《Endless River (Isekai LitRPG)》Chapter 43 - The Unlucky Rabbit

I only flew for a couple of moments, before I remembered that I missed something.

Food for the camp!

But, it was not something difficult. Especially now with the map and its new function that I just discovered.

After learning that I had two ways to access the content of my inventory, I thought it'd have been great if I had the same ability with my map. Then, I won't have to open the visual panel unless I was still and could focus on it while truly maximizing the benefits of looking at the map from a bird's eye view. It was very difficult to leave the map open at the side and keep looking towards it whenever you need to check when you were moving at a breakneck speed.

Fortunately, I did have it!

I was then able to receive information from the map in real-time, and I filtered out any living creature below Mid Body Refinement in a 600-meter radius, I took a stroll and in less than a minute I found two.

At first, I thought that my spiritual sense would become obsolete now that I was able to just use the map and its real-time information transmission. But as it turned out, it was too mentally taxing and I could not hold it for long due to the staggering amount of information my mind was bombarded with every fraction of a second.

I quickly finished both of them using two wind blades. At this point, fighting Body refinement was child's play.

The two monsters looked like Bison but with a single long pointy horn in the center of their forehead with thick scales all over their bodies.

Looking at their study armor I doubted my ability to break through it, I made sure to aim my wind blades at their throat leaving no chance for them to dodge nor show off their superior defensive capabilities.

Just now, I tried something for the very first time. Previously, the trajectory of my wind blades was set in stone the moment I formed them. They were too rigid in their capabilities after they were formed, but now I was able to move it upwards just as it was about to hit the Bisons' thick sturdy shoulders thus directly splitting their heads off.

I carried the two heavy monsters and brought them to the camp.

"Ohh, The Great Etonin Bison! They are rumored to be the monsters with the highest defense below Foundation Establishment. Once they reach Peak Body Refinement they become simply invincible in their realm, and they even pose a challenge to kill for Low Foundation Establishment. Thankfully it's all due to their outer skin, so we can eat them. Their inner body parts are average, making blunt force or attacks that ignore outward defense a major weakness. "Jia explained after looking at the two tanks I had brought.

"You sure are knowledgeable about monsters," I said as a compliment.

"Just a bit haha, but this one has a reputation." She said and when she turned her eyes away from the monsters she noticed Cai Yi's absence and asked.

Just take the compliment, damn it.

"Don't worry, she's just helping me with something.", I said reassuring her.

After exchanging a few more words I left and headed north with utmost speed.

I could not help but feel a bit nervous about my conversation with the Mama bird.

I was a bit swept away by my emotions and I did not consider that admitting the existence of some secrets would make her react unpredictably?

Maybe scheme and not trust me? Maybe she'd think I killed her original child or just maybe do something to find out the reason for my strength. The appeal for greater strength is very tempting for anyone. Especially here, with real strength, I could only imagine that you could do whatever the heck you wanted as long as you did not encounter someone stronger. Maybe I should've acted clueless and told her that everything was fine? Even though it clearly was not.

Fortunately, though poorly prepared and acted out of impulsion things worked out for the better. The Mama bird was indeed intelligent. More than that she seemed to understand and trusted what I said, giving me a reliable ally.

The moment I find a good opportunity, I'd be teaching her the divine cultivation manual.

I was starting to formulate a plan that'd give me a lot of power, and the moment I told the Mama bird to protect the camp it was already set in motion.

I remembered that I still had not eaten anything and chose to hunt something on my way, without opening the map I sensed a monster hidden in some thick shrubs nearby and went towards it soundlessly.

Unfortunately, even though I was soundless and emitted no life energy that would allow someone to sense my approach.

I still bumped into a very small branch with my left-wing, only for it to move back gently allowing a couple of small rocks that were blocked by the branch to fall making a barely audible sound.

But this was all it took for the monster to be alerted and thus run away directly.

After running away from the dark shrubs, the monster finally showed its appearance.

It looked like a pheasant but it was grey colored all over. Its legs were surprisingly longer relative to the rest of its body and had an equally long tail.

The fact that it noticed my sudden approach due to a lucky incident did not matter to me, it'd only take me a couple of seconds to catch it!

