《Leveling up the World》64. The Village within the Village

An awakening area?
Dallion stepped back. The chief was still standing in front of him, eyes glaring with hatred. The village itself, though, had changed. The crumbling structures had not only miraculously repaired themselves, but had grown to the size of towers, drifting apart from one another.
You are in the land of DHERMA VILLAGE
Defeat the guardian to change the land’s destiny
The realm of the village? Dallion wondered.
He suspected that there might be an awakened area that encompassed the entire village, but he didn’t expect it to be like this. In many aspects the realm resembled the world. If Dallion didn’t know better, he’d think he was in some neighbouring province of the world. There were vast fields, forests, mountains, even a large lake visible. Interestingly, there also were a number of massive structures, ranging from small stone and wooden forts, to what could only be described as a palace several miles in the distance.
“You think you have the guts to challenge me?” the village chief asked. He had also changed slightly. A scabbard with a large sword was hanging from his waist, and—to Dallion’s horror—a double sized buckler was visible on his left arm. “It’s your funeral. I only wanted for you to know your place,” the man continued through clenched teeth. “All you had to do was to accept my authority and do as I asked, and you would have kept your powers. I would have even let you marry into the family, but no, you had to make a scene.”
“Marry into your family?” Dallion frowned. “Like my mother did?”
“She could have if she knew what was best.” Aspion narrowed his eyes. “But no, she had to be selfish to the end. Just like you. That’s the problem with your family—selfish every last one of you. And selfish people need to learn that the good of the many outweighs the good of the few.”

“Wow, that’s rich coming from you.” Dallion wanted to take out his dartbow and shoot the village chief on the spot, but managed to keep his calm. There would be time for that later. For the moment there was no point in showing his trump card until he saw what the old man had up his sleeve.
“Your grandfather said that once and look at him now. Do you see this?” The village chief opened his arms, as if showing the realm around him. “This is the village. My village.”
“Looks a little run down, if you ask me.”
As if on cue, a guttural roaring sound came from the nearby structure. Thanks to his perception, Dallion managed to catch a glance of a group of ink-like creatures hidden inside. The creatures were very much different from the beings that were in items, or even in the well. They looked more sophisticated, even if barely, equipped with rough loincloths and crude weapons. It was almost as if Dallion had stumbled on a lair of real-life goblins hiding in an abandoned building.
“It takes dedication to keep the village from crumbling,” Aspion ignored the creatures altogether. “Something you would have noticed if you had looked. Do you think that buildings remain upright on their own? Have you seen anyone repairing them?”
Actually, I have, Dallion thought.
There had been several instances when his father had to repair the roof on his own, after a particularly fierce storm. There had been no assistance from the elders or the Luor family, no awakening magic, just a lot of effort and elbow grease. Of course, as a result, part of the roof still leaked to this very day.
“I’m the one who maintains everything! I’m the one who keeps you all safe! I’m the one you should be thankful to.”

“Getting a bit upset there, old man,” Dallion smirked. Normally, he was against such behavior, but the village chief deserved it. “The only reason you’ve remained in power is thanks to your echoes. Without them and your family, you’re nothing.”
“Oh?” A wicked smile reappeared on Aspion’s face.
The moment he saw it, Dallion knew he was in trouble. He had tried to be too cool for his own good, and now there would be consequences. He could only hope that he would be stronger than them.
“You’re just a child.” Aspion laughed. “For a moment I was worried that you might actually cause trouble, but now I just realized. You know nothing!” He took a step back, then drew his sword. “You’ve no idea how I got to control the village, do you? You think the title was passed down just like that?”
The ground began to rumble, slightly at first, but with every moment it became more and more noticeable, as if an invisible giant was making his way towards Dallion.
“A village realm is different from a building realm. Yes, you’ve destroyed my echo, improved the well, and even gone up a level or two. You’re not in control of a realm, though. And do you know why?”
Dallion didn’t like the sound of that. Tense, he kept looking around for the source of the rumbling. His senses screamed that it had to be nearby, yet he still was unable to see it.
“In order to improve the wider realm, you must defeat all guardians in the area.” As Aspion spoke, the ground behind him began to rise. “The village has five guardians in total, each corresponding to a vital part. To gain control of the realm, though more is required. You need sacrifice, dedication, and the commitment that you’ll be here when the realm needs you.”
A few steps away, the ground had changed into a small hill. Massive arms of dirt emerged from both sides, giving the hill humanoid features.
Being an avid gamer, Dallion had heard that the hills have eyes, but in this realm, they also had arms, legs, and a massive spiked club as well.
“But most important of all.” The chief’s expression lost any trace of humor. From here on, he was about to take Dallion’s challenge seriously. “To gain control of a realm, you must defeat the key guardian and make him accept you as his master.”

Truck-kun Gets Sacrificed
Driscoll is my own version of a world with a game-like "system" of endless possibilities. MC has his own status, classes, skills, magic, and a living greatswordstaff in a world of monsters, demi-humans of all kinds, and even the supernatural. Sound good? Well, at first for Tru, it was a dream come true(I'm sorry). At least until reality hits him again and again. His quest from God is vague and must be discovered by him along the way. Hopefully, he can figure that out someday but for now, this new world's threats and his potential for power are motivation aplenty. With His new partner by his side, he's ready to embark on his mission of infinite sacrifice, however many lives it takes. The setting is pretty standard for fantasy, with my beginner attempts at writing. Litrpg elements are definitely involved here but It'll calm down as the story progresses and the world's foundation is laid. Judeo/Christian themes and principles take a major role and will be a backbone for much of the story. The fights will paint a picture in the mind rather than just be a bunch of number crunching. While he is meant to be a sacrifice to save all of Driscoll, he needs to gain enough power and influence to be a worthwhile sacrifice, or so he thinks. And so carnage will ensue as he avoids death as best he can while at the same time sacking himself for others. Truck Coon is your average determined, jiu-jitsu practitioner, tax associate that just started his new career. He dies to save kids from a semi-truck(Truck Coon got truck-kun'd, making him Truck-kun) and is transported to another world rather conventionally by God. Upon his arrival, he is quickly confronted with his first conflicts in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Chapters are currently between 2300 and 4000 words and I try to post weekly, but also deal with severe limitations that cause late posts often. I have zero actual experience with writing stories and only recently started reading web novels in 2020. If you end up hating it, let me know your thoughts in a detailed comment or review, especially if you love it though :D I want to get better and welcome the feedback, so expect changes to be made with any flaws that y'all point out which I don't already have plans to address in future chapters. That being said, keep it constructive in nature, please. I have no Idea how the formatting and such will go, so if you like or dislike some techniques I try, give me that well-appreciated feedback! Thank you for reading.

... And My Skillet
A long time ago, a child was born under the great blue sky. Many a Dwarf grumbled at the auspicious event, tugging furtively at their beards at this ill omen. A year later as the expedition had begun digging into the virgin hills of their new home, the grumbling of the doughty mountain people rose to a disbelieving furor when the yearling passed over the ritual offerings that would determine his lot in life. Instead, the as of yet unnamed child crawled over to a skillet fresh out of the fire and begun picking at the rock bread, unconcerned with the heat. Shouts turned into laughter, frowns lifted into craggy smiles. Upon placing a handful of the bread into his mouth, the infant’s face grew so grim and stony not even the eldest of the present Dwarves could match him. There was a durable ore within this babe, of that the Lore Keeper was sure. Yumly Ironhand was thus named, the beginning of his great tale immortalized on the rune walls of his clan’s history. “It’s pronounced Yoom Lee and no, rock bread isn’t a misnomer.”

Rekindle
My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.
