《Travels along the Astral Road》Challenge II

Wu Guang did not pay attention to anything around him after hearing the permission to start and so simply advanced and touched the door. Seemingly there was indeed some kind of sensing runes engraved on it as he felt a foreign and non-natural qi sweep over him. Unsurprisingly the door opened after the scanning was done and so Wu Guang entered the corridor that lay behind the door.
The corridor did not really change from what he remembered, as, after all, he had chosen the same central door during the disciple-in-waiting test. His memories also remembered the places where the first traps were located and albeit they would be changed as the difficulty for a body cultivator and a spirit cultivator was obviously different, he was pretty sure that the main locations could not be changed easily.
The first traps were fairly easy to spot and were almost the same as during the test. Granted, they were far better hidden and required close observation to avoid, but similarly, Wu Guang was far better prepared for them.
From his last visit, he knew that there were 6 rooms connected with corridors as this and so his thoughts were mostly about the matter of which traps could be present in them to require so much time to pass. This came from the fact that the distance he had walked during the test to reach the rune-plate was about five miles and so could not take one more than two hours even with normal traps present.
As Wu Guang reached the room where previously he had encountered the hardest challenge, which was the beast room, he found it unchanged. Though this time the central panel that activated the challenge and let out the beast was replaced for a normal one and so Wu Guang concluded that crossing the room itself was the challenge, after all, the central of the three gates was open and seemingly did not require to do anything to be entered.
Wu Guang concentrated and carefully examined the floor, walls, and roof of the room and by luck or because he was right in expecting that each room would test a single sense, he managed to find a clue. This clue was located on the opposite side of the room and was so small that required him to infuse qi to barely discern the contents.
Thankfully as it was already located, Wu Guang managed to understand that it was a map and after spending a quarter of an hour or so without moving he, at last, managed to copy all the details into his mind.
His decision of not moving until he found the challenge turned out to be right as the map or plan was basically the route he would need to follow towards the exit. Still, to be sure of it, Wu Guang took out a piece of charcoal from the small pile that came with the expedition supplies, which he did not take out of the pouch. The test confirmed that indeed the room was full of traps because as soon the piece landed on a stone tile outside the route it activated a trap. The trap was simple but effective as the tile simply turned over, letting the piece of charcoal fall into a pit hidden below it and then resumed its normal position.

Seemingly the route indicated the safe manner to cross the room, but still, as Wu Guang started moving he decided to act with caution and so took out his short spear. He used it to check each next tile before advancing. Although in the end this proved to be unneeded and made him lose a bit of time, he still considered that such a loss was far better than the alternative.
The corridor leading to the next room was a bit shorter than the previous and similarly had several traps. Wu Guang evaded them without problems and so arrived into the room without a problem.
This room test would probably entail either hearing or smell as the room itself was separated into three passages which were full of mist. This thought proved to be correct as this time there was a small instruction written near the gate which read
"To pass this challenge, the cultivator will have to choose the safest mist to travel in. Inside nothing can be seen, heard, touched, but danger can be smelled..."
Reading this and examining every mist took Wu Guang a few moments and thanks to the number of different experiences he had inside his memories, he instantly found out that one of the mists had a sleeping drug mixed into it while another one had had a paralysis one.
Normally it would take a few minutes to discern the foreign smell, but Wu Guang could recognize several dozens if not hundreds of similar drugs, medicines, pills, and poisons.
And so this room was passed through in 5 minutes. Adding them to the 15 of the first passage, 20 of the first room, and 12 for the second passage, Wu Guang had for now used only 52 minutes of the 360 he had.
The third passage was a copy of the second one and so Wu Guang arrived at the next room in under 10 minutes. The door to the room was closed and instructions were written on it. One could read
"The true key will be heard"
And under it, there was something like a precaution added which read
"One fake will stop the sound, two fake will stop the light, three fake will destroy the true one, and beware as true danger lurks in the dark and soundless room"
Before entering Wu Guang analyzed the contents and came to the conclusion that the warning meant that he had three tries to choose the right key. But the parts about sound and light meant that a failed attempt would make the following one harder, so in reality, he had to get the true key before the second failure, as without light, opening a lock would be practically impossible without being used to the room or having the ability to see in the dark. But both cases did not apply to the current him.

After entering the door he was met with a room where at least a hundred keys were laying on the floor. Each of them produced a different sound that went from something like a bell to the roar of a beast. Such amount of different sounds formed a clamor in which separating one sound was practically impossible, or at least it would be if someone did not reach the 1st level of the Hearing Sense. Thankfully Wu Guang had and so he could discern the different sounds, but the first part of the message said that the true key will be heard and so he supposed that there was some indication to what sound he was required to find.
Such an indication was indeed present and he found it pretty easily after examining the lock on the opposite side door. It was a small drawing that after some observation Wu Guang concluded to be a rat. And so after making sure about the drawing Wu Guang simply walked around the room while both carefully avoiding touching or stepping onto any keys and concentrating on discerning the nearest key sound. In such a manner it took him a dozen minutes to find a key that had a squeak-like sound and as there were no similar-sounding ones, Wu Guang concluded it was the right one.
In any case, Wu Guang mentally noted down the location of each sound he had heard in case the key was a fake one and only then he picked it up. Luckily he was right and the key turned out to be the right one as the door was opened and he was allowed to proceed.
Before starting to walk the fourth passage Wu Guang carefully closed the door he had just crossed as from his understanding it should be sound-proof and indeed it was the case. Actually, he could decide not to do it, but hearing such a cacophony of sound was by far not nice and he still had other challenges to complete. Speaking of the latter, Wu Guang arrived at the next room in under ten minutes as well and this time he encountered a puzzle or trap meant to be solved with the sense of taste.
Such challenges were both puzzles and extremely dangerous traps in his memory. And as soon as he approached and read the description that was present, it was confirmed.
"One drop is safe, two are not. Drink a full cup and the path will open"
Immediately Wu Guang recalled the classical riddle of the old man's poison, in which an old hermit would offer two vials, one of which would kill you while the other would grant immortality. It was actually just a small variant of the life and death doors, but in the current case meant for the sense of taste and not luck.
Another difference would be that there were four cups present and all of them were filled up with an identical murky substance, not giving the clues present in the riddle as color and smell. In any case, to make sure, Wu Guang carefully observed each cup and then smelled each of them. "As expected, even with trained senses I can not find any difference. So it's down to the taste. Hmm, I doubt that some kind of rare poison would be used as no inner disciple could be an expert in them, so most probably it's some kind of drug that comes from the same materials as common medicines".
Time was precious as he still did not know what he would encounter further and so Wu Guang cleared his mind and proceeded to carefully scoop a small amount from each cup using a small spoon that he took out from his holding pouch.
After tasting the four Wu Guang found out that all of them were pretty similar but at the same time had a small difference. Such a difference would be present in the case that the same ingredients were used but the dosage was different. Thankfully Wu Guang even without his memories had studied potion recipes and if using the former had knowledge of about ten thousand different ingredients, so it only took him a brief moment to find out the ingredients used.
Surprisingly it turned to be the same as the ingredients for the blood potion which was basically the same as the blood pill and served to quicken the healing of wounds. "So the sect has someone who dabbles with potions? I thought it was a relic of the past even on this plane, as if it was not so, why there are absolutely no mentions of potions at all? Something else was mixed to make it murky and change the color, but this is a blood potion and its variants for sure. Leaving that aside, I have not yet done the potion, and neither I have tried it at any time, but judging from the ingredients taste and proportion the safe one is the third one I tried".
