《A Reincarnated Demon’s Life of Wonder》[Arc 0] Chapter 2: Character Creation
Advertisement
To the shameless little soul, hello again.
Did you enter that office with the knowledge of it belonging to a subordinate of the worst Ultimate Goddess, Alvatria of Darkness?
Crap, crap, crap! Sorry, ma'am! I didn't know!
Alright, I'm in trouble. But how did she know I was here?
Friendly advice: never use a computer without checking if it's got cloud save or not.
Wow, she's good. I mean, f*ck!! This is too bad!
Do not be alarmed. Delivering a threatening speech is simply the first rule of the Evil Goddess 101 rulebook.
Oh, phew... what was that about "evil"?
Moving on, as you may have guessed with your limited intellect, I have been receiving your designs for the new species to be added to the World System of my homeworld, Terra Sol.
And I fell in love with them! If I could fall in love, considering my disposition. And I especially love the first design. It was thanks to it that I decided not to exterminate you on the spot.
EXTERMINATE!? D-damn good thing that I took my time with that one...
And to show my appreciation, I have a suggestion: would you like to be reincarnated to the world of Terra Sol?
...reincarnated?
On Terra Sol, there are twelve, what should we call them..., "living bugs" that have gone past the World System's frames. This is due to some minor programming faults and outside influence.
While we reigning gods could defeat them, these "Ultimate Disasters" are a tough lot. We would destroy more of our world than they could, even if some of them have the potential to destroy Terra Sol if we let them roam. Then again, we would strike at them right before things went that far. Consequences would be skewed at that point.
Uh-oh. That's not good.
So, when we first got to know about these Ultimate Disasters, we informed the mortals about those monsters. But that wasn't enough.
One of these Disasters showed itself during a war between two nations, and almost destroyed them both! Then, one of my colleagues, Qulux (urgh) came with the idea to grant several individuals there on the battlefield a blessing from us Ultimate Gods.
The idea worked, and the Disaster was defeated. After that, we decided to call these blessed people "the Champions of the Ultimate Gods".
And here are two important facts:
1: not all the gods blessed a "Champion" of their own.
2: a game was thought of after that event.
Specifically, this game goes out on making each God's Champion try to earn the blessings known as "Proofs" from the other Gods. How they can earn them differs between the different gods.
The problem is that there are not many people that can accept our blessings. Putting it bluntly, we Ultimate Gods are too clumsy to grant small amounts of power. Forcing someone unfit for the blessing would lead to them blowing up like a pinata with a stick of dynamite in it. Just gorier.
You don't need to describe it. Please don't describe it. I've got a baaaaaad feeling about this.
This made us other gods start to look for individuals to become our Champions. And it's been a tough selection, I tell you. I found only a single individual, a nasty old Gremlin, who could qualify, but he refused! The nerve!
Anyway, I am the only god(dess) not to have a Champion.

So, I thought of another idea: If no one can accept my powers, why not build one from scratch?
Bad feeling intensifying! Bad feeling intensifying!!
But that damn nitpick, Order, has banned me from creating a creature from scratch due to one of my innocent slip-ups in the past. I could prepare a body, but the soul and mind is a different story. And it needs to be durable enough to withstand my blessing. Skills are add-ons to the soul after all.
Meaning it's the soul that goes ka-blooey if it's too weak. I'm not sure if I want stuff like skills...
Therefore, I need a soul that has matured to a reasonable level. You, who lost your memories when your head got splattered, are perfect for that job! Also, I like your work with the character charts of the new races. Think of it as a reward.
...why does she know how I died? But it's fine to see that my work's appreciated, even if the other party is a self-proclaimed evil goddess.
Besides, unless you know some other gods, there's no way for you to reincarnate anywhere with your sense of self intact. Accepting my proposal is your best bet for your (next) life.
Tsk. She's right.
Anyway, do you wish to accept this deal?
Yes/No
The last part of the message must be acting as buttons. The nerve...
LIKE I'VE ANY OTHER CHOICE!! As she said, I got no other shots of getting back my life..., or a new one, considering the situation. But it's an evil goddess! There's no way I could trust her..., but then again, no other choice...
...fiiiiiine. Yes.
An answer from the evil goddess came a split second after I pushed the yes button. Did she prepare the answer beforehand? Like, she program the message so it would pop up right after I agreed on her deal?
...now I'm scared of what would've happened if I pushed the no-button.
Perfect! Here are your choices for the races you can reincarnate to:
Bat:
A normal bat. It comes with flight and can gain skills related to the moon. They can evolve once they have mastered an attribute. For you, it has to be to the Darkness Bat. That is a divine decree. But afterward, you can choose whether to become a werebat or a vampire if you want to. Lesser Zombie The lowest of the low zombies that you can find. While having many weaknesses to fire, light, and holy, people aren't hunting this one down as actively as other members of the undead, unless it is the one who attacks first. The reason for its unpopularity is mostly because of the stench. It should be of the Stench attribute instead of the Undead attribute. The undead doesn't need to eat or sleep, but some do it anyway as a hobby. This is true even for this weakling zombie here. While normal zombies have no functional brains, you should be fine though. Take this if you want to live your new life as an undead. Future normal evolutions are Zombie, High Zombie, and Living Dead. Goblin The weakest of the weak. These guys can only work well when they're cooperating, so being alone is the same as a death sentence. Unlike the other options, it has the limbs to equip items, but you would need those items before anything, right? It evolves into a new goblin race based on what class it has, then it can evolve into a Hobgoblin. But seriously, I don't recommend it. Grey Demon One of the seven weakest demons in the family line from hell. It represents the sin of Sloth (a weak representative) and does not like to fight something head-on. Since it's such a juvenile demon, it can learn monster-related skills from even non-demons, but only from one line of monsters. The evolution of the demon species is wide and spread. So wide that your evolution options will always be limited to at most 5 options that fit you the most. Though, selecting the best evolution may be a challenge on its own.

