《Endless River (Isekai LitRPG)》Chapter 6 - Surrounded

I hurriedly finished eating the rest of the body and returned to the nest. Standing beside the siblings I could tell that I was bigger than them by a large margin. I hadn't noticed it before, I'll ask the system later because it was not exactly the time for it now.
Lo and behold, I was right! My worst nightmare just became a reality.
I could see dozens of shadowy figures making their way over here, some of them are on the ground but the majority were in the trees.
We were surrounded.
I could not run, they were too fast. If I had any feathers on my wings I'd have easily flown away but now?
All I could do was wait for death.
Where the fuck is that Mama bird?
Just leaving her children like this in the middle of fucking nowhere.
*Bang!*
A rock hit the bark of a nearby tree, leaving a big dent in it.
I turned to see where it came from, only to see a Dark Vunamian Mandrill just like the last one.
I could tell that they were of the same rank just from his size and the speed with which he threw the rock.
It was a close one, I immediately launched two wind blades overlapping with each other.
Thanks to the fact that my [Wind Blade] was Advanced, I could use it more flexibly.
*Vvwhooosh*
Everything about the blade looked different this time.
Larger, faster, more compressed thus more damage.
In just a fraction of a second, the two wind blades severed the head of the Mandrill from the rest of its body.
*Thudd* *THUDD!*
The body tilted from the branch and fell to the ground below.
[You have Killed a Body Refinement(Mid) Monster |Experience Points +2000|]
Even though I just killed this big monster, it brought me no joy.
Just the opposite, the situation was becoming more and more hopeless because the other monsters also realized something!
This wasn't your run-of-the-mill defenseless prey, but something they had to be wary of.
*Roarr*
The moment I heard that roar, I was frightened out of my wits!
It was a pressure I had never felt before.

*Boom!!*
A black figure jumped from a branch up high that I had not even noticed before, and landed on a big thick branch almost crushing it under its weight.
When I saw it, my heart skipped a beat!
This Dark Vunamian Mandrill was considerably larger compared to the ones in the Mid Body Refinement rank, which only meant one thing.
He was either a High, Peak or worse a monster of The Foundation Establishment realm!
I immediately appraised it.

]
I'm dead!
The Vunamian Mandrill looked at me with an evil smirk, it was not just the eyes no!
There was an evil grin plastered on its face.
The kind of grin you'd expect to see on a sadistic psycho who gets off from torturing other people.
I was shaken! I felt like I was in the palm of a monster and I had no way to resist because that was exactly what was happening.
*Screech...*
Thanks to the bodies I ate earlier plus my mana regeneration, I had around half of my total mana, including the one I spent in the previous fight.
I'll try to bait, just like I did to the one before it.
Fortunately, I looked very miserable.
A Low Body Refinement baby monster who had not even grown its feathers yet, my appearance was very pitiful and did not evoke any feeling of danger at all.
Just a weak helpless lamb waiting to be slaughtered...
I started moving around the nest slowly with my broken wing dangling by the side, it hurt like hell and I couldn't even move it.

Sigh... why am I even still struggling? There was just no way I could get out of this, If I'm lucky I can kill this fella, but so what?
I was sure that there were dozens like him, I could even see the others closing in.
I sat down and stopped moving while looking at the incoming monster...
If I had a skill that used Spiritual attacks I'd have messed them up pretty badly... but there were no Ifs in life.
*Vwhoooooooshh*
Just as the big monkey was less than 40 meters from me, I instantly created four wind blades intersecting with each other.
This was by far my strongest attack yet, and its speed was incomparable to anything I had ever seen in my life. Coupled with the fact that he was very close, he couldn't even process what happened.
*Splatter*
His head was chopped off from the rest of his body, creating a twisted beautiful yet bloody fountain.
[You have Killed a Body Refinement(High) Monster |Experience Points +4000|]
[Congratulations Host for Leveling up from 6 to 8. +10 Stat Points, +8 Skill Points.]
I hurriedly put my newly gained 10 Stats Points in Vitality.
I could feel my condition improving at a fast speed because every base Stat that I add gets a +140% Boost from Blazing Heart and The Stranger.
I was becoming very powerful, but so what?
*Bangg!!*
A rock flying at an astounding speed passed by, It only missed me by a hair's width.
Shit, but why did It sound like it hit something?
The moment I thought of that I had a very terrible feeling.
Turning around, all I could see in the nest was blood!
I was petrified! The rock hit the male baby chick and he immediately exploded into a mess of blood, feathers, and body parts all over the nest!
I froze!
Death...! Again!
Before, I was so engrossed in fighting and thinking of ways to kill the incoming monster, that I had not felt much fear.
I was feeling too overpowered due to my recent upgrades and deep down I thought that I could get out of it, but now?
I could feel death slowly creeping in...
*Roaaarrrr!!*
I heard a roar even more dreadful than that of the previous monster. A roar that penetrated the depth of my being wanting to devour it!
Because I killed the last monster, the others that were slowly closing in on us were shocked so they stepped back.
The branches were eerily quiet, even though I could see several Dark Vunamian Mandrills in them.
They seemed to be looking below, frightened!
I followed their gaze only to see a giant Dark Vunamian Mandrill, unlike any I had seen before!
It was easily 3 meters tall, standing before this mighty Mandrill all of the others look insignificant. Making even the High stage Mandrills come across as infants.
It looked the same as the others, yet everything about it felt different.
The roar, the pressure, the eyes, the facial expressions...
My heart felt heavy...

A Peak-level monster...
The monster suddenly moved, he was moving very slowly.
Taking its time in every little movement, like an emperor who feels that it's beneath them to rush...
It was moving towards a rock, and the moment I saw that my heart almost jumped out of my chest.
By now, I was all too familiar with what that implied.
It carried the rock with one arm and stood up on its hind legs.
Looking in my direction, there wasn't even any trace of mocking or gloating in them.
They gave off the feeling of someone who's doing something beneath them, maybe if they were not bored they might not even bother.
Black smoke started to rise and gather on the arm that was carrying the rock.

This is my third novel on Royal Road, the first being "Beyond the Horizon's Eye", and the second being "The Dawnfire Archives". This story is something of a test in a new genre, that of CardLIT. We'll see how well it succeeds as the story continues. It takes place in a different setting than my other tales, with an entirely new cast of characters. It does, however, contain several ties between the stories. Average post between 1000 - 3000 words.
