《The Faceless Minion》Chapter 33 - The Throat that I Long to Wet

THUD!

Pedestrians screamed and ran to the side as two massive feet landed on the road. Two large, long feet. A massive, several hundred pound body. Short green fur. Two long ears.

The Viridian Rabbit was on the move.

In her paws was a briefcase stuff full of banknotes, some falling out and floating on the wind. She pushed up into the air, leaping a full block at once.

“Ahahahaha! Catch me if you can! No Falcon’s catching this rabbit!”

Behind her a gust of cool wind blew through the streets, kicking up dust and the falling banknotes. With his cape spread wide, Icy Falcon soared through the air.

The Viridian Rabbit landed dead center in an intersection and took off to the right. Cars blared their horns as they swerved out of the way and tried to stop. Icy Falcon banked the turn and spoke into his earpiece.

“She’s heading to you, get ready.”

The Viridian Rabbit grinned as Icy Falcon turned the corner. She kicked a nearby fire hydrant, sending a spray of water into the air, then jumped onto a parked car, leaving two massive footprints in the metal hull. She then leapt with all her might…

Sideways into an alley.

She hid behind a dumpster, ears raised and at the ready. The edge of her mouth curled up.

Icy Falcon flew past, heading down the street.

“Hehehe, not much of hunter after all, were you Señor Falcon? I’m a little disappointed how easy that was.”

Suddenly Viridian Rabbit felt a chill down her spine. Where was this ominous premonition coming from.

Wait, no that chill was actually on her spine!

She whipped her head around. Behind her stood the Icy Swallow, a big grin on her face and arms stretched out. Ice already began to grow on the rabbit’s back.

“Hehehe, not much of an escape after all, eh Viridian Rabbit.”

“Like heck!”

Viridian Rabbit leapt with all her might. The ice slowed her down so she didn’t even clear the alley, but she managed to get out of range of the blue dressed girl.

“Remember this as the day you almost caught the Viridian Rabbit!”

She turned forward to run out of the alley.

And ran headlong into a wall of ice.

Icy Falcon landed on top of the wall.

“Remember this as the day you almost escaped.”

A few minutes later the authorities were packing the Viridian Rabbit into a large truck. Icy Falcon frowned.

The fifth public attack by a super within a week? And all the short-sighted kind, the ones that just ran out and rampaged with no minions and little plan. Something was up, there shouldn’t be this many small timers in such a small area and short time period. But what could it be?

“We did it, Icy Falcon, sir!”

The Icy Swallow ran up to him, stars in her eyes. Icy Falcon almost felt the edge of his mouth curl before he shook his head and frowned. Enthusiasm was dangerous.

“Good work, kid. Go home and get some rest for now.”

But life would teach her that soon enough. And it was true, she was doing good work. She didn’t need him to damper her spirits just yet.

"Are you sure? Weren't we going to patrol the next neighborhood?"

"It's fine, your friend is starting a job soon right? You should spend some time with him while you both still can."

She bit her lip and hung her head. Icy Falcon pat her shoulder.

"Go on. There's always more work, there's not always time for friends."

Icy Swallow slowly nodded her head.

“Um, ok, thank you, Icy Falcon, sir. I’ll see you again soon!”

Icy Falcon let out a sigh as she ran off.

Kids like her shouldn't be fighting crime, she should be off having fun.

For as long as she still had people to have fun with.

Agents Wilson and Steve stepped into the crowded DEA office. Agents were walking back and forth, speaking on phones, or working at desks covered in stacks of paper. The two BSI agents looked at each, shrugged, and walked towards a door that seemed important.

A few knocks later and they were ushered inside.

“Agent Wilson, and this is Agent Steve, BSI.”

The man at the desk stood up and shook their hands.

“Nathan, head of this bureau. Go ahead and take seat”

He heaved a sigh as he sat back down. Steve spoke first.

“Why the long face?”

“Pardon me but when I asked DC for backup, I was hoping to get some.”

“Ouch.”

Wilson shrugged.

“You could always call the ILS.”

Nathan grimaced.

“If it were up to me I would’ve.”

“Then why didn’t you?”

Nathan heaved another sigh.

“Honestly neither Mexico City or DC wants either of these solved.”

“Well, we suspected as much when they called us, but that bad huh?”

Nathan handed them one file.

“As far as the Federales are concerned, a killer targeting cartel guys might as well be an angel from above. They’ve been…less than enthusiastic in their investigations.”

