《Dungeon from the Void》B3 | Chapter 46 - Finding The Memorial

"A slate?" the party leader mutters before raising his hand, causing the others to stop moving and prepare for a fight.

The Human – I believe his name was Erik – turns to look at the Halfling and asks, "Can you read it from here?"

My void arachnae quietly creeps across the ceiling towards their location while the Halfling squints his eyes at the slate.

I guess it makes sense that an archer would have good eyesight.

"The slate says that this area is a memorial to the Arachnid breakout that occurred a little while ago..." the Halfling says before his eyes widen as he continues, "and it says that no one has completed it as of yet."

This statement makes all of the intruders raise their guards even further as the Undine mutters, "Which means that we aren't finished here yet."

As it on cue, over a dozen arachnids burst out of various holes in the walls and ceiling right before the void arachnae jumps down from a partially hidden location on the ceiling to pounce on the Dwarf in the back.

Unfortunately, just like what happened when this party fought Ashina, the Human activates a skill the moment he notices the void arachnae and suddenly swaps places with the Dwarf while raising his shield to block its pounce.

"That skill is annoying," I mutter, to which Dawn bobs her current wolf head up and down in agreement.

The sudden change in target confuses the arachnae mid-fall, but it quickly gets over it as it lands on Erik's shield, pushing him to his knees as the rest of the party breaks into action and begins slaughtering the arachnids to get to him.

"Damn it!" Erik grunts as one of the void arachnae's claws slips around his shield and cuts into his arm, infecting it with the arachnae's void venom.

He grimaces as he sees the black venom spreading through his veins before he shouts through gritted teeth, "Don't get cut by its claws! It's coated in some sort of venom!"

The Undine suddenly raises her hands after clearing all of the arachnids out of in between her and Erik before she shouts, "Fire Blade!" and swipes both of her hands downwards, sending out some sort of fire-based attack in the shape of an x.

The spell flies straight towards the arachnae before striking it in its side right as it lightly cuts Erik's other arm before sending it flying off of his shield with a screech.

"Fuck!" Erik grunts before ignoring the pain as he gets up and moves towards the others.

Surprisingly, the Dwarf actually walks up to him as the others carefully approach the arachnae before he casts some sort of spell on him.

"He can heal?" I mutter in confusion before asking no one in particular, "If that's the case, then why hasn't he been..."

I trail off as I see the black venom begin to fade away while still leaving the wounds on Erik's arms.

Some sort of cure spell for poisons or venoms then?

Well, that at least explains a little bit as to why the Dwarf is here.

That said, he still stays in the back most of the time without fighting, which is quite a bit different from the healer in the Hybrid's party that also fights.

As I am thinking about this, the rest of the party team up to finish off the wounded void arachnae whilst getting cut – and infected – a couple of times in the process before the Dwarf cures them as well.

If I could sigh, then I probably would right now.

As soon as the arachnae dies, a short sword made out of World Ore appears in its place, surprising all of the intruders.

The Dwarf rushes over to the sword and picks it up before his eyes go wide and a bright smile splits his face from ear to ear as he shouts, "This is made out of World Ore!!!"

"Wait, seriously?" the leader grunts as he gets back to his feet and approaches the Dwarf to look at the sword.

"Yes!" the Dwarf – I think his name was Baldur or something – exclaims before raising the sword while shouting, "this sword alone is worth a fortune!"

Oh.

Maybe I should change the reward then...

Whatever.

Too late now to take it back from them, so they can keep it. They were the first to get through this memorial anyways.

Speaking of the memorial...

My enchantment on the slate activates and a light plume of fire bursts from the slate before the wording on it changes to list each of their party members as having cleared it.

I watch my enchantment with a sense of pride.

That took forever to make!

All of the intruders take a startled step back from the slate before they slowly begin to approach it after the flames die down.

"This place is full of surprises, now isn't it?" the Undine mutters as they all read the new additions to the slate.

The others all nod in agreement as the Dwarf continues gushing over the sword.

I guess I got really lucky that Dawn found us some World Ore. If his reaction is anything to go by that is...

Erik stares at the slate before muttering, "There are probably going to be quite a few people who would be interested in getting their name inscribed on this slate..."

Elisah – the Elf – nods in agreement as she says, "That's true. Cultivators in general do tend to have a bit of an ego to them."

"That said," Erik adds before turning to look at Baldur with an amused look on his face, "there will probably be even more people who want that than there are people who would come for the slate."

Based off of all of the gibberish that the Dwarf has been muttering to the sword, I think it's safe to say that he is some sort of blacksmith...

The entire party – excluding Baldur who is still treating the sword as if it was his baby – chuckle in amusement before turning serious as Erik says, "Let's go finish the dungeon."
