consumed the scale. Voice-san watched on nervously, waiting for Kurushimi to speak.
《Currently you have 900 skill points.》
《The skill 『Camouflage Lvl. 1』can be acquired by spending 400 skill points.》
《Do you want to acquire it?》
Unexpectedly, the system spoke for Kurushimi. The system had only said that 400 skill points were required but maybe it wouldn’t work when Kurushimi tried to acquire it. Voice-san furrowed her eyebrows. Well, Voice-san does not have a body and therefore couldn't furrow her eyebrows but she attempted to do so mentally at least.
“Yep, acquire it.”
《『Camouflage Lvl. 1』 was acquired. Remaining skill points 500》
“It worked~”
Kurushimi nonchalantly spoke to Voice-san after successfully acquiring the skill. Voice-san didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Voice-san? ...You there?”
Kurushimi continued to try and talk with Voice-san. But Voice-san didn’t respond. Instead she chose to pretend she wasn’t there as she currently didn’t want to talk to Kurushimi.

The Fire Within Can Be Scary
In a fantasy world similar to ours, magic worked similarly to physics, with each elemental spirit magic being tied to a state of matter. Earth is solid.Water is liquidAir is gas.Fire is plasma. Four elements, four states of matter. However in the ancient world of Hitarea, "Plasma" hadn't been discovered yet. The people of this world believe that only three states of matter existed, and thus, only three elemental magic could exist. For years, Earth, Water, and Air stood alone as the three main elements from which all others originated. Advanced arts like metal from earth, or Ice from water were only extensions of their original element . . . so what does that make Fire? Fire is powerful as the earth with its mighty explosions, flexible like water as it writhes around in the air, and swift like the wind. All at the same time. Fire, in regards to combat, is the most powerful element by far. This fearsome power is Alden's to master, but this power is a double-edged sword. One shouldn't play around with fire if you don't want to be burned. The fire within can be scary, you know?
