Fartooth’s Attack Roll TDK: 1d20+25 = 35 (Miss)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll TDK: 1d20+25 = 43 (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+10 = 15 (Piercing)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll TDK: 1d20+20 = 35 (Miss)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll TDK: 1d20+15 = 34 (Miss)
Fartooth turned his attention to the death knight, unleashing another barrage. Unfortunately, only one arrow struck home, the others just bouncing off his armor. “I’m thinking this one is the big threat, now that the caster lady is gone.”
Maere’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+9 = 11 (Fail)
Bertio’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+12 = 27 (Success)
EG1’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+7 = 17 (Fail)
EG2’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+7 = 21 (Fail)
EG3’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+7 = 17 (Fail)
EG4’s Will Save (Confusion): 1d20+7 = 17 (Fail)
Siora nodded. “My spells are no good against a death knight, but I’ll help make sure that even if they get free, these thugs won’t be able to properly defend themselves.” With that said, she flew forward on her demon wings, and unleashed another spell over the frozen guards. Unfortunately, the spell did not take on the Lord Mayor, but, if the heart in Vestele’s hand was the real thing, that problem would resolve itself real soon.
Lingering Acid Damage (TDK): 4d6 = 14 (Acid)
Lingering Acid Damage (EG4): 2d6 = 8 (Acid)
Melinda’s Concentration Check: 1d20+35 = 49 (Success)
Chilling Tentacles Grapple (Bertio): 1d20+28 = 29
Bertio’s Grapple Check: 1d20+9 = 24 (Fail, Grappled)
Chilling Tentacles Damage: 2d6 = 6 (Cold)
I wasn’t going to just leave that to chance, however. The guy looked like a spellcaster of some kind, and if he could break free of Siora’s spell, then he likely was powerful enough that he could go for help, even if he died when he got there. That was not something I wanted to see.
So, I ignored the enemy in front of me, and dropped a spell on the mage and his frozen friends. Black tentacles rose up from the ground and ensnared him, as an icy mist spread through the area. Oh, the tentacles got the rest of the creatures, but they couldn’t exactly resist in the first place. “That should keep him from running off.”
EG1’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 24 (Fail)
EG2’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 16 (Fail)
EG3’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 20 (Fail)
EG4’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 24 (Fail)
The guards, still helpless against Siora’s first spell, were unable to protest the additional spells layered on them. But that wasn’t my problem. I was keenly aware that the same could be done to us, though, thankfully, our group was more balanced than these guards. It would be harder for someone to lock us all down like we’d done to them.
TDK’s Attack (Melinda): 1d20+25 = 31 (Miss)
TDK’s Attack (Melinda): 1d20+20 = 37 (Miss)
TDK’s Attack (Melinda): 1d20+15 = 29 (Miss)
TDK’s Attack (Melinda): 1d20+10 = 21 (Miss)
The death knight was… less than pleased that I was ignoring him. Fair enough, no one likes someone ignoring them in a fight. But he quickly found out that I was paying enough attention to him to avoid his blows when he started trying to slash me. I wasn’t an idiot, after all.

Maere’s Will Save: 1d20+9 = 11 (Fail)
Bertio’s Spellcraft check: 1d20+24 = 41 (Success)
Bertio’s Grapple Check: 1d20+9 = 22
Chilling Tentacles’ Grapple Check: 1d20+28 = 45 (Success)
The guy by the Lord Mayor’s side was no more able to resist the spells laid upon him than his men, and he was failing spectacularly at protecting his boss. Said boss was in a panic, no doubt realizing just what spell Vestele had cast on him, and was desperately trying to escape the tentacles so that he could do something, anything, to save his hide. Too bad my tentacles were far stronger than he was.
Ebonheart’s Horn (TDK): 1d20+29 = 45 (Hit)
Damage: 1d8+11 = 13
Vile: 1 Vile damage
Ebonheart’s Hoof (TDK): 1d20+27 = 42 (Hit)
Damage: 1d4+6 = 8
Vile: 1 Vile damage
Ebonheart’s Hoof (TDK): 1d20+27 = 40 (Hit)
Damage: 1d4+6 = 9
Vile: 1 Vile damage
Ebonheart’s Bite (TDK): 1d20+27 = 41 (Hit)
Damage: 1d8+6 = 11
Vile: 1 Vile damage (Dead)
Ebonheart snarled, and avenged himself for his earlier embarrassment. Horn, hooves, and a vicious bite, the black unicorn was a flurry of violence as he trampled the death knight. And when he was done, the death knight had been returned to death.
Vestele moved forward, and the whip and shield she had been carrying were magically replaced with a javelin that glowed with brilliant light. She did not throw the weapon, however. Instead, she simply readied it, eyes locked on the Lord Mayor, ready to throw if he got free of the tentacles.