That's..., a bunch of no-gooders. The undead, bats, goblins, and demons...
And before I forget, about your initial skills:
Initial skills?
After someone's born, they gain 5 free "skill slots" which can be used to gain skills for free. If they are of a race that racially owns a skill(s), that skill(s) will take some of the free skill slots.
For the rest, one's talent and practice will allow them to gain specific skills as they grow up. A brat that trains with the sword could unlock the [Sword Proficiency] skill, just to name an example.
But since you're WAY behind the other Champions, I'm forcefully giving you 10 slots instead of 5. Also, I'm turning off the "random-factor" of those slots. Just wish for a skill from the Skill Shop, a System-based thing, you'll get it once you try it, and you can use a free slot instead of spending Aether Points, which are normally used for transactions with the Skill Shop.
However, you have to choose 3 Darkness attribute skills that you will reincarnate with, along with potential skills your new race may have from birth.
And a final thing: no matter what race you pick, the body provided will be past their teenage years. I know mortals like you are in constant heat all year long.
Who're you calling a horny mess!? But I have to agree that I can skip the stage where I go goo-goo-ga-ga is a good thing...
Anyway, I expect great things from you. Get entangled in as much trouble as much as possible.
Finally, DO NOT lose to the Champion of Light, or else.
And now she's outright threatening me... Am I only getting a new chance in life because the darkness hates the light so much? Then what does that make me...
Let's switch gears. First on my program is to select my next-life-species.
The best bet here would be the bat. I mean, you get the ability to fly and all, and if I'm lucky, I could end up as an isekai's version of Carmilla. Not so sure about the idea of taking bloodbaths...
The zombie is...honestly not that bad. If it means that I can escape some battles due to stinking, then it's not a bad trade-off. Besides, my nose would probably have rotten off, so I'm not taking any damage.
The gob is out. I don't remember much, but I know I'm not a social person. Group fights or living in a clan or something is out of my capabilities.
Then there's the demon. The sloth-based demon. It has many evolution lines is tempting, but it feels like it's the weakest of them all. Then again, I did design a few demons, and outta the whole bunch of requests, they were my favorites to work with...
Okay, I'll take Grey Demon. It feels like it has lots of future potential with all its evolutions. Besides, being able to use skills from any monster species, even if limited to one line of monsters, is damn tempting.
I chose the Grey Demon and moved on with the "character creation". I didn't get to know what skills it has, but one of the free skill slots is greyed out, so it must have at least 1.
Name: Garami Race: Grey Demon Initial Skills: Inborn - [*** Lv.1] Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided
...? "Garami"? Is that my name? It feels like something I know, but I don't have the feeling it was my name from before I died. Rather, it feels like a game character or something from a manga I read before. Did the goddess slap it on me for some reason?
Well, it's not that bad, so I'll refrain from complaining.
Feeling a little better, I opened the list over the "Darkness skills" that I had to choose 3 from before being reborn. And this list is loooooong...
If the combination attributes have even just 1/10th of this amount, then there's no reason to not go for them over primary attributes!
Enough with the solo-stand-up. It's time to choose some skills. ...this one looks good.
Skill: Lurk Skill Type: Passive Skill Attribute: Darkness, Shadow Tier: 1 Effect: Reduces the probability of being discovered while hiding or moving covertly.
My reborn self is of a race that doesn't like head-on battles after all. Stealth is important here. Didn't expect that some skills could be related to multiple attributes. That's new.
And for my second skill..., this one seems nice.
Skill: Nightvision Skill Type: Perception Skill Attribute: Darkness, Shadow Tier: 1 Effect: Improves the user's sight while in the dark.
It wouldn't be funny to get ambushed in the dark. Especially since the first skill is probably better when I'm the one hiding in the dark.
...but this is a world filled with monsters, right? Don't I need something to fend them off? Attack skill, attack skill..., this could work.
Skill: Dark Bullet Skill Type: Attack Skill Attribute: Darkness Tier: 1 Effect: Fires a bullet made out of solid darkness at a target. Consumes MP.
A long-range attack is a must for someone who's never been in a fight like me.
Name: Garami Race: Grey Demon Initial Skills: Inborn - [*** Lv.1] [Lurk Lv.1] [Nightvision Lv.1] [Darkness Bullet Lv.1] Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided
All Undecided initial skills can be chosen while on Terra Sol at any time.
Final Confirmation:
Are you sure that you want to use this race and these skills?
Y/N
...yeah. I'm sure. Rather, I don't know what else I should bring along from the possible Darkness skills on this list. That thing is as deep as the darkness itself...
Jokes aside, I've postponed this for too long now. Time for my new life to start! ...anytime now...GO GET THEM, ME!!

Cary Simms: The Fairy Mushroom Forest
From a young age, Cary Simms knew that she wasn't like the other boys her age. She didn't know why or how that was, but it seemed apparent to the bullies of her school. They would often call her names, chase after her after school, and beat her up when they could catch her. Her only protection, besides escape, was in the words of the Good Book. But that was before she stumbled into the supposedly haunted house at the end of her street. When a mysterious ring and a drawing on the back wall of the post office opened up a whole new world for her, things quickly went from weird to scary. At a new school, in a new world, surrounded by people who had access to magic, all Cary could think of was how to escape the witches that had her trapped there. It was only having her best friend by her side that gave her any comfort at all. ***This is my first attempt at a middle grade book, and would appreciate feedback. Please note, this is a second draft, and might not represent the final product.***
