《Immortal System: Era of Adventure》Chapter 72: Library

Currently, it was the morning of the sixteenth day at the starting village. A day and a night have passed since the first attack. Zane woke up refreshed after a nice sleep and would be spending his morning at the library.

Zane obtained the sleeping skill during his upgrade. Unlocking the skill was both easy and difficult. To unlock the skill an individual needed to sleep frequently for long periods of time.
Luckily, Zane was able to bypass or shorten the requirements by using the mana in the unique space he was in. After he unlocked the skill, he learned it by using class points and started increasing its level. In addition to improving his sleep skill, Zane improved his other tier zero skills while he was in the unique space.
Walking through the starting village Zane saw different groups of people happily walking and talking with each other. Nobody showed any caution or fear as they went about their day. They behaved like they had no idea that the person next to them could kill them in a few seconds.
Yesterday, Zane’s group told Jade and the others about their discovery. They were just as surprised as Zane’s group when they realized the system stopped protecting people inside the starting village. Jade and the others immediately began discussing what they should do to handle the situation. Zane’s group left before a plan was decided, but it seemed like Jade and the others were open to telling everyone about the changes. However, after observing people’s behavior, Zane began to wonder if Jade and the others told anyone about the changes.
People would still find out about the changes even if Jade and the others didn’t say anything, Zane thought to himself. Maybe Brad was right. Maybe we were overreacting to the situation. After all, most people that have come to the starting village have lived in places where violence is frowned upon.
Brad suggested people wouldn’t react negatively to the systems protection disappearing. He said the people on his world were used to living together peacefully without a mystical force governing their actions and his friends agreed with him. Zane and the others mentioned how the area they lived in was very peaceful as well.
Quickly, they began to realize they might have overreacted. If people from their worlds were peaceful then they didn’t have to worry about an increase in conflict and violence. When they started to calm down Old Saber spoke and gave them a reason to worry.
Old Saber said that the people from his world were not peaceful. In fact, violence was the first method most people on his world use to solve their problems. The undisputed rule of his world was 'might makes right'. Old Saber couldn’t predict how the people from his world would react. They might maintain the current peace, or they might resort to violence at the slightest hint of conflict.

Old Saber’s word made Zane and the others reconsider the possibility of increased violence in the starting village. In addition to the people from Old Saber’s world the group had to consider the members of the elven race. Also, Zane recalled that he met some people from Brad’s world that didn’t hesitate to use violence and start conflicts.
Ultimately, Zane decided to hope for the best and plan for the worst. However, what he saw when he walked through the village was much better than what he hoped for. Shaking his head Zane decided not to focus on the issue anymore. Instead, he quickly made his way through the village and entered the familiar blue building.
After a brief period of darkness Zane saw the familiar lobby of the library. He saw the Messenger sitting down behind a circular desk with her eyes closed as multiple people walked up to her and asked her questions. Without opening her eyes, she would respond to their questions, and they would walk away.
Listening in, Zane was able to hear some of the questions asked. When someone asked the Messenger a question about a specific topic, she would immediately provide them with an answer and take their points. When someone wanted help locating a text containing information in the library, she would tell them the general location of the text and then take their points.
Zane needed information as well, but he wouldn’t be relying on the Messenger. He walked through an arch that was facing the entrance. The other arches were spread out in a semicircle and were centered on the Messenger’s circular desk.
Once Zane passed the arc, he saw several tables of different shapes and sizes. Some of them were occupied while others were empty. Past the tables were rows of bookshelves. The bookshelves contained books, scrolls, stone tablets, skull and other items that contained information.
From experience Zane knew that those bookshelves were very unorganized. He visited the library after his upgrade and spent some time looking through the bookshelves. At the time he was hoping to find the information he needed without relying on the Messenger, but he quickly gave up. Right as Zane was walking toward the Messenger a woman named Gladys stopped him.
Gladys was a small middle-aged woman with short brown hair. She was a human that came from the same world as Brad and his friends. Unlike most people from Brad’s world, she continued to wear the clothes she arrived in. A white dress with flower patterns over a red shirt and pants. Also, she wore glasses which Zane now knew was supposed to help correct her vision.
The reason Gladys stopped Zane was because she wanted to help him look for a book. Gladys told Zane she was one of the people in the crowd he spoke to on the second day. His words motivated her, and she started to apply her skills as a librarian.
Gladys was full of doubts when she first came to the library. After all, the first class she chose was the mystic class. She wasn’t sure how she could use the magical class to learn skills that would allow her to become a librarian in the eyes of the system. However, she quickly found out that she did not have much to worry about.