Or so I thought!

At first, I just chased after it slowly from above while it was running at a remarkable speed compared to other High Body Refinement monsters. Just as my wind blade was about to hit thus completely cutting it in half, a gust of wind appeared as if out of nowhere and pushed approximately a meter forward.

*Whoosh* *Whoosh* *Whoosh*

I tried to hit it three other times only for it to dodge by a hair's width every single time! At this point, I could tell that it had some crazy good dodging skill. If we simply look at my Stats, I was at the level of Mid Foundation Establishment, thus a monster of the High Body Refinement to dodge four of my strikes is a testament to how great the skill is.

However, I noticed that the pheasant's eyes or facial expression do not change at all when it dodges, I very much doubted whether someone below Foundation Establishment would be able to react to the speed of my wind blades. Which made me think of the possibility of it having a passive skill that triggers a skill once certain conditions are met. In this case, once it detects offensive mana in the radius of a couple of inches maybe.

The speed with which it was moving was not something worth mentioning compared to mine, I had a total of 195 Agility without Sky Dash. Monsters in the High Body Refinement rank usually have a maximum of 80.

So, I dove down towards it and attacked using my body. I went directly towards its upper neck breaking it before its legs even managed to land on the ground after their previous step.

*BOMM!*

~Ding!

[New Quest Available.]

Just as I killed the grey pheasant and I landed on the ground, I heard a terrifying sound coming directly from the east and received a new quest!

Which was exactly the reason I came to this forest in the first place!

I hurriedly put the pheasant's body in my inventory, opened the quest panel, and rushed stealthily eastward.

``

New Quest: The Unlucky Rabbit

Description: A young rabbit was foraging for food as it does whenever it gets hungry, only for it to encounter a dreadful monster that swore to eat it alive just because it trespassed its territory.

Goal: Kill the assailant and help the rabbit escape.

Rewards: 200 Karma Points, 15.000 Experience Points, 5 Free Stats Points, and 2 Skill Points.

``

200 Karma Points!

The higher the rewards the more risk involved.

It did not take a long while to find out why, the dark brown drake!

Currently, it was rushing directly in my direction following what looked like a Peak Body Refinement black rabbit.

The rabbit looked ferocious, its body was covered with open wounds from all the debris and the after effect of the spears it was able to dodge thus far. Its eyes were red and looked sinister, but there was no viciousness in those eyes only pure unadulterated fear of death.

The rabbit was using the shrubs, trees, and branches as a way to limit his exposure to the drake, thus having a higher chance to dodge the earth spears that kept magically sprouting from the ground to tear him apart.

However, I knew it was pointless. The drake must've locked into him with his spiritual sense, whether it was able of seeing it with its own eyes or not made no difference whatsoever.

It was only draining its energy and stamina in a hope-driven decision that would inevitably end with its death.

Description: The Lesser Vordine drakes are distant descendants of the True Earth-Dragon. Thanks to their bloodline, they have very strong defenses and a high affinity towards earth elements. A rounder monster with a very strong physical defense and prowess, their only weakness lies in their low spiritual resistance.

]

The drake was even taller than me, reaching three meters with a long body of almost eight meters. Its body was covered with darkish brown scales, which looked especially durable. Its body closely resembled how we depicted western dragons in my previous world, without the wings.

Even with all of those terrifying and mighty body parts, the most remarkable part about the drake was the face!

Two long horns at the side, wide and sharp nostrils, a mouth filled with dagger-like teeth that gave the impression of being able to shred everything on earth, and two terrifying golden eyes with vertical slits as pupils in the middle.

Too fucking scary!

With every step it took, and every spear it formed I felt a huge weight around my heart as if it was being slowly devoured by this beast.

Not due to some skill, of course, just the pure pressure and energy this monster gave off.

A strong pressure both biological and psychological as a result of everything that was mentioned before made one's heart palpitate.

*Pheww*

I breathed out and focused on how I should proceed.

At the end of the day, I was still someone on the same level of strength as it.

I was even stronger than it in terms of Agility, Spirit, and Intelligence. Thus, I was faster, sharper, and had deadlier attacks. So, it was not something that would make me fearful to the point of not moving!
