《Travels along the Astral Road》Tournament II

This impression about his first opponent was quickly confirmed. Not bothering to even observe Wu Guang's weapons or stance, this disciple rushed forward with an overhead slash. Such an attack could be dodged by almost any trained martial arts practitioner not to say a cultivator like Wu Guang. But in place of dodging, Wu Guang lunged forward, to meet the opponent. Directly crashing into his opponent, with the impact making the attacker lose his balance. Not giving any chance to recover, Wu Guang circled around and landed a clean hit with the training sword on the back of the opponent, knocking him out.
Finishing his first encounter, Wu Guang scanned the area. Noticing a pair of slightly stronger and experienced opponents rushed towards them. But before he could reach them he was attacked. This time his attacker was fairly experienced, but even so, he did not last more than the previous one.
As the attacker's polearm was practically shoved into his path Wu Guang reacted at the last moment and managed to evade by jumping to the right. As he landed his short spear exploded into a flurry of attacks, catching his opponent unprepared. And while his opponent moved backward to break off from the range of the spear and get enough time to assume a stance, Wu Guang did not let him do so and pressed forward. Using the spear as a staff to sweep and distract the opponent while the sword knocked the trident out of his path Wu Guang closed the distance and landed a straight kick towards the abdomen.
And as he needed to make sure that the opponent is taken out with a single attack, Wu Guang used his 'Flaming Kick' to reach the desired effect.
Extinguishing the technique and noticing that the pair he targetted had moved away Wu Guang spent a few breaths observing the overall situation. From there he selected a group of disciples entangled into a small version of this chaotic battle and rushed towards them.
Although he called them a group in truth it wasn't more than three pairs of opponents. But as they had moved close to each other, the individual battles were slowly becoming chaotic. From the six disciples there was only one who felt at least somewhat dangerous. Still, Wu Guang's speedy approach was unnoticed even by her. The other ones did not react to it as well, which again confirmed Wu Guang's opinion of the Sect disciples being too inexperienced.

Wu Guang crashed into the group. He had confirmed that neither of them had real combat experience, so surprising them and breaking their concentration was the best way to start.
Wu Guang internally understood the motives behind the lack of experience. This lack came from the fact that no Outer disciples had any way to obtain it at all. While when they broke through and became Inner circle ones, opportunities were pretty scarce. They could only gain some via missions and tournaments like this. Which in the end could be detrimental, as there were no real life or death challenges or dangers. And without these, no real cultivator would grow.
Fully understanding this, Wu Guang capitalized on this lack of experience. Currently, he was not much stronger than them, while the time passed was not enough for anyone to tire off. So his wins were because he knew what and how to do, and did not get easily distracted. Adding the fact that his mind and reactions were far quicker because of the passive effect he had from the consciousness. It was no surprise that he appeared so superior to the rest.
The battle against this group who turned their attention to him as he appeared in the middle of them went as expected. They were still trying to react while Wu Guang had already jumped at the nearest two. Knocking out one with a lunge of the spear, Wu Guang's attention turned to the other nearby opponent.
His other target managed to half-block his sword, but still, she was pushed back. It was the same female that he thought of as the most experienced in this group, and seemingly he was right.
The sword was dull and so although she did not block the attack fully, she ended only with a bruise or two on her arm.
The fact that a person had fallen and another was pushed back made the group react. Still, they were scared of going one on one against them, so after a brief moment, the four rushed towards Wu Guang while shouting. Regretfully for them, the difference between having experience and not was a deciding factor. Especially in a battle between equal or similar strength cultivators.
They weren't very near and could not pose a threat as neither of them seemed a leader, so Wu Guang matched their speed and moved towards the right. He wasn't running, but he wanted to first finish off the female disciple. After all, she was trying to retreat from battle after being hit.

