《MY Life In The Multiverse》Chapter 15: Finding your answer

While they were being taken by the cops for a quick interrogation about what happened as they were directly involved in this incident, Yuki decided to check the notification he missed from the system when he passed out.
[Quest: Bully the bullies (completed)]
[Host overperformed by using a weak body to beat two of the assailants, one of them armed with a knife and plant fear in the heart of the third, and also caused extensive damage to one of them by breaking his arm mercilessly. Additional rewards will be added]
[Accept rewards: Yes/No]
'This is great, I won't be cursed by this stinky system and stay a virgin for the rest of my life and I'm even going to receive additional rewards because of the disadvantage I had from the condition of my body and my extreme actions, it seems this system isn't completely helpless' he thought in delight excited at what the additional rewards are going to be. However, he decided not to accept it for now as the addition of 0.5 in strength would cause visible changes to his body and he didn't want the people around me to see them in real-time...
But then his face crumbled as he realized a certain truth 'It seems like this system is trying to push me into acting in a certain way, and I don't think I'm liking it so far, it seems like it wants me to undertake dangerous tasks and tempt me with better rewards… not to mention the ways it's using to achieve its goals with all those dangerous punishments... is this an evil system?' Yuki started feeling worried at the thought of having this kind of double-edged sword accompany him for the rest of his life but he ended up burying these worries when he realized that they already arrived at the police station.
Each one of them went through a quick interrogation to get their take about what happened and the investigator took each of their statements carefully, after that they were let go. Mostly because the one most involved in this was only a kid and with no parents so they took pity on him, otherwise that would have taken longer.
Now however, 5 people that didn't know each other before today suddenly found themselves facing one another awkwardly none knowing what to do or say after today's weird events…
But the lively Chiho couldn't stand the silence anymore and with a weird expression on her cute face she said to Yuki "So, Yuki-kun you are Maou-san's new neighbor?"
'Why is she looking at me with this weird face, is she thinking something dirty? too bad for you I don't swing that way'
Mashiro looked between me and Maou curiously and how different we looked, but what she didn't know was that our difference was way bigger than simply our look. Because one looked like a proper and gentle human but had a demonic heart, while the other looked like a demon but had a human heart... a slightly twisted one…

"Yes, I became a tenant at the same building as Maou yesterday, the landlord was kind enough to accept me despite my miserable state and we had quite the funny first encounter that was full of surprises, did Maou tell you about it?"
Yuki couldn't help but smile as he remembered the priceless look of fear and nervousness Maou had when he met him yesterday, and the feeling of pride he felt as he was able to scare the demon lord and his demon general, a feat only he and that stain of purple could achieve... although he wished it was someone else that achieved it with him...
Chiho's eyes suddenly ignited in curiosity when she heard that something might have happened so she quickly responded "No he didn't tell me about a funny meeting, he simply said that he's got a new neighbor that might end up working with us and even attend the same high school as me, so I was quite curious about you but I never thought we would meet under such strange circumstances"
Chiho, like Chihiro, was weirded out by Yuki's scary appearance at first, but once they got to know him and saw how he stood up for the girls, they started to let their guard down a little around him even though they still found him a little scary when he looked them right in the eyes with his eerie sunken green eyes making them start mumbling some prayers in their heads, used to ward off ghosts and evil spirits...
"Oh, really? He didn't tell you?" Yuki stared with a mischievous smile at Maou who started looking at him nervously before he continued "I wonder why wouldn't he?"
Everyone turned to look at Maou in anticipation waiting for him to tell them what happened while he simply shot Yuki an imploring look to not embarrass him any further but Yuki simply ignored him and pretended not to notice his please and under the persistence of the girls, he ended up telling them how he and his roommate Ashiya thought he was a ghost and all the crazy things that happened thanks to this misunderstanding, making them laugh and forget completely about the incident of the three thugs which are going to pass some vacation in prison, especially the one that tried to stab Yuki with a knife…
'Was this his purpose from the start' Thought Maou while secretly observing the relaxed laughter and smiles around him before he looked secretly at Yuki's creepy face 'It seems like this kid isn't as rotten as he looks after all…'
-----
After they had some fun talking outside the police station, it was finally time for each one of them to go their own ways and Maou was the first to say "It's been fun meeting you guys but we need to go back to work now or our boss will get mad at us"
"Ehhh, but I want to talk a little bit more with Mashiro-chan…" said Chiho with a pout as she found Mashiro very cute and both quickly got close to each other especially when Chiho noticed her sadness earlier and came to comfort her…

