《Travels along the Astral Road》Combat II

Six spearmen while hiding behind their shields started nearing the tunnel wall, Wu Guang did not shoot at them, considering that it would be only a waste of arrows. What he did was to send another arrow at the lightly wounded swordsman, but the latter hid behind the spearmen, so the arrow did not have any effect.
The spearmen reached the wall in no time, but now there was a ten feet wall that they needed to scale, as the first one took his spear into his shield hand and climbed, Wu Guang still didn't shoot, the spearmen had too much armor for the arrow to do them any damage and the angle would dissipate most of the arrow force anyway.
So his strategy was different, he had made a show of retreating into the tunnel alongside Duqi, to make them climb quicker and with less precaution.
In truth, he just lied down so they would not see him, and as the first spearman hand latched on the platform's edge, he quickly slashed with the other hunting knife he had.
Practically losing his hand, the spearmen fell down on the heads of the other spearmen waiting below.
"FUCK! Hiding and slashing me! I almost lost my hand!" roared the injured spearmen after his brief flight as an explanation to the others.
Wu Guang without turning shouted to Duqi
"Follow the tunnel, find Xiao Feng. I will stop them here"
But before Duqi could even take a few steps, he almost bumped into his target.
"Brother Wu, what's happening?" Xiao Feng was calm, but when he spoke a slight worry could be heard.
"Brother Xiao! We are under attack, Cui Li is fighting an expert, while we are fending a bunch of non-cultivator soldiers"
"Cui An remained in the tower because of some person knocking on the entrance door, seemed important so I went back first. Anyways, I alone should be enough to overturn the situation" Saying this, he carefully stepped over the laying clansmen and prisoners, and then without hiding closed Wu Guang, who stood up to meet him. After slapping the latter on the shoulder Xiao Feng without any care took out his folding spear, infused it with qi so it unfolded, and jumped down.
He fell right in midst of the seven men below, with simple pokes, but made with the speed and strength boosted by qi he finished off the six spearmen before they even could react. Surprisingly, the swordsman not only reacted but also dodged the spear.

"Hmm? I wonder who you may be, that you have been hiding the fact that you are a cultivator and letting these guys die?" Xiao Feng spoke in a voice filled with curiosity
"Heh, now that they are dead, there's no need for me to hide it anymore, is there?" The swordsman that was silent until now answered with a smirk.
Then he jumped forwards with his sword aimed at Xiao Feng's face. The speed of this attack wasn't lower than the speed of Xiao Feng's, it could even be quicker by a small margin.
Luckily, Xiao Feng had sensed that the opponent was a cultivator of a similar level to his, so he was on guard from the moment he spoke. Sidestepping to evade the sword's point directed to his face, he made a wide swing with his spear. Although the opponent evaded the wavy feet-long blade of the spear, he had moved away to where his sword could not reach Xiao Feng.
Using this opportunity to unleash a combination of pokes and sweeps while being safe from counterattacks, Xiao Feng started pressing his opponent to the center of the tunnel.
On the other side, Cui Li's fight was continuing as before. Although he had not managed to injure his opponent yet, neither his opponent had injured Cui Li again. Sensing that his opponent was tired, Cui Li also pressed on, forcing his opponent to retreat backward.
The victory was seeming siding with the Sect's disciples until the swordsman retreated from Xiao Feng's reach by infusing qi into his legs and jumping backward. The black-robed expert mimicked this, and so both of them landed one near the other. Their landing point was exactly at the center of the tunnel, and near them, both of the lanterns that the Swordsmen carried and put down on the ground when the fight started were seen. As if that was their goal, each one of them kicked one of the lanterns, breaking them and engulfing the tunnel in darkness.
"Shit!" Wu Guang was the first to react. He had guessed from the sudden attacks and mediocre dueling skills of the opponents that they should be practicing some kind of assassination skills, and the most common knowledge that anyone had about assassins was - darkness is their ally.
"Brother Xiang, Brother Cui! The guys should be assassins, be careful!" He shouted while letting his normally hidden Saint realm senses scan the nearest one hundred feet. Normally a Saint realm cultivator could sense anything a mile around him, and when expanding their consciousness, their senses reached over ten miles.

