《Black Onyx - Forgotten Magic》Ch. X Upgrades (Missing Chapter)

A while later, Gerald went to get his silver bracelets. He didn’t have to wait as they were already finished and prepared for him to pick them up. The price was already paid when he ordered them, so he just had to ask and they were given to him.
Gerald put on the bracelets and observed them. The blacksmith was really good and fast at this kind of work. They both had five Earth Crystals embedded in them, so they each contained 10 MP. It was a great improvement for him since he could now cast Earth spells while having his hands free to do other stuff.
Next, he went to check on his new armor. It should be already finished or soon to be. He went directly to the craftsman’s shop, and as soon as he stepped, in he saw it. A freshly made leather armor made exactly as he requested.
A middle-aged man came to greet Gerald and proudly presented his latest creation.
The armor was made of many moving parts and the whole body would be completely hidden behind multiple layers of leather. The armor had many reinforced leather plates, held together by small pieces of metal.
It even came with a nice helmet that had a layer of iron between two layers of leather. If you didn’t feel the weight of the helmet, you would think it was only made of leather.
Gerald was immediately satisfied by the appearance. It was almost exactly as he imagined it. It was only better than that and not worse. There was only a single detail missing, and that was the emblem of the Black Onyx.
He took out a piece of paper and requested it to be copied onto the front plates of the armor. After a few words, the middle-aged man understood completely what it was that Gerald wanted. The price for such meticulous work, with attention to detail, was quite high and time-consuming.

Gerald didn’t mind and even paid extra so the armor could be completed the same day. When he received a gold coin, the master was quite happy to oblige.
Gerald decided to wait in his room for the next five to ten hours for his armor to be completed. He had a few things to do, so it was no big deal. Ne decided to make a whole bunch of potions.
Especially the Mana Potions quickly depleted since he was often using them for training. He decided to make a few more, alongside Swiftness Potions.
He had a plan to try and sell some Swiftness Potions in the Capital. They had many capable alchemists there and there had to be someone that would recognize their value. He himself used them quite often and they really came in handy the last time.
He would be, no doubt, dead if he didn’t have Swiftness Potions when fighting against the Hobgoblin. Physically he was no match for him, and even with magic, he had difficulties taking him down.
The only advantage he had in this world was his knowledge and his resistance to poison. And he couldn’t even take full credit for that.
His knowledge came from centuries of scientific discoveries and so did his poison immunity. As civilizations advanced, there was more and more waste getting produced. People on Earth were no different.
Scientists gave many solutions on how to stop polluting and even clean up the planet, but that would cost money. A lot of money. And who would pay that? Nobody wanted to take that responsibility.
Instead, they decided to pretend the problems didn’t exist. It went fine for a while until people started dropping dead from either air or water pollution. Microplastics even started threatening the health of those at the top. Even they couldn't escape the invisible enemy.

Luckily for them, the advancements in nanotechnology and robotics allowed for the creation of something called Nanites.
These Nanites, microscopic machines, could be used to clean the planet and the problems of pollution would be solved. But then again, that would take money. A lot of money.
Instead, the geniuses of mega-corporations partnered up with the government and came up with an even ‘better’ idea.
Instead of releasing the Nanites into the environment to clean, they decided to inject them directly into people. They would then be dormant until some harmful substance entered the body. They would then collect it, disable it, or throw it out.
There were many ways of doing that. It all depended on where the substance was, if it was a wound, it would get expelled on the spot. Otherwise, they would either deposit it in the colon, the bladder or if the poison or some other harmful substance was ingested or inhaled, people would either cough it out, puke it out, or a combination of both.
The solution was less than perfect. Wherever the air was polluted, people would constantly be coughing and sneezing. Where water was polluted, they would usually have diarrhea or worse. But those at the top didn’t care. As long as they could make a profit and remain in power, they would do anything.
That way the problem of people dying was eventually solved and they even made a good bit of money while doing so. The Nanites had to be replenished every ten years and they were mandatory if you wanted to live in certain places.
Gerald’s family was quite well of and they all got the Nanites injected, including Gerald. Too bad that happened about seven years ago. He had another three years of complete poison and microbial immunity.
Of course, the Nanites wouldn’t immediately stop working after that. It’s just that they would slowly start breaking down and each year after that, the number of Nanites in his body would get approximately halved and in an extra five years the Nanites would be too few to protect him.
He had a good five to eight years before his god-like immunity completely disappeared.

A World Forgotten
***This story will contain lite-litrpg elements, mainly character pages and a town page. There will also be settlement building and adventuring, missteps and achievements. But one thing it definitely won’t have is a harem. Nor will it have an overpowered MC. Contains mild cursing.*** ***feel free to critique my writing and offer input. This is my first venture into writing. I've always enjoyed litrpg/gamelit books. I feel like I write how I talk, so it may be a little different. You won't hurt my feelings if you see something wrong or out of place! *** ***What follows is a condensed part of chapter 1. Enjoy!*** Drew Cooper is thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. Waking up in his sweats and t-shirt near what seems to be a forgotten path through some woods, he struggles coming to terms that he's no longer in his apartment. As he tries to cope with his new reality, he hears a horse coming down the path. He hides behind a nearby tree dreading what may happen next. As the horse approaches, he sees a man walking next to it. The horse is burdened with packs and gear. When the man nears, Drew nearly panics. He has a large sword strapped to his waist, obviously a fighter. He continues to hide as the man slowly passes only for the man to stop a dozen meters past his hiding spot. "You may as well come out, ya know. You weren't as well hidden as you thought," the man stated matter-of-factly, letting the horse’s reins go and putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Slowly and scared for his life, Drew raised up and walked from behind the tree. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't planning on attacking you. I-I don't know where I am. I heard your horse and hid. I didn't know what you'd do if you saw me. I'm sorry," he nervously blurted out. A minute passed. Then two. The man seemed interested with Drew and stepped closer, eyes squinting as if trying to see something. "What's that on your shirt? Is that. What is that? Is that, Pac-man?" The man was visibly shaken while pointing at me. Looking down at his t-shirt nervously, "Yea. Yea. I woke up here a few hours ago I think. 3 maybe 4 hours. I’ve just been sitting here. Where am I? What's going on?" Drew asked. "That's not important right now," the man replied. " What's important is where you're from. What year is it?" "What year? April something 2020. Why? What's going on?" Drew continued now worried. The man was taken aback. After a few moments, he seemed to calm himself some. The man sighed and looked at Drew in earnest. "Well, I've got good news and bad news for ya. Bad news is you're not on Earth anymore. Good news is you happened to run into me and not someone else. You’re either really lucky, or it’s fate we met in these woods, and I don’t believe in luck." The man continued to walk towards Drew while talking and put out his hand. "I'm John Mitchell from St. Louis or thereabouts. You’ve got nothing to be scared of by me. Walk with me and let’s talk."
