《Black Onyx - Forgotten Magic》Ch. 265 Resounding Slap

Bam! Bam! Bam!
The exchange of powerful strikes continued through the night, and only the fires around the city and the moon in the sky provided some light for the two opponents.
Small empty Earth Crystals littered the ground in the hundreds, most of them already cracked and not worth reusing. It was what Gerald gathered over the months and it came quite handy now. All that trash of Poor and Low quality finally got some use.
That's when the Ogre noticed something alarming. The stone giant it was facing was now already almost as big as it was, and still going strong. It, on the other hand, was almost already out of Mana, and when that ran out the defense would greatly diminish. Even its strength would decrease by around 20%!
The Ogre suddenly started to panic. It wasn't much, but Gerald noticed since he was looking for it.
He knew the status of the beast better than the Ogre itself. It suddenly tried to distance itself from him.
"Oh, no you don't!" He started attacking even more aggressively, pulling out spell scrolls and Elemental magic attacks, keeping it preoccupied.
Twenty Greater Fireballs exploded on every part of its body, and Wind Blades and Ice Lances pounded on its skin.
The Ogre's Mana plummeted.
"Roar! Damn you, human!" Realizing it fell into a trap, the Ogre burst out with even greater vigor and put all its energy into a single attack. Mana gathered in its fists as it swung them at Gerald.
Ka-Boom!
The stone giant exploded. Not a single piece was left standing.
"Hahaha, that was a good hit!"
The Ogre jerked its head up, only to see the hated human standing in the sky with his hands on his hips and wearing a mocking smile. He barely had a scratch.

"Now that you so kindly wasted all your Mana, let me show you how real fighting is done," Gerald shouted and his Aura rose to the peak. "Remember it for the next life!"
He rose his hands to the sky, and broken stones rose up with them. Hundreds of meter-long Stone Bolts were instantly formed and hung menacingly, rocking in the wind.
Next, nine Greater Fireballs started forming around him in a circle, each containing 50MP of pure fiery destruction. With his mind increasing he could create and control ever greater amounts of magic.
The Greater Fireballs moved to the side, and another set of nine started forming in their place. The creation was repeated once more, resulting in almost thirty of them lighting up the night sky.
Many eyes turned in his direction, towards the shining beacon of hope.
Such a display of power would have never moved the Ogre usually, however, when without the protection of magic, the mere sight filled it with dread.
It tried to immediately escape, however, tall walls appearing suddenly all around it boxed it in. Even after breaking them, they would immediately reform themselves as Gerald laughed at its pathetic attempts at escape. Meanwhile, the spells kept increasing in the sky.
"Oh… I just got an idea!" he suddenly exclaimed with bright eyes.
The flames and stone collided in the sky. It was less than half of the spells, but the change was immediate.
The rock was bathed in flames and soon turned red. The air around it warped from the heat as the silicon-based minerals turned white and started dripping molten stone.
"Do you like meteors?" Gerald asked. "I think they are pretty neat! Natural fireworks...and so brilliantly destructive."
The Ogre roared in response like a caged animal, calling for help from its brethren.

Immediately the Orcs nearby stopped fighting and destroying the city, and like a flood, they stormed toward their superior.
"Gerald!" Tabbris shouted, "Stop playing around, finish it!"
"Tsk," Gerald clicked his tongue in annoyance seeing the beasts were coming back. "There's never any time to play, everybody is always in such a hurry…" He flicked his hand, and the entirety of his spells on standby descended towards one target like a storm.
First were the Meteors. They splashed on the Ogre, created small explosions, and burst into flames.
The second was the Greater Fireballs. They exploded on its body, taking out small chunks of flesh and rupturing the skin.
Behind them were the Stone Bolts. They pierced deep in the Ogre's flesh, making it look like a porcupine.
Then the Ice Lances fell and dug even deeper, creating gruesome wounds and freezing the body.
Lastly, Wind Blades fell all over the wounded monster, crisscrossing the limbs and hacking off pieces of muscle tissue.
However, even with all that, the Ogre was still alive and standing. It was now completely enraged and beating on the walls around it like crazy. Though, the only thing that was achieved was to make its wounds even worse, nothing else.
"Damn!" Gerald exclaimed, "You are one tough little bugger, aren't you?" he exhausted most of his Ether Crystals for all those spells. It was time he took matters into his own hand.
"Hands-on approach it is then!"
He 'fell' from the sky and slapped the Ogre on the head.
Pang!
Destruction Palm was mildly effective! Gerald avoided the mad Ogre's attempt at catching him and flew to its back, slapping again.
Pang!
The Ogre roared again and became even more aggressive in its attacks. But… It was useless. Gerald simply stayed just out of its reach and threw a Fireball every now and then or struck with destruction Palm whenever the opportunity presented itself.
The attacks were all concentrated on the head. The damn beast had such a thick skull that even after it became blind and had its face blasted away, it could still stand, swiping at the air around it.
Eventually, the blood loss became too great and it slowed down, until it couldn't move anymore and fell to the ground. At that time Gerald flew high, and like a falling meteor, he plummeted down, plunging the Toothpick through the Ogre's heart.
There was no reaction. The Ogre was dead.
"Hmm, that was... quite anticlimactic" He pulled out his bloody spear and wiped it with a piece of cloth, before storing it away.

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.

The Bronze Players of Recreation
The world of Creation has seen a recent explosion of what can only be called an adventurer’s culture over the past few decades. People who were once looked at as nothing more than lower class mercenaries rose to the ranks of heroes and legends as adventuring became recognized as an idealized lifestyle of overcoming hardship and finding triumph. With the establishment of a guild-based government system on the continent of Terramania, adventurers were soon legitimized and adventuring became a phenomenon universally accepted around the world. Redlette had retreated from this world to live on Earth for the remainder of her years, having been born and outcast by the gods of Creation. However, upon meeting a friend that she treasured dearly, she found herself longing for a return to her world—she wanted to experience it properly and go on adventures with someone whom she holds dear. Putting a plan into action, she meets with her friend, an awkward, nerdy boy by the username of Herring who she’d only known through years of playing online games with him, and invites him to go on this fantastic adventure with her. An adventure in another world had always been an impossible dream for Herring, but when he suddenly found himself with the opportunity to embark on one, he knew it wouldn’t be as simple as books and shows made it out to be. Redlette was notorious for rushing into things without thinking them through, and he was flighty and weak. In the games they played together, they rarely grasped victory. They were losers through and through, both in hobby and life. Despite this, though, he takes the leap and sets off with Redlette into the world of Creation. Together they only had one goal: to have fun and go on the adventure of their lives. This time, they’d establish a guild of their own and be free to take on whatever exploits their hearts desired. This is the story of the founding of their guild. Author’s Notes: -My writing style is largely based off of the absurd amount of light novels I’ve read and anime I’ve watched, so it may come off as cartoonish or exaggerative at times. If that isn’t your thing, I’d steer clear of this story.-Not an MMO story.-No numerical stats.-Relatively slow pacing.-Posts are between 2000-5000 words weekly after Chapter 1.