But Wu Guang had to conceal his strengthened soul and consciousness, so he normally fully suppressed his senses. Now that there was a real danger to him and the people he had met, he decided to use them, although limiting to a hundred feet. At this distance, he was sure that there were no Soul Realm experts that could feel the scan.
While doing this, his mind was racing to formulate a plan that would both solve the situation at hand, and not reveal the truth or arouse suspicions about him. After arriving at not the optimal, but the safest way out, he controlled his senses to mark and follow both of the assassins. He waited until one of them entered Xiao Feng's attack range and loudly shouted
"Brother Xiao! On your left two feet from you!"
Xiao Feng who was cautiously guarding his vitals with the spear did not think much about why Wu Guang seemingly saw the assassin, following the instructions he swept his spear on a wide arch towards his left. He felt that the hit had connected, and a slight grunt was heard.
"You wounded him!" Hearing this, Xiao Feng returned the spear to a guarding position and decided to wait for the next instruction. The wavy blade was bloody, and he heard blood dripping from it down to the floor.
"Brother Cui! From your back!"
Cui Li didn't think much either, he hated sneak attacks and dirty fighting with all his soul. This fight was the epitome of everything he hated, so full of fury he turned around while sweeping his club. This sweep contained all his anger and was powered by almost the maximum amount of qi he could infuse into his muscles. The club encountered the sword of one of the assassins while mid-swing, but the sword attack was meant to be sneaky and could not compare to Cui Li's full power. After a metallic clang and some sparks, the sword was torn off from the assassin's hand and flew out. Only after a few breaths that Cui Li used to release a flurry of quick blows while moving in the direction of the attacker something metallic hitting stone was heard.
Cui Li's flurry did not have any success, as his attacker retreated to a safe distance and was standing there.
The other one tried to attack Xiao Feng again, but Wu Guang who was monitoring each of their movements quickly reacted, and Xiao Feng not only blocked but also managed to land a hit with the pole of his spear.
After a pause, in which both assassins were standing far away from the disciples a raspy voice that could be attributed to the black-clothed assassin was heard
"Retreat!"
"Don't run you, cowards!" Cui Li was full of anger and he wanted to vent it up by clubbing the assassins to death
"Brother Wu, did they retreat?" Xiao Feng was a lot calmer, and he really did not want to continue this strange fight in the darkness anymore.
Wu Guang after carefully sensing the area said
"I don't see them anymore, they ran to the north and disappeared. Let's regroup in case if they decide to do something else. Brother Xiao, you are five feet from the tower's tunnel entrance, go to your right until you hit the wall. Brother Cui, walk until you reach the wall on your left, and then follow it moving right until you bump into Brother Xiao. And both of you, don't trip with the dead spearmen"
Only after both of them arrived under the tower's tunnel ledge, pushed aside the bodies lying there and there was seemingly no danger, Xiao Feng asked
"Brother Wu, how did you?"
"It's something that I have been able to do from when I was born. To see in the dark. I just never told anyone about it, some people in Coastal Hill City where I was born always talked of this trait as something hinting at demons"
"I don't know anything about what they talked about, but if someone told me that you are a demon after you saved my hide I would kick him to death personally" Cui Li said in a tone that didn't leave doubts that he would.
"I will second that. Hahaha" Laughed Xiao Feng
"Let's wait for my older brother. He will bring a light, and we will finish the task of moving these inconsiderate people who can only lay unconscious while we are being killed" Cui Li as the oldest and most advanced cultivator present decided.
"Oh, Brother Wu, how's my friend Duqi?" Xiao Feng suddenly asked
"He should be fine, I told him to go to the tower after you started fighting, he wasn't useful here, I thought he could at least explain the situation to the ones in the tower"
"Yes, Yes. Explain, fully, in perfect common" Said Xiao Feng seriously and then the three of them started laughing.
