《System Only Gives Me Useless Gifts》110 - Petty

A few weeks after their discussion, Li Yun and Rouxi arrived at the Imperial City rail station. Li Yun had informed the Imperial Private Hospital that he had his own accommodations this time, and will arrive the following day to see Little Yan. However, not expect to see personal guide from the Xia family.
"Doctor Li, Ms. Guiying said to make your trip as comfortable as possible,” the guide bowed respectfully to Li Yun and then to Rouxi. “We have transportation ready for you outside.”
“Thank you for the offer, but I already a ride,” Li Yun turned down the offer.
“Not a problem Dr. Li, I’ll follow you from behind.”
The concierge service was a bit much.
"It's a little odd, if you're here to save a young scion of a wealthy family, shouldn't the family be escorting you themselves?" Rouxi asked.
Li Yun rolled his eyes. "Are you reading too many webnovels? People don't roll out carpets for surgeons when they fly around to operate."
“Are you telling me everything I’ve read is a lie?” Rouxi asked sarcastically.
Surgeon may be a well-respected profession, but it was a service-type career that the wealthy will still look down upon, especially in China. One would assume that a person who saved many lives would be better treated in some circles, but they weren't. The situation was worse for general and family practitioners.
The guide was a bit lost in between their conversation, but maintained a patient look. He looked at the person next to Li Yun, whom he assumed was the girlfriend. Since they were turning down the offer, there was nothing he could do.
"Let's take them on their offer," Rouxi suggested. She didn't feel like driving.
They followed the guide to a large luxury SUV, and he took them to their accommodation by the hospital. Li Yun greeted the other doctors who had also arrived. Only Doctor Mori was absent due to his surgery schedule.
"Professor Yuan Yu, Professor Shao Shan, Professor Ma Zong, and Dr. Chang?" Rouxi greeted them.
"Ah, you must be Ms. Song!" All the doctors followed Li Yun's ZZ Live, and were familiar with the voice behind the camera. They knew she worked part time at the clinic, but it was also easy to assume that they were dating.

The group chatted about Little Yan's conditions and potential impact of the TCM medicine. If the medicine could reduce the swelling and promote healing, it could potentially improve Little quality of life. Unfortunately, there were many things that needed to be discussed. There were twelve different ingredients in the medicine, but hundreds of different compounds. During the weeks after Li Yun had formulated the medicine, the Xia family had researchers comb through the potential side effects before offering it to Little Yan. Luckily, TCM prescription didn’t need to undergo a clinical testing process and the Xia family was experienced in the pharmaceutical field.
Midway through, Rouxi slipped out of the room to set up a scheduled broadcast for her show. When Li Yun returned to the room, she was at the tail end of the broadcast. He could tell because her makeup tutorial to look like one of the big name celebrities was completed.
Early the next morning, the doctors headed toward little Yan’s room for a physical exam. One of the nurses saw the entourage of doctors and she quickly texted her boss as instructed.
"Unbelievable, I can't believe they're even allowing a TCM doctor to treat her son," Xia Mixa sneered after receiving a message from the hospital.
She took a sip of her expensive tea from an open luxury manor in a gated community. Sitting a across from her was Xia Lihou, her husband.
Xia Lihou also thought his half-sister was a fool. She was already scammed before, so she obviously didn't know much about people. He still wondered why his grandpa continued to give her managing rights to their airline business. Although he took care of the pharmaceutical end, he was only the manager under his father.
"Let's go check it out," Xia Lihou decided.
He didn't care if his nephew died, but if he died, his half-sister might have another one, so it was better if the weak son survived. If her next son was someone stronger, he would have a harder time controlling the nephew in the future. There were billionaires in inheritance at stake, it wasn't something he could sit back and watch.

They arrived a bit later than usual, but it looked like Li Yun had already started acupuncture treatment after the initial dosage.
"The dosage seems effective, and I will monitor him for the next two days," they heard Li Yun explain. "If there are noticeable improvements, he will need to take the dosage for three months. I'll come again to check his status. By then, the artery should be able to back to normal."
"Thank you so much doctor!" Xia Guiying was ecstatic that her son will be cured soon.
"Don't thank me just yet," Li Yun cautioned. "This could last up to ten years. Nothing is guaranteed to last forever. But by that time, his heart should have matured enough to undergo surgery and technology would have improved. Just make sure to keep him healthy until then."
"I see that Little Yan is looking better," Xia Lihou commented as he and his wife Mixa walked into the room.
The couple greeted their father, Xia Hong, but ignored everyone else.
"Unusual for you to show up, don't you have work?" Xia Guiying jabbed.
Xia Lihou sneered in his heart, but he was used to her biting remarks. It was better to appear as a patient and wise man in front of his father, "I am more concerned about my nephew. I rushed over as soon as we heard that the doctor has a cure for little Yan's condition."
Xia Lihou was a bit surprised that the medicine seemed to have worked judging from little Yan's colored face. It had a brighter hue and complexion than before.
"Doctor Li, I believe this is an advance in medicine, are you interested in a partnership with Berne Pharmaceutical and cure others with similar ailments?" asked Xia Lihou.
Professor Yuan Yu had asked Li Yun earlier, and he had already declined. Although it was possible to alleviate, it was not possible to cure TA completely without Li Yun personally examining the individual. That was the downfall of TCM, it was very individualized.
"I already have a plan to distribute a modified version to alleviate inflammation," Li Yun replied. He didn't before, but after saying it out loud, it didn’t sound like a bad idea.
Starting a business had always been in the back of his mind. All he had to do was lease out a factory, hire workers, and distribute it. He wasn't interested in money, but having enough money would be able to fund his studies and complete whatever missions the system threw his way.
Xia Lihou wasn't happy with the response. He was providing this lowly doctor with an opportunity, and instead of taking the offer, he was planning some start-up. If this doctor thought it was easy to sell medicinal on the street without the backing from a large company, then he was sorely wrong. Berne Pharmaceutical had many contacts, and the new start-up company was just another small rivaling company, waiting to be either absorbed or destroyed.
"That's too bad, I hope Doctor Li will make it through the tough hurdle," Xia Lihou replied with a light-hearted laugh. "It's not an easy business."
"What a bastard, I wasn't even being rude," Li Yun thought, looking at Xia Lihou's fake expression. "Are rich people always so petty?"
The Xia Lihou couple left shortly after.
Li Yun remained with the doctors to explain to them the different ingredients and active chemical components, and how he was able to use each of their toxins to cancel each other, leaving certain compounds to fight off the inflammation, and promote the body to heal the affected area.
The doctors were all impressed. It would be difficult to replicate the formula and introduced it to another patient, but the method was impressive. Some of them had seen the process unfold via ZZ Live. It was not something they had the patience to achieve, spending almost four months on a formula that could only cure one person.
With the knowledge, they would be able to continue the treatment without Li Yun's presence.