Steve gave a shrug.

“Might have a point, you have a different take?”

Nathan grimaced again.

“Whoever it is is a dangerous new player. What happens if they succeed? Will they stop at cartel guys? And the cartels aren’t going to just lay down and die either. I think however this goes down, we’re going to end up with something far worse.”

The two BSI agents rubbed their chins and then slowly nodded.

“Makes sense, heard there are some new drugs as well?”

Nathan nodded and handed them a second file.

“We’re still not sure about this…but if we’re right…”

He took a deep breath.

“There’s something out there that can mutate people. Turn them into monsters.”

Steve raised an eyebrow.

“Really? Sounds like a fairy tale to me. Some politician trying to cover up some villain friends maybe?”

Nathan nodded.

“We thought so too, but super attacks are on the rise here. New guys with no record or history. And a similar one just occurred in Miami, known cartel associates were involved.”

Steve frowned.

“If that’s true then where’s the ILS? Shouldn’t there be some sort of super-DEA task force by now?”

Wilson shrugged.

“That one’s easy. If there is a drug that can turn people into freaks, the last thing anyone in charge wants is for the ILS to get it.”

Nathan nodded again.

“Neither Mexico City nor DC has been…helpful regarding this case. And there’s a cartel they’ve been obstructing for, even more than normal. Which makes me think this is more than the usual corruption.”

He stared the two BSI agents in the eye.

“And now that you’ve arrived, I’m almost certain something’s up.”

“Again, ouch.”

“Fair enough.”

Nathan sighed.

“Well, we’re not going to get anywhere talking conspiracies. As long as you boys are here, might as well take a look. We’ll get you some desks and whatever we managed to scrounge on this. Either of you speak Spanish?”

“Wilson, you were stationed abroad right?”

“In Eastern Europe.”

“Let me know whenever you’re going out, I’ll try to get you a translator if I can.”

The BSI agents nodded and stood up. Steven turned to Wilson as they exited the office.

“You want the super serial killer, or the magic drugs?”

“I’ll take the super.”

Steven raised an eyebrow.

“Really? The CIA didn’t ask you to cut them in on the goods?”

“You think they’d wait for me to get here?”

“Ah, right.”

Wilson shook his head.

“No it’s just…”

He opened up the killer file and took out a picture of one of the victims.

“...there’s something familiar about this.”

Icy Falcon and Icy Swallow stood on a rooftop, surveying a busy street below.

“Um, Icy Falcon, sir, what are we here for? I don’t see any supers anywhere near here. Everything seems normal.”

Icy Falcon shrugged.

“That’s a good thing, kid. ILS got a tip that a super attack might happen here. If we managed to arrive early we can stop it before there’s much damage.”

“What if nothing happens?”

“Even better.”

Icy Swallow frowned as she continued to survey the street.

“I don’t see anything, other than a couple junkies in that alley over there.”

Icy Falcon’s eyes narrowed.

“Which alley?”

“Oh, that one over there, by the bank.”

Icy Falcon took a look. A couple of figures in the alley, small lights popping up near their faces. Nothing out of the ordinary…

Icy Falcon focused in.

One of the guys was twitching. He fell to the ground.

“Um, should we go help that guy? I think he’s having a seizure!”

Icy Falcon held up his arm in front of Icy Swallow.

“Stay here. I’ll check it out.”

Icy Falcon spread his cape and flew over to the building near the alley. He peered over the edge. As the girl had thought, the man was frothing at the mouth and convulsing. He frowned and pulled out his phone. He was no medic.

And then the man’s shoulder began to bulge.

And grow.

And then his other.

Soon all his muscles were pulsing, bulging up and then shrinking down, over and over. The man got on all fours, and then stood to his feet. He threw his head and arms back, shouting into the sky. His shirt began to rip apart. The other people in the alley began to back away, one falling onto his bottom.

The man let out a massive roar. His arms gave a final pulse and then began expanding and extending, taking on a red tone.

And a pincer-like shape.

The man’s torso followed. Soon his entire body was covered in red chitin, ending in two huge pincers. Even his head changed, gaining a chitin helmet and eyes extending upon stalks. The man turned his head to his right arm, clacking the pincer there, and then to his left, clacking again. Soon he began to laugh.

“Red Lobster? The Mighty Crab? Captain Pincer-hand? Ah whatever, I’ll figure it out later.”

He turned to the wall of the bank beside him. He made a grin.

“First I got a withdrawal to make.”
