《Dungeon from the Void》B3 | Chapter 58 - Misfortune or Fortune?

"So?" Kat asks with a curious look on her face as she sits across from my desk on the leather chair meant for guests. "What did you want to speak about?"
I purse my lips for a second as I remember how I got into this situation.
A few hours ago
"Even if you keep it a secret from the others, you could at least tell Kat," Pallus says with a brow raised, "after all, her father already knows, doesn't he?"
I frown at his words before laying back in my chair and looking up at the ceiling.
Why do I get the feeling that that isn't the only reason he thinks I should trust her?
A few minutes pass in silence before he adds, "They are your party. It's only right that they know your capabilities."
I look back down at him as he continues, "Besides, they have already shown you their magic skills, so why don't you trust them?"
They did show me their skills...
"Besides," Pallus adds with a smirk, "you're the City Lord of a Dungeon City, and your own territories' owner, not to mention that you're far away from any Elves, so I doubt keeping your race a secret is as important as you might think."
This statement makes me straighten in my seat before looking him in the eyes.
I never really thought about that. What could others do to me if my status as a Hybrid was known to the public?
It's not like they could do that much unless they wanted to either declare war, which isn't a good idea considering the connections I have now, or wanted to be banned from a new - and rather unique - dungeon.
After a few seconds of thought, I sigh in defeat, immediately drawing a large grin out of Pallus as I say, "Fine. I'll tell Kat at least, and depending on her reaction, I might tell the others as well."

"But I'm still not going to mention anything about my family," I add with my arms crossed.
Well, I might as well show her instead of telling her. It would be faster that way.
With a brief sigh that has Kat raising an eyebrow, I raise my hands to my helmet and begin unfastening the straps.
Surprisingly, Kat lets out a gasp of surprise as I'm doing this.
I then hear her mutter, "Holy shit," after I take the helmet off completely before focusing my attention on her to find her eyes practically glued to my pointed ears.
"An Elf...?" she mutters before her eyes grow wide and she shakes her head. "No, a Hybrid!"
Soon after her muttering, I find her examining my face and head overall - likely due to it being the first time she has seen me without a helmet on, even if I occasionally take the strap in front of my mouth off for comfort reasons.
Then again, my appearance is rather different from the norm in this area. My eyes are a blood red, my hair is a cleaner and darker black than most of the Humans from The Drezar Kingdom, and my ears are about halfway between the lengths of a Human's and an Elf's ears.
It takes a full minute of silence before I clear my throat to catch her attention with an eyebrow raised.
She breaks out of her little stupor with a light blush before saying, "That at least partially explains how you have a magic skill."
My eyebrow arcs even higher at her blunt act of ignoring what had just happened before shaking my head.
"Yep," I answer her before waiting a few seconds to study her reaction.
Interestingly enough, she doesn't seem to care all that much. In fact, she is already acting just as she was before learning about my race.

I let out a light sigh of relief before mentally thanking Pallus for the push.
Turns out he was right after all.

"Seriously?!" Erik shouts with a large frown covering his face.
Dawn giggles as the party of intruders fall back to reenter the room, giving themselves more room to fight and forcing my monsters to have to enter through the door to follow them.
The annoyance on Erik's face lightens a little bit now that they are in a better position before he begins giving out various orders to the other intruders.
I watch alongside Dawn as the group slowly begins to pick off the human monsters as they come through the door.
"If only my monsters weren't so stupid," I mutter with annoyance, making Dawn giggle for a moment.
She then says, "Just wait until you can have dozens of higher leveled, mana-infused monsters on a single floor. Then you won't have to worry about situations like this."
I don't say anything in response as we both watch most of the normal monsters die off, with the void human not being able to do all that much with the limited space available.
"It might be a good idea to make the doors wider in the fortress though," Dawn mutters whilst glowing a faint yellowish-green.
A few seconds pass as the void monster tries to send void arcs through the narrow doorway, only for some of them to hit other human monsters before being blocked by Erik's shield again.
"I will do that after they finish with the fortress," I mutter with a glance at Erik's shield.
At least the shield is falling apart. So there is some use for the void human in this fight.
Then again, it might have just been better to order him to retreat and fight them at a different location; one where they can't just hide behind a doorway and a mob of stupid monsters.
But then I would be interfering in the battle, and I don't want to set a precedence like that.
Not to mention that it would be difficult to do in the first place, what with their auras making it difficult for me to mess with anything down there.
A faint pulse of light flashes from my core in my annoyance as one of Corbin's arrows flies straight over the monsters' heads into the void human's forearm, causing it to drop its sword with a cry of pain.
And it doesn't take long for the intruders to finish off the rest of the monsters now that the void human isn't attacking.
I turn my attention away from the fight, deciding not to even finish watching it as I tell Dawn, "I'm going to go cultivate. Tell me when they leave the fortress so that I can fix it."

This is my first story here on RRL and it's becomming one of the things I look forward to working on each day. As of June 2020, the story description has been updated (now that the characters have told me what was actually going on this author thought it prudent to update this) . Updates will be sporatic as i have time to juggle real life with writing. You the readers have become an integral part of the story helping to decide how things will progress, so enjoy the story and please leave a review or rating so this author can continue to improve the story. New chapters coming soon with edits to existing ones in process As a side note, I wish I could add a science tag to this. While this is still fiction, I have been incorporating real life scientific theories and explanations for how things could be *plausibly* explained. (No, I will not lecture on these points, but they are added to author notes) ~badw0lf