Fartooth’s Attack roll (Maere): 1d20+27 = 43 (Hit)
Random Grappler: 1d2 = 1 (Maere)
Damage: 1d6+10 = 12 (Piercing)
Fartooth moved up in front of Vestele, and carefully aimed his psychic bow. The arrow flew straight and true, and slipped between the writhing tentacles grappling the warrior in his spiky armor, to strike him in the shoulder. The kobold shook his head. “This almost feels like cheating, somehow.”
Siora’s Mass Whelm Damage: 10d6 = 32 (Nonlethal)
Maere’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+9 = 16 (Fail)
Bertio’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+12 = 28 (Success)
EG1’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 16 (Fail)
EG2’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 16 (Fail)
EG3’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 12 (Fail)
EG4’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 26 (Success)
Siora laughed as she threw a spell to stagger the bound, confused, and grappled guards. “Of course, it is cheating, Fartooth. But fair fights are for training, where you are giving an exhibition. When the fight is happening for real, all that matters is that you live and they die.”
Lingering Acid Damage (EG4): 2d6 = 12 (Acid)
Chilling Tentacles Damage: 2d6 = 8 (Cold)
Chilling Tentacles Grapple (Bertio): 1d20+28 = 46
Bertio’s Grapple Check: 1d20+9 = 11 (Fail)
Chilling Tentacles Grapple Damage: 1d6+4 = 10 (Bludgeoning)
“Very true, Siora.” I chuckled as I flew lazily forward, allowing the tentacles to do their work. I could probably just let them handle everything, but where would the fun in that be? “Tell you what, Fartooth. When the Lord Mayor dies, I’ll drop the tentacle spell, so we can finish things up close, instead of just toying with them.”

EG1’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 15 (Fail)
EG2’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 10 (Fail)
EG3’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 24 (Fail)
EG4’s Will Save: 1d20+7 = 19 (Fail)
Maere’s Will Save: 1d20+9 = 28 (Success)
Bertio’s Grapple Check: 1d20+9 = 22
Chilling Tentacles’ Grapple Check: 1d20+28 = 45 (Success)
The guards struggled again, and failed to shake off Siora’s spell. Their leader, however, finally managed to break free from the paralysis. He was wide-eyed, unable to discern what was going on, and he was grappled by the tentacles, but he could move, and his heart was still lodged in his chest, which put him in a much better position than the Lord Mayor, who was getting even more frantic in his attempts to break free of the tentacles, and failing miserably.
Ebonheart walked forward, clearly displeased with the way of things. “This is too easy. These guards aren’t any real challenge. We should go ahead and find that gateway, and see if THEY can offer a real fight!”
Vestele’s Attack Roll (Maere): 1d20+18 = 28 (Touch) (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+4 = 9 (Piercing)
Frost: 1d6 = 4 (Cold)
Flaming: 1d6 = 5 (Fire)
No sooner had Ebonheart spoken, then the Lord Mayor finally collapsed, and the heart in Vestele’s hand stopped beating. As promised, I waved a hand and the tentacles disappeared, all at once. At the same time, Vestele threw her javelin, aiming for the leader of the thugs. The blow struck true, slipping through his armor as though it weren’t there, and the man’s eyes locked upon Vestele with wild, insane hatred burning bright.

