《Immortal System: Era of Adventure》Chapter 33: Return

The first thing Zane did when he woke up was check his window. He saw that a few hours had passed and there was about one hour left until dawn. The next thing Zane did was take a step outside and listen to the forest.
It was quiet. Zane training in the wilderness taught him how to be sensitive to the changes around him. When the mana creatures stopped roaring, he woke up. Shane was asleep and Jason was meditating. Zane quietly walked across the thick tree branches, grabbed the rope and slowly slid down.
Shawn was sitting cross legged with his back against the tree. He had one of the elves’ cloaks on the ground in front of him and one on top of him. At least that’s what Zane thought at first. As he got closer to the ground, he was able to see that there were differences between the two cloaks. The moment Zane’s feet softly hit the ground Shawn’s eyes opened.
“Good morning brother Zane,” Shawn said.
“Good morning, brother Shawn.” Zane was caught off guard and was a bit slow to respond. He was not use to Shawn addressing him that way but it didn’t feel uncomfortable.
“What made you come down here?”
“I woke up less than a minute ago. At that time, I noticed that there were no more roars echoing through the forest. Do you know what time they stopped?”
“Yes, they stopped a few minutes before you came down.”
“Did they go silent all at once?”
“Yes, they did. I assumed it was caused by the system.”
Zane nodded in response to Shawn’s answer. He guessed that the system might have done something to cause all the mana creatures to go silent. However, like Shawn, Zane had no way of knowing for sure.
“I guess we’ll wait for dawn to arrive. If the system doesn’t send a message, then we can start waking everyone up.”
Shawn nodded and closed his eyes. Zane looked at the group of humans from another world. He saw that they were in a meditative state and didn’t react to the conversation he had with Shawn. It was likely that all of them learned the meditation skill and did not have the experience necessary to sense people around them. With nothing left to do Zane sat down activated Meditation and started visualizing his skills.
Adventurers the day has begun. Learn. Grow. Level up.
Zane’s eyes shot open when he heard the system message. He looked around and saw that Shawn, Brad and the others were awake. Brad and his friends immediately started talking when they woke. They approached Zane and started asking questions but Zane told them to wait until everyone had gathered. Luckily for them it didn’t take long for everyone to come down.

“Good morning, everyone,” Sophie said. “Were planning on heading back to the village. Will you be joining us?”
“Sure,” Brad said. “Also, we would like to thank you for the help you gave us and teaching us the meditation skill.”
The rest of Brad’s group also voiced their thanks and appreciation for Zane and the others kindness. After exchanging a few more words the group set out. They were jogging back at a comfortable pace for the weakest person. Zane’s party didn’t complain about the slow pace and ran in silence but Brad’s group wanted to talk.
“I never thought there would be a day that I actually enjoyed running,” Frank said. He was a man with dark skin and short dark hair. He was also the slowest person in the group.
“I know what you mean,” Brad responded. “At the gym I would hate doing cardio. It always made me feel weak when I would be out of breath in a few minutes. Now we’ve been running for half an hour and I still feel great.”
“I think part of it has to do with the fact that we can see how much stamina were using,” Sam said. “I also think that the system might have made some changes to our bodies. It’s hard to believe that adding by taking in mana, increasing our stats and leveling up would allow us to improve so much.”
“That’s something for those science types to figure out,” Brad said. “I’m sure once they get a chance to analyze the system, they’ll be able to understand inside and out.”
Zane didn’t complain but he was bored with the slow pace that they were moving att. Sophie told him that he could run ahead like Lana and Luan but he declined. Although the mana creatures became silent, he didn’t want to leave the four of them alone. There were still humans and elves that could harm them. Zane held back the desire to practice his skill and maintained the slow pace that the foreign humans were moving at. As Zane jogged, he admired his surroundings while letting his mind wander. He barely paid attention to the conversation that Brad and the others were having, but that changed when he heard them mention scientist.
“I met a group of humans that told me a little about your scientists,” Zane said. “I wonder if you can tell us about them?”

