Jane was equipped with a sword and shield. She summoned four sword and shield wielding golems around her, and two with bows. The bow golems began shooting at Lucy. Jane and the melee golems began to advance in formation towards Lucy. Lucy put up a shield wall, and then expended all of her mana to cover the arena in a maze of ice walls. She ordered Gary to look for an opportunity to kill Jane. Gary cast fog, and stalked around Jane and her golems. He thought he saw an opportunity when her back was turned and charged. One of the golems suddenly turned, and slashed toward him tearing open a hole in Gary's stomach. An arrow also impaled him in the back. Gary was quickly warped out and healed. Lucy was on her own. She hoped the fog was obscuring the arena well. She didn't want to reveal her beastial transformation to her future adversaries. She transformed, and charged at the golem formation. Though She took a beating, and a few arrows, she eventually beat Jane down.
Her next match was against a student who had caustic claws. Lucy kept her distance, and froze them in place as she barraged them with ice bolts. She won the fight easily thanks to her superior mana capacity. The semifinal was against Kristie. Kristie took a stance, and charged at Lucy. A flurry of fists descended on her. Gary quickly shielded Lucy, and began distracting Kristie. Kristie's fists were fast, but Gary was faster when he was expecting them. Lucy used the distraction to distance herself, and launch icebolts at Kristie. Without turning around she blocked all of them, and kept trying to hit Gary. The fight continued in this quagmire for a few moments. Lucy was almost out of mana, and Gary was beginning to wear out. Kristie seemed to have limitless stamina. Gary decided to use the fog again, and placed himself in a position to pounce on Kristie from an unseen angle. Lucy seemed to pick up on the idea, and began expanding her remaining mana to distract Kristie. Kristie charged in the direction of the ice bolt barrage. She began to cast a spell, but before she could finish the incantation Gary had cast haste on himself, and pounced onto her at a speed she couldn't react to.

After this fight Lucy was given a break. The remaining bouts were between the losers to determine their places relative to each other. Lucy elected to spend the day training, and preparing her secret for Fritz. Fritz had easily beaten his way to the top. His light affinity was particularly strong for a half-celestial, and he had kept up with his cultivation. When the fight started Lucy had attempted to Barrage him with ice bolts. Fritz retaliated with a burning aura skill that melted all of her attacks. Her ice walls were only barely able to block his lasers. Gary was only around to provide shields, and dodge. Fritz aura was too hot for Gary to handle. Lucy was aware of the spells Gary could use, and ordered him to cast haste on her. She used her beast transformation, and tackled Fritz. His aura burned her skin, but she then turned into an Ice sculpture. The cold quickly seeped into Fritz's skin cooling him down. Gary then took the opportunity to strike Fritz down.
Through hard work, and guile Lucy had cemented her place at the top of the first years. This was truly an achievement worth celebrating. She realized that she was only capable of this thanks to Gary. Although she wanted to be stronger herself, A best tamer truly was nothing without her beasts. Summer vacation had arrived, and the students were temporarily kicked out of the dorms. Those who didn't have places to go to where provided hotel rooms for the summer. Lucy was amongst these students. As an orphan there was nobody to go home to or celebrate with. For the moment she had Gary. She decided to visit her parents graves. They had received a pauper's burial. An unmarked grave on a hill outside of the city. They had been killed during one of the many tiefling purges. Lucy had vague memories of her parents, and the times that they had to constantly keep moving. She had spent the early parts of her life living in the wilderness hiding out from the authorities. Eventually the protests from human rights groups were too much for the emperor to handle, and thus the purges ended. In truth the heavenly prince had taken over the emperor's body, and determined that a purge was a waste of valuable manpower. He needed his subjects to focus on things that mattered to him. Like helping him regain his strength, or building him a second castle. Thanks to the heavenly prince's good grace unfortunate souls like Lucy were allowed back into the kingdom, and taken care of courtesy of the state. Of course this sudden shift in attitude didn't remedy the situation, or bring back lost lives, but it was an improvement from outright genocide.

The Desecrator's Tomb - A Numbers Lit-aRPG
A man appears in a dungeon full of undead. He tries to leave. This is my attempt at writing a litrpg where the system is more formalized. This means that there will be a fair amount of min-maxing and we will hopefully be able to calculate the dps of every ability by the time I am done. Expect math. The main character will become a Drain Tank. This story uses an aRPG item and stat system. Oh and one last thing. Beware the penguins. update 1/8/22: I am trying to simulate things as faithfully as is reasonable. As of chapter 17 there are animated gifs depicting Chilly's life throughout encounters. update 1/11/22: Kreksyte drew me a cover! All hail our artist overlords! update 5/25/22: Going on hiatus for a bit. The second arc is complete. Will come back for the 3rd and final arc soon. update 7/15/22: ayy...I've returned. Starting the third and final arc. [was once a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
