《Immortal System: Era of Adventure》Chapter 77: Eight Attacks

In Zane’s opinion the second battle was better than the first. His opponent wasn’t as powerful as the person he faced in the first battle. However, Zane’s opponent was verry skilled with using the magic wand.
The purpose of a magic wand was to improve the wielder’s ability to control their own mana. With a wand it was easier to complete spells perfectly and unleash their full effects. Also, the cost of each spell was reduced, and each spell could be casted faster. At least, this was how Zane felt when he used a magic wand.
During the second battle, Zane primarily focused his attention on the basic magic wand the system gave him. He focused on the way the magic wand calmed his mana, how his mana smoothly flowed from his body to the magic wand and how his wand helped form each spell. Such intense focus led to Zane’s magic barrier enduring multiple spells from his opponent. However, Zane didn’t care.
Having attacks land on his mana barrier only made the battle more stimulating. A stimulating battle with another magic weapon expert was extremely helpful to Zane’s path as a weapon master. During the fight Zane felt his skill with the magic wand steadily increase. Zane was so happy with his improvements that he didn’t want the battle to end. Sadly, his opponent ran out of mana and Zane was declared the winner.
Once the battle ended Zane reviewed the battle for another ten minutes before starting his third match. During the third match Zane decided not to cast a magic barrier. The first and second battles his opponents only used tier zero spells. Although those tier one spells were enhanced by the tier one expert magic weapon mastery skill, Zane was confident in enduring his opponent’s spells with his source field.
Zane was right. His third opponent had a basic source field and used a magic sword. Zane faced his opponent with a magic staff. Zane and his opponent only used tier zero spells during the battle. Most of the spells clashed against each other, but a few spells hit Zane.
The effects of the tier zero spells were completely negated. However, Zane still received some damage. He lost more than one hundred health points each time he was hit with a spell.
Loosing health points didn’t cause Zane to feel worried or afraid. Instead, it made Zane more excited about the battle and improved his connection with the magic staff he was using. Zane waved his staff as he pulled mana from the surroundings and sent a barrage of spells toward his opponent. The result was another victory for Zane.

Next, came the fourth, fifth and sixth battle. The opponent for the fourth battle was someone with a basic source field. The fifth and sixth opponents both had flawless source fields. All three opponents helped Zane develop his use of magic weapons. They all gave Zane a stimulating fight, but all of them were defeated.
When Zane battled the seventh and eighth opponent, he resumed using his magic barrier. He knew opponents with perfect source fields would pose a greater danger to him. Zane was wrong about the seventh battle, but he was correct about the eighth battle.
At the beginning of the seventh battle Zane created a Magic barrier but his opponent did not. A woman with dark skin and short blond hair was standing several meters away from Zane. She wore a robe, like his other opponents before her, and held a glass sphere in her hand. Zane would come to learn that she would keep her gaze on the glass sphere for the entire fight.
Surprised by the lack of defenses his opponent used, Zane didn’t attack right away. However, he quickly recovered after a few seconds and casted a Lightning bolt with his magic staff. The spell was dispersed in midair when it was halfway toward his opponent. Zane unleashed a few more spells at his opponent, but the results were the same.
Zane knew what he needed to do after the first few unsuccessful attacks. More power wouldn’t improve his chances of hitting his opponent. Instead, what he needed was better control. Without further hesitation Zane switched out his magic staff for a magic wand.
Using the magic wand greatly improved the stability of Zane’s spells. Zane continuously cast the Lightning bolt spell and each spell got closer toward his opponent. Every time his opponent destroyed a spell Zane would make slight improvements that would make it harder to destroy the spell.
Making the normal amount of mana used for the spell more condensed made it harder for his opponents to destroy the spell. Strengthening the magic symbols that gave the spell its shape decreased the chances of the spell breaking apart. Bit by bit Zane continued to make changes and eventually his opponent was hit by a Lightning bolt spell.
Zane smiled when he saw his opponent’s body shudder. He didn’t know for sure how strong his opponents source field was, but he guessed that it wasn’t strong enough to negate all effects of tier zero spells. The second special effect of Zane’s lightning bolt spell stunned his opponent. Zane took advantage of his opponent’s condition and unleashed a barrage of Lightning bolt spells at his opponent which led to a quick victory.

The seventh battle was very satisfying for Zane. He was able to use the knowledge and experience that he accumulated over the six previous battles to defeat his opponent. If Zane hadn’t improved his skill with the magic wand, Zane would be forced to challenge his opponent to a game of endurance. A game that Zane would most likely lose.
Zane found his eighth opponent the most annoying. His opponent was a male that wore a magical robe and carried no magical weapons. Also, he wore a wide brim magical hat. But that wasn’t the annoying part.
When the battle began, both Zane and his opponent created a Magic barrier. Zane tested his opponent by casting an Ice bolt spell with his wand. The spell stopped in front of his opponent and started orbiting around his head. Zane quickly realized that his opponent had the ability to control his spells and could most likely use them against him. But that wasn’t the annoying part.
The annoying part was watching his opponent enhance his spells with source energy. Although Zane was surprised to see his opponent use source energy, he knew what it meant for the battle. Zane knew that source energy could be used to amplify an individual’s abilities after they achieved mastery over their spirit or aura. For example, if Zane were to gain mastery over his aura, he would be able to increase his abilities by thirty percent.
A white energy flowed from his opponent’s body and gathered around what use to be Zane’s spell. Zane didn’t know if his opponent used aura or spirit to strengthen the spell, but he did know what to do next. Zane switched his wand for a magic staff and cast another Lightning bolt spell.
Using the surrounding mana, Zane strengthened his second lightning bolt spell. As his opponent sent Zane’s first lightning bolt flying toward him, Zane responded with his second lightning bolt spell. The first spell won, and Zane let it land on his magic barrier.
Nothing immediately happened after that. Zane observed his opponent and his opponent stood still. Zane’s eighth opponent most likely used less mana to control Zane’s spells than he did to use his own. This reminded Zane of the opponent he faced in the seventh battle, and he knew he would have to figure out a way to overcome his opponent’s weapon.
It didn’t take long for Zane to make a decision. Zane switched out his magic staff for a magic book. A magic book is a weapon that allowed its wielder to cast spells with very little effort. It did so through the magic theory, words, and symbols fused into the book.
Magic books could have spells permanently or temporarily fused into them. The permanent method required the wielder to quickly perceive the spell fused into the magic book and use their mana to activate the spell. Afterward the magic book would draw on the surrounding mana to cast the spell.
The temporary method required the wielder to fuse a spell into the magic book and hold their connection with the spell while the magic book cast it. Zane preferred the temporary method because it required him to have a strong focus and connection with the magic book he used. Also, it allowed him to influence the strength of the spell, how fast the spell is cast, when the spell is released and more.
Once Zane took out his magic book, he opened the magic book to a random page and closed his eyes. Zane focused on the magic book and its desire to be filled. He fused his knowledge of the tier zero Magic barrier spell into a blank page on the book. Within a second, the page was filled with words and symbols.
After the connection was created between Zane, his spell, and the magic book, the magic book began pulling mana from the surroundings. The process for preparing the spell took one second. Next, Zane used the magic book to cast five Magic barrier spells within one second.
The cost of the spell was cut in half and Zane only needed twenty-five points of mana. Plus, Zane had other skills that decreased the cost of the spell. Once Zane finished setting up his defenses it was time to attack.