It did not take more than a moment for him to appear in front of her. Neither of the disciples had full control over their speed as Wu Guang did, so in truth during the fight, everyone was using the normal mortal speed. Well, everyone except Wu Guang, who was infusing a tenth of the usual into his legs and so was at least twice quicker. The female disciple was armed with a small saber, which she placed before her, preparing to meet Wu Guang's attack. Wu Guang repeated the same combination as before, by using the sword to block the saber and the spear for a distraction he activated the flaming kick on his left leg and kicked her. He wasn't sure that she lost her consciousness as she flew back while holding her weapon, but in any case, for the moment she was out of combat. And so he turned towards the four disciples that were now only a dozen feet away from him.
Dealing with this four was even simpler. As expected from newly ascended inner disciples they did not train any qi technique enough as to activate it instantly. Wu Guang decided to not give them any time to prepare a technique, and so rushed while maintaining the 'Flaming Kick' active. Seeing that one of them was about to do something, Wu Guang threw his spear, successfully distracting him. And utilizing this distraction, approached and kicked. As expected, the results were obvious, the disciple was sent flying, while the other three were frozen in place. In truth, if they attacked Wu Guang right at this moment, they would have at least a chance of hitting him. Still, without any real experience, how could they maintain a clear mind after looking at an opponent who spent only a few movements to deal with three of them?
Wu Guang's manner of fighting could be said to be risky, but in truth, it wasn't so. Considering the small difference in actual strength, he relied not on it but on strategy. He was constantly calculating the reactions and possible thoughts of his opponents. And as he knew they had no experience or tempering, he was sure of when they would sense fear, freeze, or on the contrary attack recklessly. All this was helped by the fact that he was not compassionate at all, and they saw it. Every hit landing was at full strength and intending to incapacitate instantly.
Two of the three even tried to run going so far as to infuse qi into their legs. But their maximum speed was a bit lower when compared to Wu Guang. And even it was the same as the situation was for most cultivators of the Spirit realm, they still would need to react with equal speed. Something that they could not, so Wu Guang did not give them more than a few moments of ease before reaching and knocking them out with an attack from behind. Thankfully for them, there were several people from the Medicine Hall present in the arena so even when he was going a bit overboard, they should be okay at the end. It wasn't that he wanted to go overboard, but there was a big difference between a practically standing attack and an attack with the same strength but made with a speed ten times the normal.
The last disciple did not try to run and so Wu Guang thought that the former had decided to fight him earnestly. Such sentiment should be met with respect and so he returned to the previous area and prepared to fight. But as he observed his opponent, Wu Guang noticed that the guy was not standing there from bravery... He was simply unconscious. Wu Guang did not know if this was provoked by fear of being hit or by some other reason, but as his objective was to win, simply knocked the guy to the ground.
After confirming that the six were considered taken out by throwing a glance at the nearest observer, which nodded in confirmation, Wu Guang scouted the arena again. Not finding anything that caught his interest. He decided to avoid moving for now. And so remained standing still, albeit with his guard unlowered.

Doctored Chance: The Unpleasant Preceding of "Pajama Boy" and What Drove Him to Murder
I, Mick Chadwick, regret to inform my readers that this memoir contains nothing but the truth, which in the case of Tobias MacClain, most ridiculed as Pajama Boy, is far from pleasant. If you seek to relate to a hero more than to aspire to them and have the stomach for unpleasant things such as a hero left for dead, villainous scars, bomb threats, and murderous intent, then look no further. All of these gruesome things and more await from my research, and though I do not wish them on any man or woman, I cannot bear this burden on my own much longer. In the words of Tobias MacClain himself, "Sometimes, a villainous act can cause the greatest good." I hope that all my villainous acts of sneaking, blackmailing, diary-reading, and grave-digging, among others, will be redeemed as I present this complete and truthful memoir to the world, and with any luck, open eyes to the truth of what we call "villainy". Doctored Chance: The Unpleasant Preceding of "Pajama Boy" and What Drove Him to Murder ********* MATURE FILTER IS FOR:- violence- graphic imagery (blood, burns, fairly dark headspaces)- cartoon depiction of burn scars for visual aid Despite graphics, Mick Chadwick's writing keeps Mr. MacClain's terrible tale light somehow. This is foremostly a comedy.
