Lucia's Point of View
Temple
Whatever was happening, all of Helmsforth came to a standstill. In the distance, further than any could see, a battle was taking place. We couldn’t see the combatants, but we could see glimpses of the battle. It was disturbing in such a way that no one spoke. Shakes could be felt all up and down the mountain.
A wall of fire would shoot across the horizon. Other times, it looked like a meteor would suddenly appear before we would be hit with large gusts of wind. Elincia stood next to me as she studied the event to the best of her ability. Even Typhon was with us. There was only one thing that we could hear above the silence. Not the clashing of swords or the battle itself, but the roar of a mysterious creature.
It was unlike the monstrous roar from before. This one was loud in pitch and made my hair stand on end. Even Elincia, who wanted to investigate, stopped herself after hearing it. All of us watched as there was a blue flash in the distance, which was alarming, but the sudden increase of shaking in Helmsforth was more so.
“What is happening!?” Many shouted while others flew into the air.
The answer was a wave of blue energy cutting through the forest and ground like butter. It seemed so slow at first. That is until it missed Helmsforth and went off to the side of the mountain. It eventually dissipated past us and the rest of the capital. However, it left a terrifying mark on the land. Almost like the land itself had been scarred.
“By the gods.” Elincia whispered.
Even without flying over to it, I knew the depth would be impressive. It also concerned me because it missed the town, but it was next to a mountain. Part of me wondered if this incident could weaken the entirety of Helmsforth. Even with magic, it could collapse. Another thought was that if another of those wave’s heads for us, we would be powerless to stop it.

“Arthur…” I whispered.
“You believe Arthur to be behind this?” Elincia inquired.
“I believe that he is involved somehow. All we can do is have faith.”
Typhon quickly added, “That might have been Arthur himself.” Both of us turned to him, and he shrugged. “I have never seen magic do something like that. Besides, Arthur’s energy is blue and purple.” Gesturing to the giant fracture beside the mountain, he continued. “The same color as the wave that did that.”
Elincia sighed. “Part of that is a disturbing thought as well.”
My gaze turned to her. “Why?”
“Because it means that Arthur has either been held back or hindered by us this entire time.” She turned to me. “If that was him, he truly has been rather forgiving towards us.”
I quirked a brow at her. “Towards you and your sister, perhaps.”
Closing her eyes, she nodded. “I deserved that.”
Arthur's Point of View
Deep Forest
Despite everything that’s been happening, I still wasn’t back at full health. It’d been a horrible shit storm of useless events one after another. So, when the wolves suddenly ran into trees and disappeared into them, part of me was grateful. Another part of me wanted to flatten the entire forest in response.
However, it was Kandma who broke me from my darker thoughts. “This is the form you spoke of?” She inquired.
I was floating in the air beside her. “Yeah.”
“I see. It is as you described. Very intimidating and rather vile.”
“I know.” My eyes scanned the surrounding area that was coated in blood and dead canines. “Do you think they’re gone?”
“They’ve returned to their master.” She told me and gestured over to the surrounding trees. “The forest will collect them.”

Sure enough, vines, roots, and other plant-like tendrils moved throughout the area. They came from the trees, burst from the ground, and even the cliff to drag the wolves’ bodies away. Blood was absorbed by the soil, and soon, the only thing that remained was the nearby damage done to the forest. There were no traces of an adversary of any kind.
A sigh escaped my lips. “Do you know how badly I want to take a nap?”

Core Defect
In the 264 years since the Great Singularity Wars, the world has been irrevocably changed. Technologies like nanobots and rogue artificial intelligences have caused the planet's wildlife to evolve in dangerous and powerful ways, pushing humanity to the verge of extinction. However, the remaining survivors are not without ways to fight back. Nanotech can enhance humans just as well as beasts, but perhaps most surprisingly, humanity has found an unexpected ally: a group of human-neutral AIs called Daemons. Val is a 22-year old woman striving to become a User: a nano-empowered human paired with a Daemon that serves as society's final and most powerful line of defense. When a critical issue in her nanosystem's core seemingly leaves her unable to serve as a User, she's given a difficult choice: give up on her dreams or accept a potentially unstable AI, Noir, as her Daemon partner. The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
