《Dungeon from the Void》B3 | Chapter 23 - Luck is a Fickle Thing

"What's up with this dungeon anyways?" Pallus mutters as we walk through the corridor of a maze.
Hmm?
I turn towards Pallus and ask, "What do you mean?"
Pallus is surprised for a second before he says, "Oh, it's just that this dungeon has a strange element, unusual monsters, and now it's apparently intelligent enough to create new creatures? Don't you think it's a little strange?"
"He has a point," Kat interjects from ahead of us before pointing out a trap in the narrow corridor.
That's true...
"Do you think that this dungeon is fundamentally different from the other dungeons in some way?" Charles asks as we avoid the trap.
Everyone falls silent as we ponder this.
A wolf suddenly pounces from around the corner, but Rose fires an arrow into its throat before it can get near us.
"I don't think the dungeon is different per se. It's probably just a dungeon core with a higher-than-average intelligence that uses some sort of rare element," I give my opinion after thinking over it for a few minutes.
Pallus glances at me with a curious look on his face, "You think?"
I nod as we turn the corner in the maze to find a door.
"Did we find the end of the level?" Kat mutters before glancing at me.
I shrug before approaching the door.
"Everyone ready?" I ask the others.
I open the door after everyone gives me the go ahead.
We all fall completely silent as we stare at the strange room in front of us.
"So, what is this room?" Pallus asks in the silence.
I notice a slate a few seconds later, so I walk over to it as I survey the room.
The room is in the shape of a large square and doesn't have a single monster in it at all. Instead, it has dozens of strange squares spread out across the floor; each with a wolf's head engraved upon it.

What could those squares be for?
I stop in front of the slate before reading it.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
There are thirty squares throughout the floor.
These squares will move down into the ground when all of the intruders within the room are on a separate square.
Six of these squares will take the intruder to the stairs to the next level while the remaining twenty-four squares will bring them to a room with a couple of monsters who will attack as soon as the square reaches the ground.
If an intruder chooses one of the six squares, then it will lock into place as the hole above it seals shut, blocking the other intruders from jumping down.
Choose wisely or pay the price.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
"Seriously?" I mutter as the others finish reading it as well.
A solo room?
It looks like the squares are meant to split us up while adding a bit of luck to the room.
"This is going to be interesting," Pallus says as he scratches his chin.
I look at the others and notice Rose acting unusually nervous.
Oh yeah, this room is pretty bad for archers, isn't it?
Rose notices my look and shakes her head no.
Oh?
I guess she thinks that she can handle it.
In that case...
"Rose, don't pick your first-choice square. Pick two squares and go to the second one. Or better yet, you could just let someone else pick for you," I say before turning to pick my own square.
I step onto the square closest to the entrance before turning around to look at the others.
Rose is – unsurprisingly – pouting at me while everyone else seems to agree with my statement.
What does surprise me is when Rose sighs and seems to go along with what I told her to do without a fuss.

Wait, what?
That is still Rose... right?
She looks at one square before going to another square.
Wow.
She is actually doing it without a fuss!
The others look just as surprised as I am before they move to go find their own squares.
I wait for a minute before the ground below me suddenly begins to move downwards.
Well, here's hoping I picked one of the six squares...
Unfortunately, my luck fails me as I soon enter a small room with two normal wolves and one bipedal wolf in it – all patiently staring straight at me.
I hope Rose had better luck than I did, but knowing her, I seriously doubt it.
The square slowly begins to raise back into the ceiling with me on it after I finish dealing with the monsters.
Time to see how Rose is doing.
I immediately search around the room for Rose as I return to the room with all of the squares.
"Where is she?" I mutter after not being able to find her.
Pallus and Charles look around the room as well with worried expressions on their faces.
Is it possible that she died...?
Suddenly, a loud noise can be heard from the general area I remember seeing Rose go to while picking her square.
Huh?
I walk over to the noise and find a square depression in the ground with two right triangles extending from the walls of the tunnel sealing it off from us.
"Did she... there's no way..." I mutter as I stare dumbfoundedly at the tunnel.
The other three all reach me from their own squares which were further away from this one than mine.
Each of them has a different reaction upon seeing the strangely sealed off tunnel.
Kat just stares at it in a stunned silence while Pallus gapes in shock.
"She actually chose one of the correct squares..." Charles mutters in surprise.
We all stare at the tunnel in silence.
Rose... actually managed to win out in something based on luck...
Fenrir
"Fenrir!" I hear Dawn shout in aggravation as I am cultivating.
I stop cultivating before asking in a rush, "What's wrong?!"
She doesn't lose her composure very often, so it must be important for her to freak out like that!
"The intruder Rose actually chose the correct square on her first try in the final room of the second level!" Dawn frantically shouts at me.
Huh?
Rose chose the correct square... first try...
"What!?"
The girl with the worst luck I have ever seen actually managed to get lucky in a luck-based room!

But things aren't going to be easy, as the further he plunges into his world, the more he will realize things aren't quite what he thought them to be.
