《The Faceless Minion》Chapter 25 - Showdown! Aurora Legion vs. The Boss!

Aurora Legion walked into a large throne room filled with all sorts of cameras and recording equipment. A massive circular formation was carved into the floor, surrounded by skull torches shining with eerie light. Above the circle hung a metal cylinder with a colored bar. The bar was about a third filled, colored red and orange. And at the end of the room, sitting on the throne of bones…
The Necrosaurus rose to his feet. Aurora Legion took up formation and cautiously approached. Pink Star’s gauntlets began to glow, Voidspeaker began to chant under his breath.
“All you homo sapiens of the world, heed me and despair! You who have grown drunk on the blood of the dinosaurs shall now drown in it! Watch now, the fate of your so-called heroes and learn what it means to defy me.”
Aurora Legion stared at him with narrowed eyes.
“Technically it’s not dinosaur blood. Mostly algae and plants, so not blood at all really.”
“Wait, bro, it’s not?!”
“Yea! I heard that too! I learned about it in a documentary!”
“Wait, Pink, you knew that too?!”
“See sir, I told you!”
The Necrosaurus scowled.
“Shut up, Carl! I told you not to talk while we’re recording! See, look, now you’re going to have to edit!”
“Uh sir, we’re live now.”
“Wait what?”
“I thought you would want it live since it’s a battle and all.”
“CARL! You need to warn me of these things! We’re going to have a nice long chat when we’re done here.”
Chronolock just groaned and held her head.
“This idiot is about to conquer the world.”
“Hah, whatever, we’re improvising now. Welcome, ‘Aurora Legion’, to the Jurassic Cemetery. Now DIE!”
The Necrosaurus thrust out his free hand, a circle of ghastly purple light appeared on the floor. The amber at the tip of his staff pulsed with orange light, and a pack of zombie raptors rose from the floor.
“Let’s go, Aurora Legion!”
Voidspeaker thrust his hands forward.
“Experience nothingness!”
The black beam swept across the raptors.
And nothing happened.
The Necrosaurus chuckled.
“Foolish little cultist, did you think I wasn’t watching you drain my minions time after time? I’ve made some special adjustments just for you!”
Wonder Knight began running forward.
“Pink!”

Pink Star lifted her hands.
“Tyrannosaurus Rex, I chose you!”
A pink Tyrannosaurus formed into being and shook the hall with a mighty roar. The Necrosaurus frowned.
“Now that’s just not fair. Do you know how long I had to work to figure out how to raise dinosaurs? All the bones have been turned into minerals and don’t even respond to necromancy any more! I had to learn how to transmute organic compounds and locate a source of well-preserved genetic material before I could even START learning how! And now you just wave your magic hands around and suddenly dinosaurs? Seriously! Life is just not fair.”
The Pink Tyrannosaurus thundered forth, grabbing one of the raptors in its jaws. The other raptors surrounded the beast and started to harass its flanks.
The Necrosaurus ducked as a black beam flew past his head.
“Ah, can’t drain my minions so you’re aiming for me now? Smart. How to fight a necromancer 101 in fact.”
His mouth curled into a sneer.
“It’s too bad you’re weak!”
The Necrosaurus thrust his staff forward. Sharp bones formed in the air and shot towards Voidspeaker. Voidspeaker dropped his chant and hit the ground to avoid the spikes. The Necrosaurus whirled around himself, a wall of spikes emerging from the ground. Chronolock leapt back with a grunt while Wonder Knight crossed his arms in front of him.
“GAH!”
The spikes pierced his arms, blood dripping from the wounds.
“Wonder!”
“Heh, I would figure you would’ve known given you got a cultist friend and all. Those aren’t regular bones, they’re magic bones. You can’t just block them with your hands. Here, try it now.”
The Necrosaurus filled the air with spikes and sent them flying at Wonder Knight. A pink Tyrannosaurus leapt in front of him, roaring as it was filled with spikes and then dissipated into sparks.
He shook his head, clicking his tongue.
“That was a mistake, little summoner. You should’ve gone for me while I was aiming elsewhere.”
The Necrosaurus pointed his staff at Pink. Purple magic circles formed on the ground, surrounding her with zombie raptors.
“Because now I will never allow you another summon.”
Pink ducked and weaved as the raptors pounced and bit at her. She managed to dodge the teeth and claws.
But her gauntlets remained dull.

