《Dungeon from the Void》B3 | Chapter 25.5 - Rematch! Part 2

Leon
I keep an eye on the wolf as Pallus begins explaining his plan.
"We should get the monster over to that narrow bridge over there," Pallus shouts while pointing at the very same bridge that Kat had activated the traps on. "The monster will have its movement restricted since the bridge is so narrow. Meanwhile, since it will only be able to face one side of the bridge at a time due to the limited space, we will be able to flank it while Rose shoots at it."
That actually sounds like a pretty-
I roll to the side to dodge another breath attack from the monster.
-good plan.
I wish he would stop doing that.
"Let's try it!" I shout back to Pallus before slowly maneuvering towards the bridge.
The wolf carefully watches me move without following after me.
Well, that could be a problem.
I look past the wolf to Pallus and nod my head.
He returns the nod and rushes towards the wolf to attack.
I fire a lightning bolt at the wolf to cover up the sound of Pallus' approach despite knowing that it won't damage it.
The monster ignores the lightning bolt as it strikes it directly in the face.
Seconds later, the wolf staggers forwards with a whimper before turning its head towards Pallus who sprints by it towards me with a light trail of blood dripping off of his sword.
Meanwhile, Kat takes Pallus' place behind it so that it doesn't move backwards.
Although, this turns out to be unnecessary as the wolf begins to sprint after Pallus in a rage.
So far so good.
I follow after Pallus towards the bridge as the wolf chases behind us.
"Watch out!" I hear Kat shout from behind us.
Both Pallus and I roll to the sides as we reach the bridge before a surge of black flames goes straight through where we were just standing.
"That one was way too close for my liking," I mutter as I get up and continue running across the bridge with Pallus following closely behind me.

We both stop as we pass the narrowest portion of the bridge before turning around to face the wolf.
The wolf skids to a stop before warily glancing between the two of us.
It must have realized that something was up.
I was really hoping that it would stay in that rage without considering its surroundings, but if that's not the case...
"Rose!" I shout, prompting her to shoot an arrow into the monster's rear leg.
It lets out a loud whine before growling in anger and turning around towards Rose, only to find Charles and Kat blocking it from crossing the other side of the bridge.
That will work.
I turn at Pallus before nodding and rushing in with both swords to attack the wolf's flanks.
Rose shoots another arrow at the monster of which it tries to dodge.
Unfortunately for the wolf, it doesn't exactly have the space to dodge, so it ends up slipping partially into the lava and getting burnt before barely managing to pull back out.
I slash both of my blades across the wolf's rear legs at the same time that Pallus thrusts his blade into its side.
The wolf lets out a loud mix of a growl and a whine as its back half struggles to remain standing.
Fenrir
It looks like this battle is finishing up.
"I'm impressed with how they utilized the environment of the room to help them kill the beowolf," Dawn mutters as we watch the intruders finish it off.
"Yeah, it was interesting to see," I say as the wolf finally falls to the ground dead from blood loss.
I guess they finally got their rematch.
"So, are we going to head back to the surface now?" Pallus asks the Hybrid.
Oh yeah, I forgot that they said that they would leave to report to the Guild after reaching the EXP cap for the floor.
I guess I am going to have to wait for someone else to test the boss...
"Yeah, assuming we have all reached the EXP cap by now?" the Hybrid asks, to which the others all nod in agreement.

"Alright, let's go then," the Hybrid continues as he sheaths his swords.
I watch the intruders for a few minutes as they begin to leave the dungeon before turning my attention towards the tower as a whole.
They were a pretty good test for the fifth floor, but I think I should change the tower up a little bit.
The tower felt a little bit too easy for them to get through, so I should add some new monsters here and there to raise the difficulty a little bit.
I am interrupted from my work a few minutes after the intruders leave my dungeon as a strange rumbling begins to echo throughout the fourth and fifth floors.
"What's happening?" I mutter before searching through my dungeon to investigate.
I find Dawn glowing green out of anxiety as she asks, "What's going on Fenrir? Why are the walls shaking?"
"I don't know," I answer her as I continue searching through the dungeon for the source of the disturbance.
It's a good thing the Hybrid's party just left during the middle of the night, otherwise there would be intruders inside right now.
It could cause problems if they thought I was doing something that might harm the city.
Or at least that's what Dawn said before.
That I shouldn't cause any problems for the city until I am at least strong enough to defend myself against Tier 3 Cultivators.
The strange rumbling increases more and more the longer I search.
It takes me a few more minutes, but I finally manage to pinpoint the origin of the rumbling to a corner of my fifth floor.
"The shaking seems to be coming from this wall..." I tell Dawn as she focuses her attention on where I am looking.
"Can't you sense what is beyond the wall?" Dawn asks me.
"Nope. I expanded this wall to the limit of my senses, so I can't sense any further than this point," I explain to her, regretting my actions now.
Dawn turns yellow as she says, "You probably shouldn't do that anymore."
"Probably," I agree as the rumbling comes to a sudden stop.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Just in case...
'Gather here,' I order dozens of nearby monsters.
I then spawn in several new monsters around the point of origin.
"Now to wait," I say to Dawn.
Several minutes pass by in silence.
"Nothing is happening," Dawn says to me.
"Yeah, I can see tha-"
The wall suddenly explodes outwards, killing a couple of my wolves in the process before several silhouettes rush through the dust.
Shit!
'Stop whatever those are!' I order all of the monsters in the area.
A void direwolf that happened to be in the area at the time leaps straight at one of the silhouettes and sinks his teeth into it before tossing it out of the dust.
It lands on its back next to several of my monsters as some of its eight strange looking legs twitch.
Knowledge of a new pattern enters my mind the moment the strange creature dies.
"These things are... Arachnids?" I mutter in surprise.
It has eight thin, hairy legs and two large pincer like things next to its mouth.
The thing is about half a meter in length and is only slightly over a foot in height.
"Did you just say Arachnids?!" Dawn shouts in what sounds like fear.
"Yeah, I even got a pattern for it," I cautiously answer.
Why does she seem so afraid of these things?
Dawn turns purple in what I can only guess is fear as she says, "Arachnids are a type of Spawn! Kill all of them! Kill them as fast as possible before they try to destroy your core!"
Oh.
Dozens of Arachnids rush into my dungeon through the new hole as my monsters begin clashing with them.
This.... could be a problem.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