Less than a day had passed, and she had either unlocked or learned multiple skills related to being a librarian. Only a few days passed since she learned a few skills and she decided to upgrade her class before reaching level fifty. She successfully reached the first tier with a flawless source field.
Hearing about Gladys experience made Zane curious about the experiences that other people might be having. Zane spent most of his time at the starting village training. The few times he interacted with other people was when he was fighting or training in the forest, training ground and by the shelter. Shrugging his shoulders Zane decided stop thinking about the paths that other people might be taking.
Zane walked past several rows of bookshelves and stopped at another seating area. Specifically, he stopped at a table filled with books, scrolls and other items surrounded by a group of different people. Each of them was patiently waiting and a few were quietly talking to their friends. Not long after Zane arrived Gladys appeared carrying several books, a stone tablet and a few scrolls.
Once Gladys saw Zane, she gave him a friendly wave which he returned. She handed the material she obtained to a few people and said a few words to them. Once she was done, she immediately went to talk to Zane. Many people who were unhappy with her decision mumbled complaints, but both Zane and Gladys ignored them.
“It's good to see you again,” Gladys said, “I am happy to say that I successfully completed the mission you gave me.” Gladys showed Zane a section that she specifically made for him on her table.
“Thank you for helping me find the information I needed,” Zane replied.
“I’m the one who should be thanking you. If it wasn’t for your words, I probably would have died in the forest.”
“I’m sure you would have learned to protect yourself.”
“Yeah, I doubt that. Even with the protection of the walls I still haven’t tried to fight the mana creatures. If I was forced to go into the forest and I was to actually face a mana creature I would …” Gladys shook her head and stopped speaking.
“Anyway, thank you,” Gladys continued. “I never thought that I would be able to grow stronger by being a librarian. Each time I organize, read or help others find the information they need I receive experience points. My mind gets sharper, and my body gets stronger. I don’t think there is a way to make my life any more perfect.”
Gladys gave Zane a bright smile. It was a smile he was very familiar with. A smile that he would sometimes wear while he trained. It was a smile that showed she was content with her life. A smile that showed she had found what she was supposed to do and who she was supposed to be.
They both exchanged a few more words before Zane used mana to carry his books and other items to a rectangular table a short distance away. The items Zane brought to his own table included scrolls and tablets made of different material. Also, Zane saw wood, stone and other materials shaped into different weapons with words written on them.
Sitting down Zane began to carefully read the information contained in the items before him. The information contained knowledge that would be useful for his path as a weapon master. Zane read about skills, personal experiences, potential quest and various other helpful details. Sometimes he would be able to feel and visually see certain actions being performed by the people that created the text he was reading from.
Zane said a silent thank you to Gladys as he read through the information, she had prepared for him. He wouldn’t have found this information if he searched on his own and the Messenger wouldn’t have helped much either. Although the Messenger could locate information faster than Gladys, she was very stingy when it came to the quality and quantity of the information.
Each time someone asked for information or a question the Messenger would give them a book, scroll or text that answered their question. However, after reading the text they would have more questions and sometimes the text that they already had was unable to answer the new questions. Therefore, they would have to go back to the Messenger to ask for help once again. Each time they went to her they would lose their hard-earned village points.
The information Zane obtained from Gladys was about the weapon expert class and the magic weapon expert class. The magic weapon expert class was the upgrade Zane was trying to achieve for his mage class. The information about the weapon expert class contained knowledge that he could use as inspiration for his newly created martial weapon expert class.
Zane wasn’t lost when it came to his future path. However, he did appreciate the clarification that came from the information in the library. Teacher Isabelle had only painted a vague outline of his path after he reached the first tier. When he asked for more details, she would ignore him or tell him that he would have to find out on his own. So, for the rest of the morning, Zane sat down in the library absorbing information that would help him take firmer steps along his path.
