《Ashes of Empires》Chapter 131 - Gathering Point

Kaden hunted down whatever remaining Sacronan's soldiers he found, but it was hardly an effort anymore. Saints were not giving any mercy. Also he was left alone. Kaden guessed no one simply wanted to work directly with him. It was entirely normal.
Therefore Kaden had more time for more personal things. Such as taking a bite or two from Sacronan's soldiers.
"Hmmm, I have been noticing some behavioral changes over time", Kaden thought to himself. "I wonder if I'm becoming more like beast over time. Beasts make sense more, but becoming one completely would make my revenge more difficult."
Not that he was intending to stop himself despite his thoughts. If it came to that, it was nowhere near that yet. Even if he could not stop himself becoming beast completely, if it even was going to happen to begin with, there were still possible actions left. Such as simply keep growing stronger. This always seemed a good solution.
While Kaden was enjoying the butchering, Trian finally got a connection back to mainland.
"Report", a voice said to Trian.
"High inquisitor, the remnant is lost", Trian replied. "Though I have difficulties remembering the fact or why we came here to begin with. The remnant has been unmade."
Trian continued his report.
"Shame", high inquisitor replied once Trian was done. "Despite the setbacks, it will no longer matter. It seems the great remnant in Murika is about to open. Within a very short time. We believe we have gathered enough information from the remnants this time. It should be enough."
"Then what are my orders?" Trian asked.
"Finish up what you are doing", replied the high inquisitor. "Once you have secured the area, leave only a small group there to keep watch on it. The rest of you should go to western shores. There is a gathering point there where transportation across the sea is being set up."
"So no changes on my orders on that part", Trian replied.
"Correct", high inquisitor replied. "You will receive next orders once you are on Murika. Any questions?"
"None, except that I would add little details that might could be of interest", Trian said. "I believe inquisitor Weils's mission ended up failure at the end, yes? Everyone dead due to an ambush from the beasts. It seems there have been survivors... that somehow ended up here."
"Hmmm? Speak", the high inquisitor questioned.
"I ran into a mutant right here. He says he was scouting the remnant, which might as well be true, but the problem being he was exactly here", Trian said. "He said he was part of Weils's team and came here to hide after running into problems on the way back. His report was questionable the very least. I'm sending it too now."
The high inquisitor was silent for a moment as he received Trian's report.

"So there were survivors after all, a mutant and a single expendable mercenary", he said. "I agree they might have discovered something that they did not give to Weils, but that matters no longer. Have the mutant be part of the group going to Murika. He has no connections left in Corand anymore. The elite team he was part of no longer exists. We might as well make its last remaining member disapear too. Only very few people should survive the remant in Murika."
"As you will", Trian replied.
"If you find the mercenary, send her too", high inquisitor added. "Give her extra payment, if needed. Though it matters little what they found, I would have any loose ends closed."
"I will ask the mutant about it", Trian replied.
"Anything else to add?" High inquisitor asked.
"None", Trian replied.
"Then proceed", high inquisitor told Trian and ended the connection.
Trian frowned for a moment, but then left.
Only about half an hour later things had calmed down. Kaden had no longer seen Nosran nor his zombies or other minions around. It seemed he didn't wish to have anything to do with saints. Kaden didn't intend to change this. Nosran was a sensible person. Too few of those around.
As Kaden was sitting down and burning the rations he had been able to receive from the saints, he watched and observed things happening around him.
Kaden frowned slightly as he watched soldiers be placed around the void and search the area.
"Hopefully Emina and elves hid the entrance well", Kaden though to himself. "Then again, it seems Trian is in a hurry. We aren't settling down here properly. We are leaving soon. This is good."
Speaking of Trian. He was coming.
"I have received your new orders", Trian told Kaden. "You are to join me for now. We will be going to Murika."
Kaden frowned a bit more, but then it turned to smile. Just as Emina had expected. Both sides were probably going to just throw people at the great dungeon and hope for the best. Still, there was no underestimating a great remnant. It would likely be dangerous. Still, there were also benefits to be gained.
"Of course", Kaden replied nodding.
"Do you know anything about the mercenary that survived with you?" Trian asked.
"She is around on Brit somewhere", Kaden replied. "That is all I know."
They were interested in Emina too? This didn't actually surprise Kaden that much. He wasn't planning on aiding or hindering Emina in anyway. She could handle herself and whatever the elves wanted.
Since he was apparently going with Trian now, Kaden settled down for the time being. There wasn't much else to do than cultivate. He couldn't even actually start eating remains of Weils in middle of saint soldiers. That was the bad part. There was probably not going to be such moment in a while.

