《The Forgotten Gods》Chapter 94

I was happy to have a dreamless night. While it didn’t give me any new information, good sleep always helped put things into perspective, and the best rest was always with windows open in a storm. While I had no windows, I had a thunderstorm, so I awoke refreshed and happy.
I had enough food to last me for a few more weeks, so I wasn’t too worried about not being able to get out of my camp. What I needed to work through, however, was this assignment of building a shrine. I wanted to ask Sam how I could give myself over to the sisters, but when I thought about asking, I got all tied up inside. I was almost compelled to not think about asking.
The shamans had told me that the words in there couldn’t come out and that others couldn’t be told about that place. I thought that “couldn’t” meant a firm, please don’t. However, when they said that others “couldn’t,” they meant that I could not tell others and that the things said there couldn’t be repeated.
I had to plan out when I went and talked with them again as it tired me out the next day. However, I had direction as to what I needed to do for the shrine, and so I would get that built first. Hopefully, by then, I could leave to find Lannah.
I spent the morning designing the tools that I would use. The main issue that I needed to overcome was the removal of the topsoil. It was easy enough to move as it would be loose. However, I would be creating so much of it that I wasn’t sure my body could deal with moving all of it.
So I started to work on building a hammer that would turn rock into dirt and explode it out. My thought was it would make it so I could dig into the side of the cliff to make the shrine and likely temple.
I already had the stone hammer from when I was working with primitive tools. So it only took me a couple of hours to add the runes that I wanted and then imbue it with mana and set a core.

Getting this made led straight into more work. While I was able to quickly drive in and turn vast amounts of rock into topsoil, the blast didn’t work the way that I wanted it to. Firstly it didn’t clear the whole thing out, and secondly, it dumped it mostly on me.
So I had to go into the build phase of getting equipment. Coming from Earth, I had ideas of how to clear out so much dirt. For me, it honestly wasn’t that hard; it was just going to be a time-consuming mess.
While building something like a bobcat would be great and fun, I hadn’t put enough thought into how to get magic to do that as of yet. I was sure that I could get the runes to work in the right ways; I hadn’t thought it all through. So no, this was going to be more in line with something I had in my woodshop.
I had learned some things about the way runes and spells worked. The spells I had were all set things. Their intent was guided by the dance, chant, or incantation that set that spell into my skills. Runes were guided by the intent when created and then again when activated.
So runes were more flexible in nature than the spells but required the time to carve them. So when I would power the “Fire and Rain” runes, there was all the prep time before, and the mana used to make them so that I could make something like a spell happen.
When I put them onto an item in a series and linked them like what I did with all the items I cored, I could create permanent intent. Without the core, the series of runes would be one-time use, and then they would be gone.
So it came that I needed to build the tools that I would need to truly make the tools that I would end up needing. Of course, if I had more spells, I would just skip some of the first steps, but as it was, I had more flexibility with runes than with spells even now.
Since Lannah ran off with my wand for dirt to stone, I built a new tool. In my mind, as I was building it, I made sure that it was just topsoil. I included clay and mud things that were compost. I used the widest “dirt” I could think of while I was carving runes. I wasn’t going to make this a wand that would drain me. I built a full mage’s staff again this time; I even added a river stone to the top.
While it took me half the day to get this made, it would make the next few steps much easier for what I wanted to do.
When I was in my previous life, I did woodworking as a hobby. I tried a few times to make it a side hustle, but it never did well enough. Back then, I had a huge dust collector. It was kind of like a shop vac but larger. It was a fast fan with some flex tubing and a bag. If you took the bag off, it would just blow everything out. So my thought was to try to build out of stone, wood, and a ton of magic a magical dust blower/colossal fan. If I could get this going, then I should be able to extract dirt more quickly and blow it out.
On Earth, I would want to have fan blades turning super fast, trying to move around 1000 feet of air per minute. Now I could not figure out a way to make that happen here. But I had magic, so I figured that I could make something work.

The first thing I did was build the box that would house most of the magic. I made it with clay and carved runes into it. Working with the clay was much quicker than with anything else. My goal was to create a vortex that would draw air from one side to the next. So I put the runes for strengthening air and move on the inside. On the outside, I added strengthen to make the box stronger and lighten because it was going to be a beast.
I built a cone to go on one side of it the same way I did the box and fitted them together. I need to reduce the size that the vortex had to draw from. On the other side, I created a spiraled tube that was about four inches in diameter. This would be where my hose connected.
I took most of the rest of the hides I had and created a long hose with it, which would give me a way to vacuum up the dirt. On the hose, I stitched in the runes for air stop on the outside and made it stronger as well.
On the top and sides, I fitted into the clay river stones that I charged up into mana stones. This whole thing was going to be a bear to move and finish. I was kind of sad with the amount of work I was putting into this that I would end up leaving it, but I needed the tool.
Last I built a platform for it. On the bottom side of the platform, I sunk in wooden balls I had carved and put between the clay and the wood grass. My hope with that was that I would be able to pull the grass out and have the balls roll like barrings.
After, I had about a two-foot-tall by two-foot wide and a foot deep box, with a cone on one side and on the other a port on the other side. The whole thing was sitting on a caster plate, and it was covered with runes and power stones.
I used my new staff and turned all the clay into stone. Then I added the cores. One I put into the hose and one into the dust collector.

This is Arm’s Jumbo Dust Collector. Like all Jumbo Dust Collectors this is will help move and collect loose things. While this is called a Dust collector by it’s creator it has no way to collect as there is no collection point tied to this. If the creator wants to use this as the name says then a bag or other container should be added at the out put end. However this seems unlikely as the creator called this several things like dirt mover, giant fan, Super Vacuum and dirt sprayer.
This device works as the creator was wanting in that it creates a large suction force at lower entry to the box and increases the speed of the air and everything trapped in the air remarkably. The flexible hose let this suction be directed easily and at a distance.
As this Jumbo Dust Collector has casters it can roll which makes moving this so much easier on something that is flat. Since it has handles you can even lift it and carry it if you would like. The stone pipes and leather hose can be detached and moved however they are part of the Jumbo Dust Collector and are required to work.
This is Jumbo Dust Collector has a core. Like all items that have a core it can level. As this is an item core it can not reproduce itself.

Durable- This Jumbo Dust Collector is durable, it will not wear out from normal use durability will only decrease with targeted attacks. Mana reservoir- 40 mana unlinked 8000 mana linked to traits. Recharges at a rate of 20 mana per hour can be forced charged. Suction- This Jumbo Dust Collector creates a suction by moving air to 1000 Cubic feet per minute through a six inch pipe. This costs 8 mana per minute to run. Hose length- The length of your hose and pipe is currently twenty feet of pipe and 60 feet of hose.
What caught me off guard was how much mana was stored in this thing. I was looking at more then I could produce and no idea how the 20 mana stones I put in the top created 8000 in reservoir for the traits. I knew that something was going on and I just had no clue what. The other thing that kind of got me going was that the description seemed to be showing truthfully what was going on in my mind when I created it. I didn't have a real name for it and the name that I had called it the most wasn't fitting right as there was no way to collect.

Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.
