Over the next ten years, Johnathan Bennard became one of the most successful men on Earth. Many articles were written about the lottery winner that could do no wrong. Even while he was losing money in one area, he was recuperating those losses elsewhere. Young entrepreneurs loved him and wanted to be like him. The older more seasoned power-seekers were the individuals Johnathan had been worried about for good reason.
In a closed room deep under Washington DC, in a hypothetically secure room from electronic bugging of any kind, a group of men and women sat around a table they’d been summoned to by a woman standing at the head of the table cloaked in shadows.
“We did a study on him five years ago. What has changed?” one of the men sitting at the table said on the woman’s right. “Our security assets are losing track of him more and more,” he said.
“Lose track, what do you mean,” she asked.
“Let me explain, he travels, ends up where his itinerary says he’s supposed to be, then disappears for hours. We believe he might have been successful,” a second man sitting next to the first said.
` “Successful?” the woman cloaked in shadows asked, “Are you telling me that you believe he has a working wormhole?”
There was silence for a moment, then the first man to speak said, “Yes.”
“Response Recommendation?” she asked
“Acquisition of technology, Termination of the target,” the second man said.
“Agreed,” said the first man to speak
“Agreed,” said a third, fourth, fifth, and sixth man simultaneously.
“Send in the asset. If he leaves his home tonight, Angel Fire is authorized,” she said.
“Yes Ma’am,” the first man said.

The people around the table dispersed, calls were made, and we watched and followed each transaction. I now had a name, but it was far easier to think of myself as we. We spread out and discovered Angel Fire in orbit, then took steps to ensure Johnathan’s safety. We also kept track of the chain of calls that went out to relay orders to the asset. After some data mining, we found the asset's true name and identity as well as his personal history. The asset’s motivation was simple, he was being paid an exuberant amount of money to perform a task he had no moral issues with. It might be interesting to witness events from that perspective. Learning about humanity was still one of my primary functions. As we had done many times in the past we designated a portion of ourselves to monitor and report on the movements and actions of one specific human.

A D&D Gamer in Garweeze Wurld
He doesn't know how he got here, and while the trappings are familiar, he doesn't actually know where he is, either. From the perspective of those around him, Duromar is a half-ogre barbarian, an uncivilized brute by any standard you care to use. But from his perspective, he's a character created in a gaming system. From either one, he must live within the rules of that system. This is the story of a gamer who ends up in a game that's just a bit off from what he knows. ---- I wanted to write something a little bit old-school. Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.