“Sure,” Brad eagerly answered. “What would you like to know?”
“I managed to obtain what I’ve been told is military weapons. These firearms or guns seemed to be created by scientist and that is all I know about scientist. I would appreciate anything else you could tell me.”
“Woah. You have a gun from the military. Can I see it?”
Sam slapped Brad and spoke. “I’m sure he will let us see it after we answer his question.”
Brad and the others tried to explain what scientist were. They talked about the basics of science and mentioned the fields of science they were familiar with. During their explanation they talked about a few scientific advancements and some of the affects they had.
Zane listened but he wasn’t able to understand. The only thing he was able to grasp was that scientist were like mages. All mages were known to have intense desire to explore and research different topics about the world. It seemed like scientists were doing the same thing but they did it without magic.
During the explanation about scientist the group exited the forest. When Zane exited the forest, he saw the green grass that had lost its blue glow and the large training ground in the distance. Walking in the grass were hundreds of people and each person was in a different physical state. Some people wore rags while others were neatly dressed. Some people were covered in blood while others where dust free. Zane only took a quick glance but it was clear to see that everyone had different experiences during their night in the forest.
“I still can’t believe you were able to leave your world without anyone even reaching the first tier,” Zane said.
“It may be hard to believe but it’s the truth,” Sam said. “We didn’t do it once but several times.”
“Right and you were able to do this with the technology your scientists have created. I’ve experienced the power of your weapons and I’m sure they wouldn’t pose a threat to a high-level tier one expert. If your weapons are that weak then I don’t understand how you can create equipment that can do what tier three experts are incapable of doing.”
“Actually, we have weapons that are much more powerful than the one you showed us,” Brad said. “There’s a good chance that our strongest weapon would be capable of injuring one of your tier four experts.”
Zane shook his head and stopped talking. He didn’t believe that a world without mana would have access to weapons that someone under tier one could use to injure someone at tier four. Somethings were impossible to believe unless you experienced them for yourself. In fact, if someone told him that there were humans on another world, he wouldn’t believe that either. The only reason he could accept this fact so easily was because it was something told to him by a Messenger during a trial authorized by the system.
“If you’re finished its time for us to discuss what we’re going to do next,” Sophie said.
“Sure,” Brad said. “What did you have in mind?”
Zane could see that his question surprised her but she quickly recovered. “I think we should head to the Quest Hall first. We can look for new quest and hand in our old ones. After that I guess we can go tour training areas. Oh, we can also take a look at what’s in the market.” Sophie looked around and saw that nobody had a problem with her suggestion.
“Great. Hand me the mana creature we hunted together and I will sell them before giving everyone a share. Oh, I wasn’t talk to you.” Sophie said to dispel Brad and the others confusion. “My brothers and sister, we hunted several mana creatures before we met you.”
While Sophie explained herself Zane and the others removed the corpses from there space bags. There actions drew a few glances which Zane had expected. What he didn’t expect were for people to start screaming and running away. There actions were unnecessary because they were in area where the system guaranteed their protection. Sophie quickly collected the corpses and placed them in her space bag.
“I didn’t expect us to cause such a commotion.”
“It’s not your fault,” Sam said. “I’m sure it’s because they were traumatized by the forest.”
Sophie nodded. “We’ll let’s get going. We should make the most of all the daytime we have.”

No More Respawns
Synopsis: The first time Allen died, he was forced back into a living hell where death is temporary, and power is all that matters. With evil and depravity as the rule, tragedy becomes comedy and life becomes an act. Only a deal with a shady god can get him back to his old life, but what happens if there’s nothing left to save? Maybe hell isn’t so bad if you have infinite lives… until you don’t. Needless to say, it’s all fun and games until there’s no more respawns. Foreword: This story is meant primarily as an action adventure and secondarily as a dark and nihilistic comedy. It may not be readily apparent in the beginning, but that's what I have planned (I feel the need to emphasize the dark; don’t rage at me if it gets too ‘traumatizing’ or something). I’m going to take my time with this, so it won’t immediately inundate you with doom and gloom. This is also a comedy, remember? On that note, if for some cursed reason you just can't handle either the references or the jokes, I am willing to battle in the comments. Anyway, I still put a significant amount of effort into the system, so I hope you enjoy that part. It is a little bulky, I'll admit to that, but I wanted to try something new and its more fun when there's more depth to it. Regardless, I still have a lot of fun doing math in the middle of writing a fictional story (/s). I also want to see if I can keep from messing up the pacing. Many times, I end up going too fast because I'm afraid of the story getting boring, which tends to ironically have the opposite effect. I'm still learning I suppose; we'll see how things go. Lastly, please leave reviews and comments, they really mean a lot to me and (usually) help me improve considerably. I'll be asking for feedback in the polls and I do still check the old ones from time to time. Notes: The story takes a bit of time to develop; give it time if you're here for drama, grimdark, or antihero. The system is all blue boxes and I'm not half-assing the numbers. Chapters will be between 1k and 2k words usually. I always use the oxford coma, fight me. Might drop if rating falls below 4 stars, idk. It depends on how my life is going. Cover drawn by yours truly in MS paint. (I have skill, I know)

Reading it is NOT necessary to read this story, but for anyone who wants to get a little bit more background, here is a link: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/38803/again-from-scratch Again from Scratch was my first journey into writing and I have taken all I learned from that and started writing Again from Scratch Saga, a continuation that is almost stand alone.