The Necrosaurus turned his attention back to Wonder Knight but then his shoulder snapped back. He turned his head. His staff was vibrating in the air, refusing to move. He looked down. Chronolock had crawled forward and was gripping his staff.
“Ah, the little chronomancer! Honestly you are the biggest threat. Not much one can do against someone who rips apart the space-time continuum.”
He sneered at her.
“But my staff is just an aid. Every decent magician has a backup plan.”
He raised his hand. Bone spikes formed in the air. Chronolock’s eyes widened and she rolled to the side, letting go of the staff. She cried out as a spike grazed her thigh.
“EXPERIENCE NOTHINGNESS!”
The Necrosaurus halted a step as a massive black beam struck his chest, causing the room to dim. Voidspeaker floated in the air, winds kicking up his robes around him as he glowed with blackish-purple light. His eyes seemed to burn with power, trails of purple fire coming from the pure black orbs.
“Not bad little cultist, not bad at all. There’s just one problem.”
The Necrosaurus pointed his staff at the boy.
“Like I said, YOU’RE WEAK!”
A flaming skull flew from the staff and exploded in the air, sending Voidspeaker to the ground, trails of smoke coming from his robes.
Voidspeaker slowly turned his head up as the Necrosaurus walked over to him and pointed the staff at his head.
“Word of advice, from one explorer of the dark arts to another. Spend more time studying, less time playing around. Friends are a weakness.”
Voidspeaker grinned.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, bro.”
The Necrosaurus turned around.
Wonder Knight flew through the sky, arm pulled back.
And slammed his fist straight into the metal cylinder.
Black liquid flooded the room.
Londyn breathed heavily. Her arms trembled. She tried to lift her grav-cannon but her arms refused to move. So she knelt down on one knee, using the ground to prop the cannon up and aim it forward.
One final grav-bomb roared through the air.
A sauropod screamed and fell over, a massive hole in its torso.
It was the last one.
Londyn let the cannon fall to the ground. She took a few deep breaths, and then lifted her head.
All around her heroes panted, crouched over on their knees or lying on the ground.
And not a single dinosaur stirred.
They made it.
They won.
Londyn’s mouth curled into a grin. She felt a cheer welling up inside her stomach.
Then she heard a crash.
She looked up into the air. A pink Quetzalcoatlus flew from the tallest spire of the castle. After a few minutes of flight it landed in front of her, and then vanished.
“Aurora? What happened? Where’s Dragon and Gloom?”
The teens sat on the ground, coated in black oil. Voidspeaker took a deep breath.
“We couldn’t stop him, he’s too powerful, but I think we got his crucible. Should put a stop to his rituals. If we all work together, we should be able to…”
The ground began to tremble. They heard the sound of stone cracking. The top of the castle began to crumble.
A roar pierced the heavens.
The roof of the castle crumbled as something grew from within it. Taller than the castle itself, wings that stretched out and blocked the sky. Fierce teeth larger than a man, sharp claws that could spear a whale. Rotting, scaly skin. Large curling horns.
A zombie dragon, the size of a mountain.
It unfurled itself, rising to its full height and spreading out its wings. The dragon threw its head back.
And then it split the sky.
Everyone grabbed their ears and cried out as the mighty roar assaulted them. A beam of purple light shot into the heavens.
For a terrible minute, the Earth trembled.
The dragon finally closed its mouth and looked down upon the scattered heroes. On its nose stood the Necrosaurus.
“Now you understand the true meaning of the name, Necrosaurus! Behold, my greatest creation! My life’s work! Be honored, mighty heroes of Earth! For your deaths shall usher in a new era! For this is the Jurassic Cemetery where the Necrosaurus reigns eternal!”
He sneered at them.
“And once you are gone, the world shall bow before me! And all will know that I! AM! SUPREME!”
The heroes of Earth froze and shivered.
Agent Tina reloaded her guns without a word.
The Icy Falcon frowned and hung his head.
Captain Hot Devil slowly raised his fists, breathing deeply.
Londyn grimaced.
This was not going to go well.