Kaden sighed. Just a bit more time and perhaps he could have attempted to advance. Extra cultivation could probably refine whatever mana he was holding, but it would only increase his success chance and efficiency. Still, he did not wish to do so in front of people. His next advancement would be from mid Formation stage to advanced. At the same time he would advance his core too.
There was no telling what could be sensed by others.
"I'll just have to wait", Kaden muttered to himself.
It couldn't be helped so Kaden turned his thoughts to other matters. He wondered for a moment how, whether it was Saint Empire or Sacronan, were planning on getting troops across the sea to Murika. The sea was dangerous.
While the people living there were very self sufficient, there obviously there were ways. It involved ships with formations intended to hide them from most undersea beasts. Long range gliders existed too, but they consumed quite a bit of crystals which was costly. Neither of these were going to get large amount of troops over safely.
Kaden was actually rather interested, but pushed aside the thoughts as he continued cultivating.
Somewhere during next day, saint soldiers gathered up whatever they could loot from Sacronan's stores. It seemed Trian was not going to wait around. This was good. Wasting time was pointless.
With the extra supplies along, aside from a small group left to the remnant to keep watch on the void, saints left towards west.
Kaden planned on remembering Brit. Despite its remoteness, there were oportunities. Interesting people, such as Nosran, who Kaden felt was worth respect. The elves could perhaps be used. All such things. He had also gained two more of the black fragments.
All in all. The detour had been very fruitfull!
On the way towards the western shore, Kaden almost expected Sacronan to try slow down the saint troops, but no such thing happened. Could it be that their leaders had disapeared into the void and no one in Sacronan actually could properly remember that they had sent someone to Brit? All the major construction had also disapeared. No one would remember that either. If this was the case, Sacronan might be having some confusion regarding the matter. It would take some time before they even notice something odd was going on.
"How lucky", Kaden muttered as he continue forward.
It was also possible Saint Empire had sent too many people on Brit that Sacronan, without commiting lot of forces, wouldn't be able to stop it. Kaden noticed on the way more troops from Saint Empire. It seemed Brit was indeed the chosen point where they would send their army to Murika.
Soon the troops were everywhere. They had arrived at the shore. Kaden saw no ships nor gliders or any other means of travel, but answer to the question of transportation method was soon answered.
There were several True Magi building an enormous teleportation formation!
While Kaden could not go take a closer look, he could do so from far away. He was excited to see such a high ranked formation being built on such scale. It went beyond his understanding and he expected he was basically not even seeing portion of it. He had heard spatial formations such as those used for teleportation were built partially on higher dimensions.
It would be costly to use such formation, but either in one or several uses, it could send the army over quickly. It was seen as price worth paying.
"Hmmmm", Kaden then thought. "Sending people back? They wouldn't bother building another there. It is unlikely there are enough people on the other side. There is likely only some receiver area, if this formation even requires an end point. I think they aren't expecting many to come back. This is a one way trip. The method to come back, if any are expected, is likely far more meager in comparison."
At any rate, Kaden was pretty interested in higher formations. Such as spatial bags and such. Teleportation was another.
While transportation magic was not Kaden's expertise, he knew that sort of magic did have its uses beyond certain point. Usually such magic was used on personal level, not as formations. No one built vehicles either that would go beyond certain speeds since it actually became inefficient. It had something to do with how space was structured.
A True Magus could move at extremely high speeds, but if they did so, space itself would slow them down. Someone expending far less energy to move at slower speed would travel similar distance only slightly slower. Apparently someone had traveled around the world measuring its size and got significantly different result each time depending on the path they took.
Its was believed to have been that way since the cataclysm. Mana did things to space.
This problem was far from something Kaden should have been concerned about, though. He would have to be a True Magus to hit such speeds.
A teleportation formation would skip this problem. It just took a long time to build.
"If there are any Sacronan's troops waiting at Murika, they are going to have a bad day when saints basically just appear on top of them", Kaden thought to himself. "That is if they are going to even waste the effort. They might want to preserve troops for the remnant."
Kaden had very little to do except observe and wait. No one wanted to interact with him nor there was much to do. It was likely the troops were going to be sent over to Murika as soon as the formation was functional. He was ready whenever.
