The Second Deck, and specifically, Venezia City was odd. Unfortunately, the Arc Guild did not involve itself with investments beyond adventuring and their public loot shop. Captain Gru was waiting for Jen, Sam, and Tamako after they accessed their funds and collected their share of the loot from the ambush. Fortunately, their share of the loot included several storage devices, and they did not have to go through the motions of pretending to buy storage rings before collecting the entirety of their loot.
Captain Gru asked them, “Any idea where you might stay in the City?”
Jen smiled and replied, “Not yet. Any suggestions?”
Captain Gru turned to walk with them and said, “It’s the least I can do. Head over to the shop and get a technique map of all of Venezia City, including the gnome, dwarf, and elf zones.”
Sam texted Jen, “I can't wait to meet them!”
Captain Gru continued, “If you are looking for an inn to stay in for just a few nights, check out the Raven’s Inn. If you are looking for a more permanent place to stay, head to the Stone Guild’s Public Shop and ask for Bruce. He handles their real estate holdings. I would suggest you stay in the human zone unless you hire a guide to take you into one of the other zones. Also, Lt. Rowe and I often head over to the City arena for battle training. Here are our sound wave contacts. We would love to have you join us once you get settled in.”
Jen thanked Captain Gru, but asked one last question before they left. “Do you know where we could find a healer or potion for a damaged mana system? My father overextended his power in the ambush last night, and it severely compromised his ability to use mana.”

Captain Gru cringed when he heard about Sam’s mana system, and said, “I’m not sure what you heard on the First Deck, but I think you would have to go to the Third, and more likely the Fourth Deck to find a healer with that level of ability. I can ask around confidentially if you like?”
Jen could sense the sincerity in Captain Gru’s offer of help, and replied, “Thank you, that would be very helpful.”

[Author's Thoughts] Dropped, obviously. Still, it's my first attempt at a novel and I do love what I did with it. Big step towards learning. Far in the past, there was a civilization much more advanced than the one of modern times. Evidence of that time remains, but it is all but shrouded in mystery as there remains no way to decipher it. Currently, normal individuals wage war with guns and smaller machinery, but those who can wield a higher power vary in their abilities. Scales, born upon humans, are a mystery in their origins but are the source of their abilities and their way towards advancement. Although normally powerless, humans have adapted to the scales and thus can connect with the power of the universe, much like the other races that inhabit its various corners. In one of these corners, there exists a human settlement where Lancing follows his father's footsteps to begin his own ascent to power. However, he finds he is far different from his gifted father, whose scales below his eyes were among the purest ever seen, reaching gem-like quality. Far from perfect, Lancing shows no desire to give up and ceaselessly moves forward to reach the peak of the universe. However, he begins to notice that the mysteries of the universe slowly begin to unravel in front of his eyes. To reach the heavens, Lancing must carve his own path.