Fartooth’s Attack Roll Maere: 1d20+25 = 42 (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+10 = 14 (Piercing)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll Maere: 1d20+25 = 33 (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+10 = 11 (Piercing)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll Maere: 1d20+20 = 36 (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+10 = 14 (Piercing)
Fartooth’s Attack Roll Maere: 1d20+15 = 17 (Miss)
Fartooth once again unleashed a flurry of shots, targeting the leader of the guards. Three of the four hastily fired shots hit him, causing his wild eyes to turn from fixating on the kobold. Despite changing targets of his wrath, his gaze never lost that fervor.
Siora’s Mass Whelm Damage: 10d6 = 34 (Nonlethal)
Maere’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+9 = 26 (Success)
EG1’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 25 (Success)
EG2’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 10 (Fail)
EG3’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 8 (Fail)
EG4’s Will Save (Mass Whelm): 1d20+7 = 11 (Fail)
Siora lobbed another spell at the mass of guards. A couple were staggered by it, but I could clearly see that the only thing it did to the leader was to make his attention lock on the beguiler. She shook her head. “Honestly, I can see where you’re coming from, Fartooth. But I’m sure we’ll have harder fights in the future, fights where the enemies are prepared to fight us.”
Lingering Acid Damage (EG4): 2d6 = 3 (Acid)
Melinda’s Attack Roll (Maere): 1d20+27 = 34 (Touch) (Hit)
Vitriolic Chain Damage: 10d6 = 34 (Acid)
Melinda’s Attack Roll (EG1): 1d20+27 = 38 (Touch) (Hit)
Vitriolic Chain Damage: 17 (Acid)
Melinda’s Attack Roll (EG2): 1d20+27 = 47 (Touch) (Crit Threat)
Confirm Crit: 1d20+27 = 32 (Touch) (Crit)
Vitriolic Chain Damage: 34 (Acid)
Melinda’s Attack Roll (EG3): 1d20+27 = 41 (Touch) (Hit)
Vitriolic Chain Damage: 17 (Acid)
Melinda’s Attack Roll (EG4): 1d20+27 = 41 (Touch) (Hit)
Vitriolic Chain Damage: 17 (Acid)
“She’s right, Fartooth,” I said, as I hurled a bolt of acid that hit the confused fighter in the chest, before chaining to strike the rest of the guards. “These fights seem easy, because we were able to deal a great deal of damage, very quickly. But there will come a time where Siora and Vestele will need to conserve their spells, or where my particular talents are less useful, and we are forced to rely on other tactics. I would be hamstrung if I were forced to fight a beholder, for instance.”
Maere’s attack roll (Melinda): 1d20+36 = 45 (Hit)
Damage: 2d8+17 = 24 (Slashing)
Iron Vulnerability: 1d6 = 3 (DR 15/Cold Iron)
Flaming: 1d6 = 1 (Fire)
Corrosive: 1d6 = 1 (Acid)
Vile: 1 Vile damage
Roaring in a rage, the fighter charged forward, holding up a massive blade, which looked big enough that an ogre could use it as a greatsword! And, worse, he managed to slip through my defenses, and cut me with the cursed blade. My magical skin helped, some, but it still hurt like hell. “Damn it all!”
Ebonheart’s Attack Roll (Maere): 1d20+29 = 47 (Hit)
Damage: 1d8+11 = 19 (Piercing)
Maere’s Will Save (Inflict Light Wounds): 1d20-1 = 12 (Fail)
Inflict Damage: 1d8+4 = 6 (Negative)
Ebonheart charged forward, and gored the fighter with his horn, which was now glowing with black spell-light. The fighter staggered back, bleeding from the wound, wild eyes focused on Ebonheart, but the unicorn just scoffed. “I’ve seen better fighters in goblin dens!”
Vestele’s Attack Roll (Maere): 1d20+14 = 32 (Touch) (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+4 = 5 (Piercing)
Frost: 1d6 = 6 (Cold)
Flaming: 1d6 = 6 (Fire) (Unconscious)
The javelin that she had thrown just moments before reappeared in Vestele’s hand, and once more she threw it at the fighter. The glowing point ignored his armor, piercing through the man’s flesh. For just a moment, his eyes fixated on the cleric, before they rolled back in his head, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
From there, it was a simple matter of slitting the throats of the helpless guards, and letting them bleed out. Soon enough, the only living things on the dock were us. Just as we had intended.

Re: (Union//Incarnation)
Two years ago, a meteor fell and decimated the southeastern lands of Gaia, turning them into wastelands constantly shrouded in white fog. None of those who saw the blazing calamity with their own eyes lived to tell the tale, and those who attempted to venture in never came back. Since then, towers, caverns, and ruins have appeared and disappeared without a pattern. Those who were brave enough to venture in were rewarded with a partner capable of defying the natural laws as humanity knows it. People started to call them ‘Incarnation’, and before long, more and more Incarnation were gathered and sold as commodity, especially after a billionaire has sponsored a fighting tournament offering cash prizes to those possessing the strongest Incarnation, spurring the greedy and desperate to hunt for the fabled creatures at the cost of their lives. Claire Saphira wanted none of that. She simply wished for a life where she could live without worry of her own survival. As she ran from the debt collectors for the umpteenth time, she was swallowed by an errant tower, where she saw a frail, pale-skinned girl with ashen hair hung by chains. It was a chance, a chance to participate in the tournament and live without worrying about survival. Yet, something nagged in the back of her mind. Why did she look so familiar? Planned release schedule: One chapter every day for Mon-Fri, and a break on Sat-Sun. The release will slow down at some point, but most likely won't go under 3 chapters a week.
