《Arranged Love (Currently Being Edited)》Chapter 11 - The Wedding Night

Eva giggled as she walked behind Paulo, down the long endless hallway towards their hotel room, reaching down and pulling the heels off her aching feet from dancing for hours. Paulo was actually a really good dancer and she had such a good time dancing with him that she never wanted to stop. She looked over at Paulo and he looked so handsome with his hair ruffled up, his suit jacket and tie off and the top buttons of his white shirt undone.
"What?" he asked, looking over at her.
She giggled again and looked down at her feet with a smile.
"You know earlier on the dance floor when you wanted to know what I was thinking?" she asked, with a hiccup.
"Yeah."
"I was just looking at you and thinking, damn my husband's really hot," she laughed.
That made him roll his eyes and he laughed. "Wow. You really have had too much to drink," he said, gesturing at the half empty wine bottle in her hand.
"Or maybe you just haven't had enough," she said, holding it out to him.
He took the bottle from her hand and took a drink from it before handing it back to her, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
When they got to their room, Paulo scanned the key card and pressed the handle to open the door of the Honeymoon Suite. It was the nicest hotel room Eva had ever seen, with a crystal chandelier over shiny marble flooring in the entryway with two curved staircases leading up to the second floor. The sitting area to their left had tall cathedral ceilings and floor to ceiling windows that had a view of the skyscrapers below.
She almost lost her balance as she kicked her heels off and she started to laugh so hard she almost fell on the floor.
He grabbed around her waist and helped her sit down on the bed, before reaching down and slipping her shoes off.
She gave him a warm smile when their eyes met and she said, "Thank you" softly.
"You're welcome.
"Paulo, I ummm," she said, taking a breath in. "I need help getting out of this dress. There's about a hundred buttons in the back to undo," she laughed as she stood up and turned her back to him.

"Okay," he said, stepping closer and she could smell his masculine cologne as his hands gently pulled at each button, his fingers grazing across her skin and making it tingle. Her heart started beating a little faster and her face felt flushed as he got towards the bottom buttons. Then she felt him unhook the back of her strapless bra and that gave her butterflies and she couldn't help but smile, looking down and biting her bottom lip.
"I'm done," he said softly.
She held the front of the dress up with one hand to keep her boobs covered as she turned around to face him, saying "Thank you." Then she stood there looking at him and there was an awkward silence between them for a few seconds.
"I ummmm. I need to freshen up first before we," she hesitated, embarrassed that she couldn't even say it. "Before we .... you know.," she laughed again. "I'll be back," she told him, grabbing her clothes and shower bag out of her suitcase before heading into the bathroom.
As she went to close the door she saw him throw his suit jacket and tie onto the couch and let out an exhale as he collapsed down onto the bed. She closed the door and then pressed her back to it, catching her breath with her heart beating against her chest. They may not have slept together yet but feeling his light touch on her skin as he unbuttoned her dress was enough to make her almost feel like they had. It was such an intimate moment that she felt tingly all over.
She got the flowers and pins out of her hair and washed her thick makeup off before jumping in the shower, making the water so hot that steam filled the little bathroom and fogged up the mirror instantly. She washed the hair spray out of her hair and conditioned it before shaving her legs and armpits again. She wasn't high maintenance but body hair had always been a pet peeve of hers and she couldn't stand the feeling of stubble. She shaved religiously every day just to make sure she stayed smooth.
When she got out she smoothed a coconut lime verbena lotion all over her body before putting on the long white silk spaghetti strap nightgown she had bought for their wedding night. She used a moisturizer on her face and a leave in conditioner that she brushed through her long brown hair. She let out an exhale and felt so much more relaxed. Getting cleaned up made her feel refreshed and she walked out of the bathroom to see Paulo laying on his stomach, face down on the bed wearing only a pair of boxer briefs, the rippling muscles of his bare back on full display.

She could hear him breathing heavily and as she got closer she realized he was fast asleep and her heart dropped. This isn't what she pictured their wedding night being like at all. Even though she had been nervous about it, she had expected them to consummate their marriage but apparently she had been too slow and took too long in the bathroom.
"Paulo," she whispered, stepping closer and shaking his shoulder slightly but he didn't wake up so she let out an exhale and gave up.
The room was still kind of spinning so she walked back in the bathroom and drank a big glass of water and took a couple of Tylenol, before brushing her teeth and her hair again.
She put her things away in her suitcase before slowly crawling into bed beside him getting under the sheets, and then laying there and staring up at the ceiling. She could hear him breathing beside her and it felt so weird to be sharing a bed with a man she just met the day before.
She rolled up on her side facing him and looked over at his sleeping face, studying it. She wondered what things would be like with Paulo tomorrow and the next day and the next day after that. Was there any chance she could ever fall in love with her new husband? Would he even give her the chance to?
The next morning Eva woke up with a horrible splitting headache. She groaned as she struggled to open her eyes, blinking against the bright sunlight streaming in through the window that she was trying to block with her hand. She looked around and it took her brain a second to remember that she was here in a hotel room and she looked over and saw Paulo still sound asleep, laying next to her in bed, wearing just his boxer briefs. Sometime during the night he had kicked the sheets off.
She slowly got out of bed and made her way into the bathroom. As she stood at the sink brushing her teeth she remembered that she was moving to Spain today with Paulo and the sadness started to settle in when she thought about leaving Kristoff and Astrid behind. She couldn't imagine what life was going to be like without them.
All of a sudden she was hit with an overwhelming urge to throw up and she clasped her hands over her mouth and ran to the toilet, lifting the seat up just in time. Her whole body heaved as she emptied the entire contents of her stomach into the water.
Just when she thought she was done another wave came on worse than the last and she wasn't even sure how her stomach could hold that much. It felt like she was dying a slow, horrible death and after thirty minutes of agony she vowed never to drink that much again in her entire life.
She could just hear Paulo's voice right now. "I told you to go slow because those drinks are strong." She really wished she would've listened to him.
When the nausea finally went away she struggled to get up on her wobbly legs, brushed her teeth again with toothpaste, brushed her hair and decided that she looked much better, before opening the door and going back out to the hotel room. Paulo was awake now, sitting up in bed shirtless, ordering room service on the hotel phone with his six pack and strong arm muscles on full display, his bottom half covered by the sheet.
He looked and sounded normal as he was placing his order, with no signs of a hangover at all, which she thought was totally unfair because he drank just as much as she did. She walked over to her suitcase and grabbed one of her favorite dresses and everything she needed to get ready and when she turned around, she noticed that he was watching her and that made her insides flutter and a small smile appeared on her face.
"We need to talk about what happened last night," Paulo said, clearing his throat. "Or more accurately, what didn't happen."

First Draft
Taking care of someone was hard. Harder still when the only job you can find is a graveyard shift at your brother's school, which is apparently haunted by a man claiming to be the devil. My life as a janitor is a simple one, and that clingy asshole won't leave me alone, so forgive me if I don't put enough gravitas into the situation. The gang activity is enough, why do we need to have an all-out war on school grounds? That will be too much for me to clean as a poor, lonely graveyard janitor.