"Sorry Chiho-chan, but we really need to go now, you two exchanged numbers so you can talk and meet again sometime later" Hearing what Maou said, Chiho reluctantly nodded but before leaving she gave Mashiro a long hug as she said "Mashiro-chan make sure to call me okay? And visit our MgRonald whenever you can, I will make sure to take care of you!"
Mashiro nodded at her with her expressionless face, while inside she was quite happy that she made such a nice new friend, a friend that her cousin Chihiro kept comparing her chest with while full of jealousy at the unfairness of the world…
"Thank you so much again for your help, Maou-san" Said Chihiro to Maou as she bowed politely and Maou also returned the bow politely as he said "Please don't mention it, I couldn't stand seeing a woman and my neighbor assaulted in front of me"
Hearing what he just said with such a sincere and honest face almost made me chuckle 'Yea right demon lord, the blood of humans in your hand is enough to fill an ocean and you talk about how you can't stand seeing a woman being hurt so sincerely… you really are a piece of art'
And just like that, they turned around and started heading back to their work while Chiho kept waving at Mashiro and Yuki found himself left alone awkwardly with them…again…
"Thank you Yuki-kun for standing up for us back then" Said Chihiro sincerely. After all, she misunderstood him back then and thought that he was spineless and she also understood that this trouble wouldn't come to him in the first place if they weren't sitting with him…
"Well, I did it for Mashiro, so please don't say for 'us'" Yuki said with a mischievous smile that annoyed Chihiro to no end and ruined this wholesome moment so she said "And here I was being polite to you, you bastard!"
"Hahahaha, well it was nice meeting you two but I also have to go now. After all, this weak body of mine needs some rest"
Chihiro remembering what the medic told him before he left, understood that Yuki was telling the truth so she nodded at what he said, while Mashiro fearing that she might not get to see him again if he leaves just like that, suddenly held his shirt and kept staring at him…
Looking at this cute girl that doesn't know how to express herself, Yuki asked curiously "What's wrong Mashiro?" Chihiro too was curious about what this unpredictable girl was going to do next...
"I didn't answer you yet" said Mashiro still not letting go of his shirt...
'Hmm, what's she talking about?' Yuki couldn't help but tilt his head in confusion before it suddenly hit him 'Oh, she's talking about when I said why do you care? And if she understood herself?' Realizing that his virginity was at stake here, Yuki quickly asked her in anticipation "So, do you have an answer?"
Meanwhile, Chihiro looked at this blankly and couldn't help but think 'What's going on? What answer? Did he ask her out? Like hell I will let this ghost date my cute cousin! But let's see what she says first' so, with her parent mode active, Chihiro turned her attention to her cousin who was standing dangerously close to this ghost...
Mashiro cutely shook her head and said "No, I don't". Hearing this, Yuki couldn't help but let out a long sigh 'It seems I got excited for nothing' he thought before he said "Hah, girl you really are tough to handle"
Mashiro suddenly seemed sad as she lowered her face thinking that he got mad at her for not giving him an answer but Yuki suddenly smiled at her and patted her head gently as he said "Well, there's no rush anyway is there? Take your time, experience what life has to offer and when the time comes, tell me what's the answer you come up with, I can't wait to see what story you will write with your life, I just hope it's a story with no regrets"
Mashiro suddenly stared at him in shock as the spring breeze caressed her golden hair and the warm light of the sun illuminated her face creating a very beautiful scene as she muttered "a story with no regrets… " her heart was touched at this moment as she felt she understood something and the doubts she had concerning her previous decisions and coming here to Japan started clearing up…
Even Chihiro who was ready to ruin any attempts Yuki had in trying to date Mashiro suddenly found herself staring at him with wide eyes and her mouth open in shock at the eloquent words that could come out from this ghost, but suddenly her jealousy kicked in as she thought 'Why didn't he talk to me this way…'
And to his surprise when he lost all hopes about completing this quest quickly. A notification suddenly appeared in front of him…
[Quest: confused heart (completed)]
[Host overperformed by helping Mashiro clear her doubts quickly and strengthen her convictions in trying to follow her dream of creating art that she loves. Additional rewards will be added]
[Accept reward: Yes/no]
The quest he thought would take him a long time to complete and might even fail as the heart's a very difficult puzzle to solve was suddenly completed as Mashiro opened her mouth and said "I think I found my answer…"

Overseer
From the nothingness I appeared. Bodiless, voiceless, ageless, I have only thoughts and emotions to guide me. My one connection to the world lies in the hearts of a small colony of lizards, just on the cusp of maturing. I reach out to them without hands, inspiring them to be more than what they are, shaping their bodies from visions of lost memories. But where do the memories come from? I am always left with more questions than answers. In my lonely shapeless existence the lizards cannot hear my words, and they cannot feel my touch, and I must wonder, do I even really exist? --- Called emotional, abstract, and beautiful by readers, this story is an observational account of a disembodied entity that has the power to influence and change a race of mildly intelligent lizard creatures. Memories of a previous life often serve as inspiration, but also generate questions as to whom the entity might have been before it became an Overseer. (presented in short chapters) (Thank you readers for getting my story into the top 5 ;u; ~

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
